BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Wendy Williams’ guardianship is being investigated as “elder abuse,” according to a new report. Adult Protective Services opened a case last week after her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, sent the former talk show host to visit her father in Florida with no money, the US Sun reported. A source was quoted as saying that Williams’ “civil rights and liberty are being denied”. Meanwhile, a psychiatrist at the New York hospital where Williams was taken Monday has reportedly determined that her mental capacity is intact. She arrived by ambulance after cops were called to her assisted living facility for a wellness check when she tossed a handwritten note from a window, pleading for help. TMZ says she scored “10 out of 10” on a psychological examination called a “capacity test”, to determine whether she was alert and oriented correctly.

★ “Ghost Adventures” star Aaron Goodwin’s wife has been arrested for allegedly trying to hire a hitman to kill him, says a new report. TMZ says Victoria Goodwin was charged last week with solicitation to commit murder and conspiracy to commit murder after allegedly planning to kill her husband of almost 3 years while he was filming the show. She had been communicating with a prison inmate in Florida since October about wanting out of her marriage, according to a police report, allegedley writing in one message: “Am I a bad person? Because I chose to end his existence.” Her plan was uncovered when correctional officers confiscated the inmate’s phone.

★ Emmy winner Eric Stonestreet of “Modern Family” fame is the latest big name added to the cast of Showtime’s new drama “Dexter: Resurrection”, which chronicles a new chapter for Michael C. Hall’s serial killer ‘Dexter Morgan’. In a guest-arc, he will play ‘Al’, a Midwesterner who is believed to be a serial killer. Stonestreet joins other big names tapped for guest starring stints as rumored serial killers, including Krysten Ritter and Neil Patrick Harris.

★ Good news and bad news for fans of “The Neighborhood.” After weeks of silence, the CBS comedy has been renewed for another season, but that will be the series’ last. Season 8 will broadcast during the 2025-26 television season on CBS, and will also be on Paramount+. The network said that the “show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.” The Neighborhood stars Cedric the Entertainer as ‘Calvin Butler’, and he also serves as an executive producer.

SHOOTING THE BULL

DENTAL COVERAGE:
A new survey found that – believe it or not – more than half of us aren’t always honest — with our dentist! And when you heard that, did ‘flossing’ immediately come to mind? The survey of 2,000 adults in the US found that 57% have lied to their dentist about their dental hygiene. Why? Six in 10 said they did so because they wanted to “impress” their dentist. 33% said they simply didn’t want their dentist to think less of them. But whatever the reason, it may have been all for naught. Nearly half (48%) think their dentist can see right through their falsehoods about brushing and flossing habits. By the way, no matter what they told their dentist, 53% of respondents admitted in the survey that they don’t floss.
(I don’t know why they always ask me at the dentist’s office when I flossed last. I mean, they should know – after all, they did it!)
(It’s not my dentist that I tell lies to. It the dental hygienist – she scares the heck out of me!)

NEW FOOD NEWS:
❑ An Australian pizza chain has taken the ‘pineapple on pizza’ debate to a whole new level. Bubba Pizza, is now selling a “ham and orange pizza” at select stores. The new creation features a tomato base, Bubba’s Original Smoked Leg Ham, mozzarella – and chunks of fresh orange. Marketing material for the new flavor encourages pizza fans to “break the pineapple divide” and “try orange instead.” But social media users had a strong reaction to the pizza, with one writing: “Straight to jail”. Another remarked: “Some people just want to watch the world burn.” (“Orange you glad they didn’t add toothpaste?) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ytkyrtz7
❑ It’s just what your kids need: Candy that glows in the dark. Treat-maker Mondelez is packing its Sour Patch Kids with turmeric-extract, which makes the candies fluorescent when exposed to blacklights. The company said the idea was inspired by observing how much Gen Z loves glow-in-the-dark elements in other settings, including DJs.  Another of the cookie-and-candy giant’s brands, Swedish Fish, will also be offered in a new version that glows. (Sour Patch Kids: First they’re sour, then they’re sweet — and now they’re radioactive?)

