BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The British Army’s website quietly removed Kate Middleton’s name from the list of attendees for the Colonel’s Review, after it was speculated that the event would be one of her first appearances since her abdominal surgery. That happened after her office at Kensington Palace said they hadn’t been consulted. It had been reported that the Princess of Wales would be appearing at the pre-Trooping the Colour event on June 8. Trooping the Colour is a batch of ceremonial events that celebrate the birthday of King Charles III. Middleton has been in attendance for all of the events since she married Prince William in 2011.

★ “American Idol” honcho Nigel Lythgoe has been accused of another alleged sexual assault. According to legal documents, the woman — identified as Jane Doe — claims the television exec forced himself on her and pinned her against a wall. She says she was close with Lythgoe professionally, and the incident happened in 2018 during a meeting at his home. The documents also reveal Lythgoe is denying allegations of sexual assault by former host Paula Abdul, saying she is a “pathological liar.” As reported by The Blast, Lythgoe says that Abdul has “a long history of telling wild stories that are untethered from reality and are primarily designed to attract attention.”

★ Sinbad is thanking “fans and friends” for their enduring support following his first major appearance in more than 3 years. The 67-year-old comedian suffered a stroke in 2020 — and with the exception of a pic shared to his Instagram in 2022, had not been seen in public until last Thursday. He joined the cast of the “A Different World” (via Zoom) as part of an HBCU tour event at an Atlanta college. In a new video released to Instagram, Sinbad acknowledged the “rough” journey he’s faced on the road to recovery, thanked his supporters, and told fans to “Expect to see more of me soon.”

★ Chalk up one more thing that Kate Hudson can do. For decades, the actress/business & fitness mogul has delighted audiences with a variety of projects — and her latest turn is singer/songwriter. The “Almost Famous” star recently shared a new single ‘Talk About Love’, and now she has dropped a music video to go with it. The song was co-written Hudson, Songwriters Hall of Famer Linda Perry, and singer/songwriter Danny Fujikawa (who happens to be Hudson’s fiancé). Hudson compares her debut single to “the rock, the pop, the dance music and even a bit of the alternative records I love.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/23d4ty8s

Maybe later, when I’m a 60-year-old lady with nothing to do…” Her new song ‘Deeper Well’ contains the lyrics: “So I’m gettin’ rid of the habits that I feel/Are real good at wastin’ my time.”
SHOOTING THE BULL
STRESS DISTRESS:
You know how it is when you have a really busy day, and nothing seems to go right? And you swear you can feel your hair turning grey? Well, scientists at North Carolina State University say younger adults really can look and feel older on especially stressful days. Study authors collected data from 107 people between the ages of 18-36. The key finding was that “on days when study participants reported experiencing higher levels of stress than they normally did, they also reported looking and feeling older.” Interestingly, though, this was only true on days when they also reported feeling that they had less control over their lives than they normally did. The scientists say this tells us that the phenomenon of stress making people feel older is not limited to older adults – and it could result in negative health outcomes, long-term.
(Great. You know what else stresses me out? Someone telling me that a stressful day is going to make me look older!)
(…and yet somehow, [Afternoon guy***] manages to waltz in here at 2o’clock every afternoon, breeze through his 4-hour shift…and he looks younger every day. Go figure!)

