BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jonathan Majors is facing criminal charges. The “Creed III” star has been charged with assault and harassment following his arrest in New York over the weekend. Police were called to an apartment over a “domestic dispute,” in which a 30-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted. He has been charged with multiple counts of assault in the third degree, as well as 3 counts of attempted assault in the third degree, and counts of aggravated harassment in the second degree and harassment in the second degree. Police said that the woman, who has not been named, was taken to hospital with minor head and neck injuries.

★ “John Wick: Chapter 4” made a killing at the box office in its first weekend — and its studio, Lionsgate, is hungry for more. CEO Joe Drake told Deadline: “We’re not ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this franchise.” Here’s the thing (***spoiler alert!): His remarks come despite a clear-cut ending for the title character in the 4th film. Drake says, though, that after watching “Chapter 4” 5 times in the past week, that there are “a lot of different things that we can do” to continue the series and still include Reeves. Little wonder: The latest Wick film scored a franchise-record box office take of $137.5 million worldwide in its first weekend, and a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

★ Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, the Oscar-winning director of “Summer of Soul,” will direct a remake of Disney’s “The Aristocats”. Similar to “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” the adaptation of “The Aristocats” will blend live action with CGI. Questlove, the drummer of the Roots, is also executive producing and overseeing music for the film.

★ Actress Ana de Armas, who was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for playing Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde,” will host “Saturday Night Live” for the first time on April 15. Her action comedy “Ghosted” with Chris Evans premieres April 21 on Apple TV+. “SNL” alum Molly Shannon returns to host for the second time on April 8. She stars in the Zach Braff movie “A Good Person,” currently in theaters. The Jonas Brothers will take the stage as musical guest April 8, while Colombia singer Karol G will make her first appearance as musical guest on April 15.

★ Liv Tyler, who played ‘Betty Ross’ in 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk,” is returning to the role in “Captain America: New World Order,” according to a source. Carl Lumbly, who was last seen as super soldier ‘Isaiah Bradley’ in the Disney+ series “The Falcon and Winter Soldier,” is also co-starring. The film stars Anthony Mackie, who took over Captain America’s shield from Chris Evans. “Captain America: New World Order” is scheduled for release on May 3, 2024.

★ Robert Downey Jr. fans now have a shot at an interesting piece of history from Jon Favreau’s Walk of Fame ceremony — because someone is selling what he claims is Iron Man’s chewed-up gum! The gum is currently up for sale on eBay with a starting bid of US $40,000. The listing says the seller attended the ceremony where “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Iron Man himself, Downey Jr., was on hand for the event — and created a moment by taking chewed gum out of his mouth and sticking on Favreau’s shiny new star., joking that he did so “just to make it official.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mr42ndkp

SHOOTING THE BULL

LORDY, LOOK WHO’S 40:
Middle-aged millennials have arrived – and they are changing travel as we know it. Millennials are generally defined as those born between 1981-96, and as more and more of them turn 40, the research company Morning Consult says they are bringing their tech-savviness, social consciousness and spending habits in tow. Experts say they are traveling more often than other age groups – for example, 18% of millennials have taken 3 or more domestic flights in the past year, compared to 10% of Gen Xers and 6% of baby boomers. And they’re also traveling differently from generations before them. Although money worries have caused millennials to delay home and car purchases, they see travel as a right, not a privilege, and although they’re willing to spend, they aren’t willing to splurge. That means they may not be looking for top-of-the-line options when traveling. But they’re not looking for ‘spring break’ type getaways anymore, either. Millennials are more likely to seek trips that focus on mental health and relaxation, and tend to want to stay in hotels with spas and wellness services, and travel sustainably.
(Hey! I’d like to stay there, too!)
(My idea of traveling sustainably these days is having enough money to fill the tank on the way to work!)

THE DEVIL’S IN THE DETAILS:
What’s a sure-fire way to tell if someone is lying? Forget verbal or facial cues. And you definitely can’t rely on so-called “lie-detector” machines. According to an expert…there is one reliable method to catching a liar – attention to detail. Specifically, paying attention to how much detail the person is able to provide. Bruno Verschuere, Associate Professor of Forensic Psychology at the University of Amsterdam, says: “People who tell the truth can give a rich description because they actually experienced the event, whereas although liars can come up with details, this increases their risk of being caught.” His team has conducted studies to back this up.
(This guy may be right…but I’m still gonna go with whatever method it is that Keith Morrison is using!)
(And a sure-fire way to tell when [***afternoon guy***] is lying: He says “I’ll pay you back”!)

