BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Get your swords ready, citizens of Westeros: “House of the Dragon” will return for Season 2 this June on HBO. The new release date info was announced by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and president of global streaming and games JB Perrette. Previously, HBO had only said that Season 2 would debut sometime this summer. A spinoff of the mega-hit “Game of Thrones”, House of the Dragon takes place about 200 years earlier, tracing the conflicts that plague the ruling Targaryen dynasty.

★ Kate Middleton is expected to make her official return to royal duties at the Trooping the Colour parade this spring, after recovering from her mysterious abdominal surgery. The Princess of Wales is due to attend the event, which celebrates the official birthday of King Charles III, on Horse Guards Parade in London on June 8, the Ministry of Defence said on its website yesterday. However, a royal source noted to press that the palace typically announces who will attend the event, and that officials were “not consulted” on the update by the Ministry of Defence.
-PageSix
★ Jamie Foxx will return to host the 7th season of “Beat Shazam,” after his hospitalization prompted him to step down during Season 6. Foxx is set to come back to the Fox music game show as both host and EP alongside his daughter, Corinne Foxx, who will return as cohost and DJ. After hosting the show for its first five episodes, Foxx took a step back from the series after suffering an undisclosed medical crisis last April. As he recovered, Nick Cannon stepped in as guest host, and Kelly Osbourne filled in as guest DJ.

★ Like the end of a slo-mo music montage on the beach, the “Baywatch” reboot has found a home: Fox has announced that it is developing a new version of the classic ’90s beach romp that starred David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson. In the new iteration, “Daring ocean rescues, pristine beaches, and iconic red bathing suits are back, along with a whole new generation of Baywatch lifeguards, who navigate complicated, messy personal lives in this action-packed reboot”, says the project’s official description.

★ “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and “Vanderpump Rules” star and executive producer Lisa Vanderpump is bringing her restaurant expertise to Season 2 of Fox’s competition series “Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars”. She’ll face off against her longtime friend Ramsay as they each select food and beverage industry entrepreneurs to join their teams. Season 2 of Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars premieres May 22.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Pitbull – His new song ‘Powerful Women’ fittingly features a sample from country powerhouse Dolly Parton. The tune uses a bit from Parton’s ‘9 to 5’, which Pitbull raps over, honoring single moms, working women and other strong ladies. In honor of the collab, the 2 met up in Nashville, and Pitbull shared a photo of their meeting on X over the weekend. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3u87cnku
• Taylor Swift — Disney+ has dropped the trailer for “Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)”, the streaming version of the concert film – with bonus material. While the it was known that the expanded version, which debuts March 14, would include the song ‘Cardigan’ and 4 acoustic songs, the new trailer reveals it will also include one of Swift’s “favorites”: ‘Maroon’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ynme9vez
• Barenaked Ladies – Canadians are reacting after 21-year-old Jeremy Keyton shared his version of 1992’s ‘If I Had a Million Dollars’ on TikTok – with lyrics updated to reflect the current cost of living. He changed the group’s song to ‘If I Had $10,000,000’. Sample lyrics: ““If I had ten million dollars, I could maybe buy you a house/If I had ten million dollars, I’d be middle class.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2c4cxyk7
• Disturbed – has scored its 19th #1 on the Active Rock radio chart with ‘Don’t Tell Me’, their latest single, which features Ann Wilson of Heart. The song is also Disturbed’s 4th #1 off the band’s “Divisive” album.
• AC/DC – ‘Thunderstruck’ is currently at #1 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. In addition, the resurgent 1990 hit is at #5 on the Hard Rock Streaming chart, and #11 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart. There is no obvious reason for the song’s resurgent popularity, other than…well, it’s awesome.
• Morgan Wallen — has surprised-dropped the 7-video YouTube series “Abbey Road Sessions”. The collection consists of in-studio performances he recorded while in London. Among the videos are the unreleased new song ‘Lies Lies Lies’ and a cover of rock band Nothing But Thieves’ ‘Graveyard Whistling’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/fay9mur4
• Justin Moore and Randy Houser — are hitting the road together on “The Country Round Here Tonight Tour”. The first show is Sept. 5 in Charlotte NC, with stops in Georgia, New Jersey, Texas and more, before wrapping up in St. Louis on Oct. 12. Tickets go on sale Friday.
• Lonestar – The country vets have shared their new rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘You Make Loving Fun’,” the 1977 hit from the “Rumors” album that was written and sung by Christine McVie. Mick Fleetwood raved about the new version, writing: “Always a compliment to hear…our songs! Christine will be smiling!” Lonestar’s version will appear on the EP “Iconic, Vol. 1”, out this spring. SHOOTING THE BULL