POP CULTURE:
⇒ If you drink just 2 cans of soda pop per week, your workouts aren’t making up for it, a study says. Pharmacologists at the Université Laval in Quebec City analyzed health data from 100,000 adults over 30 years to find that the damage done by sugar-sweetened beverages can’t be overcome with the average recommended workout quota of 150 minutes weekly. The group said in their conclusion, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition: “Physical activity reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease associated with sugar-sweetened beverages by half, but it does not fully eliminate it.” They’re urging consumers to drop cane and syrup-based sodas altogether. (So – what are we supposed to use for mix?)
⇒ A soft drink company is hiring what they call “soda consultants” to embark on an American adventure. OLIPOP, a trendy soda brand that offers a variety of flavors, says in its “Dream Job Alert” that it “is looking for two real besties great at creating content, and open to traveling to each city on OLIPOP’s tour to share their love of soda.” The “senior soda consultants” will visit 4 cities across the U.S. with $10,000 allotted for each city. The perfect candidates are 2 best friends who can create content showcasing the cities they visit and represent OLIPOP. Last year, the company received over 90,000 applications from people who were interested in the role. (After that last story, I hope they also offer health benefits!) TOWEL RACKET:
We’re accustomed to the occasional conversation about how often it is appropriate to wash your bedsheets. But what about your bath towel? According to a microbiologist, while every week or 2 is usually OK for sheets, towels are best washed every few days. Excessive? Nope. Rietie Venter, Head of Microbiology at University of South Australia, explains that when you dry yourself, you deposit thousands of skin cells and millions of microbes onto the towel. And because you use your towel to dry yourself after a shower or bath, your towel is regularly damp. Towels are also made of a thicker material than sheets, and therefore tend to stay damp for longer. Therefore, towels are a breeding ground for bacteria and molds. And this, of course, can lead to a nasty smell. Exposure to microbes in your towels (and sheets) can also lead to asthma, allergic skin irritations, or other skin infections. So, towels should be washed every few days, and your facecloth after every use. By the way, in one survey, almost half of single men reported not washing their sheets for up to 4 months at a time!
(And THAT, my friend, is why those men are single!)
(The way I figure, if I only shower half as often, I can get away with washing my towels half as often too!)

THE SNACKS THAT ADULTS ARE SEARCHING FOR:
An analysis of Google search data by Spin Genie uncovered the nostalgic snacks that people (in the US) are searching for the most. Some are still available, some are just fond memories…
1. Dunkaroos: Wat there any doubt this would be #1? What’s better than cookies dunked in sugary frosting? While they disappeared for a while, they came back in 2020, with new flavors!
2. Oreo Cakesters: They are basically an Oreo cookie, but with cake-like cookies – and frosting in the middle. They also made a comeback, in 2022.
3. Bagel Bites: The perfect after-school snack. Really, it’s a mini pizza. Except smaller. (A mini-mini pizza?)
4. Tab soda: Released in the 1960s, the cola remained a popular diet beverage until 2020, when it was discontinued. (Yeah, there’s no need to bring this one back!)
5. Fruitopia: When it debuted in the ‘90s, it was advertised as a healthy alternative to soda. The fruity drink featured flavors like Tangerine Wavelength, Strawberry Passion Awareness, Fruit Integration and Blueberry Watermelon Wisdom. A few of those have been revamped under the brand Minute Maid.
6. Crystal Pepsi: This was a no-caffeine, colorless version of the classic beverage, released in the ‘90s. It has returned as a limited-edition offer.
7. Kudos granola bars: Produced by Mars Inc. until 2017, these granola bars were coated in chocolate or caramel. And one version was covered in M&Ms. (What’s not to like?)
8. Orbitz drinks: Short-lived — but fondly remembered. These odd drinks, released in the ’90s, contained edible balls floating around the liquid. (Like drinking a bottle of confetti!)
9. Waffle Crisp cereal: Post released this in 1966, calling it a “perfect breakfast.” Each bite of the waffle-shaped cereal had notes of maple syrup. It returned to shelves in 2021.
10. Rice Krispies cereal: Not only is it a fan-favorite on its own, it’s also a popular dessert, when baked with marshmallows and butter. (Which also makes a pretty darn good breakfast…!)
(What childhood snack food would you most like to experience again?

DID YOU KNOW?
It turns having big, well-developed abs could be bad for a man’s health. Researchers from the University of California-San Diego are challenging the commonly-held belief that body composition (the amount of fat, bone, and muscle in the body) is an indicator of heart health. The new research found that that men with a larger abdominal muscle area have a 6-times greater risk of heart disease. They did not find the same co-relation in women. (I saw this just in time. I was about to do a sit-up!)

• “National Crown Roast of Pork Day”. It earns its name when a pork loin is formed into a circle with the ribs pointing upwards, forming the points of a crown. The ends of the bones may be given a paper frill treatment for added decoration.
