BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are determined that their children understand the value of providing for themselves, and Kutcher explained why during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s podcast. Kutcher said that he and Kunis won’t be leaving any money to their 3 year-old daughter Wyatt and 15 month-old son Dimitri. He says: “My kids are living in a very privileged life… and they don’t know it…And so if my kids want to start a business and they have a good business plan, I’ll invest in it but they’re not getting trusts.”
(So…who gets the money?)

★ You know all about the Oscars by now, but did you know that the satirical horror film “Get Out” was named best feature at this year’s Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday? The film, which was made for $4.5million, beat out “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and “Call Me By Your Name” for the top prize. First-time film-maker Jordan Peele was also named best director. Best Female lead went to Frances McDormand for her role in “Three Billboards”, while best the Best Male Lead winner was Timothée Chalamet for his work in “Call Me by Your Name”.

★ And what about the Razzies? Hollywood dishonored its worst on the weekend. “The Emoji Movie” won for ‘Worst Picture’. It also picked up Razzies in the ‘Worst Screenplay’ and ‘Worst Director’ categories. Tom Cruise took home ‘Worst Actor’ for his role in “The Mummy”, while Tyler Perry won ‘Worst Actress’ (you read that right) for his (her?) role as Mabel “Madea” Simmons in “Boo 2!”.

★In spite of the fact that ‘The Walking Dead’ ratings are steadily dropping as of late, AMC is looking to the future with a variety of different options on the table when it comes to extending and continuing its universe. The show has already spawned one spinoff, ‘Fear the Walking Dead’, and there may be more coming. Show runner Scott Simple says that, “I’m hoping to do a variety of different projects…and I know we’ll have more to talk about soon on that.”

★ Some exciting casting news for fans of ‘Stranger Things’: A new character is about to arrive in Hawkins. Netflix has announced that Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman’s daughter, Maya Hawke, has been cast in ‘Stranger Things 3′. Hawke will play a character called Robin who is “bored with her mundane day job. She seeks excitement in her life and gets more than she bargained for when she uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins.” She recently starred in the BBC’s new adaptation of ‘Little Women’.

Towards the end of his show, he cut short the song ‘Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting’ and left the stage. DO YOU FEEL LUCKY?
What does it take to be successful in life? Although it is certainly helpful to posses certain traits which will serve you well in your career and other areas of life…such as passion, perseverance, imagination, intellectual curiosity, and openness to experience, you have to wonder about other variables. Like plain old blind luck. In recent years, a number of studies have suggested that luck and opportunity may play a far greater role than we ever realized when it comes to finding success. Their argument is not that luck is everything; of course talent matters. But maybe where you are, and when, have as much a say in how you do as WHO you are. A group of Italian physicists came up with an experiment to make the first ever attempt to quantify the role of luck and talent in successful careers. It’s pretty complicated methodology, so I won’t attempt to explain it here, or it will become obvious that I don’t have a physics degree, but they concluded that luck and opportunity play a very significant role in determining anyone’s success in life. And likewise in anyone’s lack of success. Oh, and if you are looking for good news…they also found that luck can emerge spontaneously at any time. So hang in there!
(Never mind good luck…I’m just hoping to avoid BAD luck!)
(At least now I can blame my failure on lack of luck rather than lack of skill!)
(I guess the ‘luck’ thing would be a logical explanation for Snooki!)

PENGUINS DROPPING FROM THE ENDANGERED LIST (Literally):
News broke on the weekend that researchers have discovered a previously unknown “supercolony” of penguins off of the Antarctic Peninsula’s northern tip. A supercolony to the tune of about 1.5 million of them. This is great news to scientists because they had no idea that so many of these classic black and white penguins existed. It was thought that with changing weather patterns and dwindling food supplies, their species may be in danger. And what’s more remarkable is HOW they were discovered. They were seen from space. Or at least their guano was. NASA satellite imagery of the area showed large amounts of penguin waste, which suggested the presence of an unusually large number of penguins in an area where none had been suspected. And what’s even MORE remarkable is this: It turns out that penguin poop is pink.
(And the all-time winner of ‘Hide and Seek’ is….)
(So we don’t need to worry about the species being ‘wiped’ out?)

REASONS THAT GOOD EMPLOYEES QUIT:
(According to a survey, about half of people who leave their positions do so to get away from their boss. Any of these ring a bell?)
1. Micromanaging: It’s oppressive, fosters anxiety and creates a high-stress work environment. If you hired someone for a job, then trust them to get the job done. No one can perform at their best being constantly monitored and scrutinized. (But then again, some of us need that, or we’d never get anything done!)
2. No Opportunities for Growth and Development: Challenging projects that motivate employees causes them to grow. If they have plateaued and there is nothing else to look forward to, they become disengaged.
3. Lack of Empathy: When you regularly go beyond the call of duty for your employer, and they respond with inflexibility and insensitivity during your time of need, the relationship at that exact moment is lost.
4. Not Supporting Work-Life Balance: Encroaching on employees’ personal time by regularly pushing them to work long hours or weekends breeds resentment and disloyalty. (That’s the problem with kids today. They want to have a personal life!)
5. Not Recognizing and Rewarding Employee’s Efforts: This is a great demotivator. Everyone wants to feel appreciated. When you don’t value employees contributions, they will become disengaged. (So make sure you hand out a lot of ‘attaboys’!!)
(I’m looking at this, and I’m starting to get the impression that my boss wants me to quit!)