DARK SIDE OF THE ECLIPSE:
If you’re looking to travel somewhere to witness the first total eclipse in North America since 2017, your chance to do it on the cheap may already have…well…eclipsed. On Monday, April 8, the “zone of totality,” where you can see the sun vanish completely, goes from Mexico’s Pacific coast on a north-easterly path through Texas, and on up into Indiana, Ohio, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, also passing through Ontario and Canada’s eastern provinces. The whole thing takes 2½ hours, but the actual time when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, turning day into darkness, lasts just under 4 minutes. But getting accommodation in any of the prime viewing areas will cost you. For example: In Killeen, Texas, Fairfield Inn by Marriott is offering rooms for $809 on April 8. A week later, the rooms go for $103. Cape Girardeau, Missouri, has a one-bedroom Airbnb available for $1,350. In Cleveland, all hotel rooms are booked, but a one-bedroom apartment is listed for $3,500 – for just one night. You get the idea. Airfares are also up as much as 80% for a chance to see the eclipse, and Delta is charging $749 for a flight from Austin, TX, to Detroit, that is designed for in-air eclipsing – but the airline claims no responsibility for weather or take-off delay.
(No problem. Because I had no intention of paying a fortune to take my kids to look at something they aren’t supposed to look at!)
(These people do realize they are spending a ton of money in order to see total darkness, right?)

SNOOZE NEWS:
Do you have a hard time falling asleep sometimes? You’re not alone – but this might help: Try doing the exact opposite of what you’re probably been doing. According to a TikTok trend, you should try NOT to sleep. Maybe even try keeping your eyes open. This counterintuitive technique is known as “paradoxical intention”, and while it might be new to TikTok, it’s a tested method supported by science, that is used to battle a bunch of phobias and anxiety. It boils down to this when it comes to trying to sleep: “You should try to remain awake” even “during the night when you wake up,” says Colin Espie, a professor of sleep medicine at University of Oxford. This “reverse intention” may help you conquer the “involuntary process” of falling asleep. More tips include going to bed when you’re sleepy (and not before), and instead of closing your eyes, keep them open. You should notice that eventually, this becomes harder and harder, and instead of battling yourself to get to sleep, suddenly you’re fighting to keep your eyes open. (…and about 5 minutes later, you’ll have to pee!)
(So, fighting to keep your eyes open causes you to fall asleep? I’ve just come to a whole new realization of what happens to me in church!)

PARENTS BEHAVING BADLY:
This may not come as a surprise to you, but researchers have determined that when it comes to sports, when parents behave badly, their kids do, too. Scientists at the University of South Australia say that moms and the dads cheering on their kids from the sidelines need to be mindful of their own behavior. Comparing their findings to the old saying “monkey see, monkey do,” study authors found that when parents behaved well at their kids’ youth sport activities, by doing things like applauding good play, encouraging players, and enjoying the game, their children were more likely to display similarly positive behavior. On the other hand, you guessed it, if a parent behaved poorly, by being overly critical, second guessing the referee, and yelling, it correlated with greater antisocial behavior among their kids. The researchers pointed out that children look to their parents to learn about acceptable behavior. Their suggestions for parents include:
• Being a positive role model for kids
• Avoid shouting instructions
• Keeping comments about all children positive
• Prioritizing fun
(Also a good idea: No betting on games!)
(…and keeping my mother-in-law away from all kids’ sporting events!)

BS CHRONOMETER 03.06.24

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
“Discover What Your Name Means Day”, a part of “Celebrate Your Name Week”, it’s a day to learn what your name and the names of others mean. The day can also be used to give your name its own meaning—one that reflects who you are. (I think my neighbors already did!)
• “Dentist’s Day”, honoring the professionals who help us maintain a big, toothy smile … for a big fee. Dentistry is consistently ranked among the businesses with the highest profit margins. We think it has something to do with a secret kick-back deal with the Tooth Fairy. (You know the drill…)
• “Frozen Food Day”, commemorating the first ‘Individually Packaged Frozen Foods’, created by Clarence Birdseye in Springfield, Massachusetts 93 years ago (1930). He got the idea after seeing Canadians thawing and eating naturally frozen fish.
• “Oreo Cookie Day”, honoring the taste treat many of us deconstruct before eating. The first Oreos went on sale on this date in 1912. More than 500 billion have been sold since. Some think the name comes from a combination of taking the ‘re’ from ‘creme’ and placing it between the two ‘o’s in ‘chocolate’, – making ‘o-re-o’.
• “Stop Bad Service Day”. The first step is to stand up and say something when customer service is bad. But do it in a constructive way to try to help them improve, not to anger them. (And good luck with that!)
• “Day of the Dude”, promoting the philosophy & lifestyle inspired by fictional character ‘Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski’, as portrayed by Jeff Bridges in the 1998 film “The Big Lebowski”. Many consider ‘Dudeism’, a modern form of Chinese Taoism, as a mock religion. LINK: http://dudeism.com
• Alamo Day, on the anniversary of the final day of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. During the key conflict in Texas’ battle with Mexican forces at San Jacinto, troops shouted “Remember the Alamo,” and with their victory, Texas independence was assured.