CROSS TO BEAR:
Everybody does it. But how does it affect us? I’m talking about crossing our legs when sitting. According to a report in The Conversation, crossing your legs could impact numerous parts of the body, and lead to some serious health concerns. Among them: misaligning your hips, and increasing the risk of blood clots as the flow of blood changes. And just so you know, crossing at the knees is worse than crossing at the ankles. Crossing your legs at the knees increases blood pressure because your blood begins to pool – and it could lead to blood vessel damage as well. Both the spine and shoulders can become misaligned and, in the pelvis, muscle lengths can be changed over the long term. Need more? Crossing your legs can also lead to nerve damage in the lower leg, and for men, it can impact sperm count. Not from the “squishing”, but from the resulting heat retention…down there.
(Thanks for this. You’ve just managed to make sitting through a children’s Christmas concert even MORE unbearable!)
(Still – all this beats a severe case of “Numb-butt”, which is what you get if you don’t cross ‘em!)

WARNING SIGNS FOR DOG BREEDS:
A veterinarian assistant has shared a series on TikTok of what “warning signs” for different dog breeds would look like. Throughout the 3-part series, an AI voice narrates the warnings for each breed while a photo of the pooches is displayed. Here they are…
☞ Pitbull:  You wanted a big tough dog, but they’ll mostly just be itching their skin off.
☞ Bulldog:  You’ll be cleaning crevices for the rest of their life.
☞ Cavalier King Charles:  All we see when you walk into the clinic is a time bomb of heart failure. (Ouch!)
☞ German Shepherd:  Invest in training or be ready to pay for sedatives for all doctor visits.
☞ Australian Cattle Dog:  Similar to Border Collies but with a touch of murderous intent and on crack.
☞ Border Collie:  How ever much exercise you think this dog needs, multiply that by 10.
☞ Doberman:  Can go from cinnamon roll to psychopath in an instant.
☞ Beagle:  Oscar winning drama queens with the pipes of an opera singer.
☞ Corgi: Similar to the other herding dogs here but with a Napoleon Complex.”

According to information gleaned from 8 expert websites…
1. Surgeon (You don’t want to have an “off-day” when you’re a surgeon!)

3. Firefighter (Yes, it’s stressful, but there’s also that awesome fire pole to slide down, so there’s that…)
4. Social Worker (They belong here solely based on the number of forms they have to fill out…!)
5. Paramedic (Mad respect for paramedics. But aren’t we getting a little “carried away” here?)
(What would you add to the list?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Drinking coffee will help you get more steps in each day, but you’ll also probably get less sleep, according to a new study by researchers at University of California, San Francisco. It was found that on days when test participants drank coffee, they took an average of 1,058 more steps than they did on non-coffee days. But on days when they had a cup, sleep took a hit, with participants getting 36 fewer minutes of shut-eye. The more coffee they drank, the more physical activity and the less sleep they got. (Of COURSE you get less sleep on days when you have coffee – that’s why you drank the coffee in the first place!)

BS CHRONOMETER 03.29.23

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Mom & Pop Business Owners Day”, honoring family-run, small-time business operations. (***Ask listeners for the most unusual combination of services offered by a single business that they’ve come across, ie: “Sam’s Roofing & Dry Cleaning”…***)
• “Smoke & Mirrors Day”, The name is based on magicians’ illusions, in which they make objects appear or disappear by extending or retracting mirrors amid a confusing burst of smoke. But ‘smoke and mirrors’ may refer to any presentation in which the audience is intended to be deceived. (A press conference, for instance.)
• “Vietnam Veterans Day”, The last US troops left Vietnam 50 years ago today, in 1973. In 1971, at the height of the conflict, some 33,000 soldiers deserted, many moving to Canada.
• “Knights of Columbus Founders Day”, the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven CT, in 1882, it was named in honor of explorer Christopher Columbus.
• “Lemon Chiffon Cake Day”, the recipe debuted in a 1948 edition of Better Homes and Gardens. General Mills marketed it as “the first new cake in 100 years” and it quickly became a sensation. The secret recipe called for vegetable oil instead of butter or shortening, and instructed the baker to beat the egg whites and egg yolks separately.
• “Piano Day”, takes place on the 88th day of the year, because of the number of keys on the instrument. Piano Day celebrates pianos and everything in their orbit: composers, performers, listeners, builders, tuners…and even piano movers.
• “Little Red Wagon Day”, celebrating little red toy wagons, specifically the ones made by Radio Flyer. Radio Flyer created National Little Red Wagon Day in 2016, in anticipation of their 100th anniversary.