HOLY SHIRT:
Jerseys worn by Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant in their first-ever NBA games are going up for auction this spring – and they’re worth millions. Sotheby’s, which is handling the sale, said the jerseys, which represent the 2 legends’ “humble beginnings,” are expected to sell for about $10 million apiece. Michael Jordan’s signed, game-worn Chicago Bulls uniform from Oct. 4, 1984 (his first game) is one of only 4 Jordan jerseys that were actually found to be legit when a new “photo-matching” technology was used to analyze 130 supposedly “authentic” Jordan jerseys. Similarly rare is the late Kobe Bryant’s debut LA Lakers jersey. The number 8 jersey has been photo-matched to his preseason debut in October 1996, and regular-season debut the next month. Up ‘til now, the most valuable jersey ever sold is a Michael Jordan game-worn 1998 NBA finals jersey that went for $10.1 million in 2022. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/vjcbdb73
(For $10 million, Jordan had better be hand-delivering it – and giving a free motivational speech while he’s at it!)
(The problem with buying something like that is if MJ does something stupid and gets canceled, it’s YOU who loses millions!)
(I couldn’t even afford his White Sox jersey…)

SECRETS OF THE FRUGAL:
We’ve talked about this before, but you can never have too many ‘money-saving’ tips. Here are some of the best responses to a Reddit thread that asked: “What frugal/cheap thing will you do no matter your finances?”
► “I’ll always use the library to borrow audio/Kindle books, etc. Check to see if your local library participates in the Libby app. I easily read/listen to at least $4,000 worth of books a year.”
► “Only subscribe to one streaming service at a time; once I sign up, I immediately cancel and use it until the month is up. If there are still a few things I want to watch, I’ll go another month. If not, I move on to a new one!”
► “Save and reuse gift bags and tissue paper.” (I think my wife has an entire basement section dedicated to exactly this!)
►”I’ll never pay to withdraw my own money from a cash machine. It would have to be life or death before I paid even $1.” (Here! Here!)
► “I always make sure to meal prep. It’s such a small effort upfront but it saves me a lot of time and money throughout the week. Plus, it helps me avoid those tempting fast food runs.”
► “Eat leftovers and try my (darndest) not to throw food away.”
► “THRIIIIIFT! If I’ve got a butt-load of money, maybe I’d frequent the higher-end vintage stores, but I love thrifting!
► “Get water instead of soda when eating out. Both because it’s outrageous to pay $3-4 for a glass of soda, and to cut out extra calories…”
► “Add water to the end of the shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc., to get that one last wash.”
► “Squeeze every ounce of toothpaste out before replacing it.”
(What’s your best ‘frugal tip’?)

DID YOU KNOW?
AI chatbots have been found to experience a form of “stress” when faced with distressing content. A new international study revealed that large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4 demonstrate changes in their output patterns when processing traumatic information. Researchers also found that relaxation prompts can help “calm” these AI systems. To be clear, AI systems cannot and do not experience emotions, but the study used the term “anxiety” metaphorically to describe variations in how the model responds under different conditions. (So…if AI is getting ‘stressed,’ can it call in sick, or does it just send you gibberish for a day?)

BS CHRONOMETER 03.12.25

TODAY’S BS REASON TO PARTY . . .
• “World Day Against Cyber Censorship”, initiated by Reporters Without Borders and Amnesty International in 2008. The idea is to rally everyone in support of an internet that is unrestricted and accessible to all, and to try to keep governments from controlling it.
• “Working Moms Day”. Today, working moms celebrate themselves by sharing their stories of resilience, and celebrate other working moms by sharing their appreciation for them. (It wouldn’t hurt if the rest of us did the same!)
• “Alfred Hitchcock Day”. His prolific film-making career spanned half a century – from 1921 to his last film, “Family Plot”, in 1976. His unique cinematic style in the genres of psychological thrillers and suspense earned him the title ‘Master of Suspense’.
• “Girl Scout Day”, celebrating the creation of the first Girl Scout group (originally ‘Girl Guides’) on March 12, 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah GA, who gathered together a troop of 18 girls and taught them how to milk a cow, tie up a burglar, and the complicated art of boiling water. (So, grab a cookie [or 12] and to celebrate!)
• “Plant a Flower Day”, a day to get a little dirt under your fingernails. Take a few minutes and plant a petunia today (or at least blow the dust off the fake ones).
• “Milky Way Day”. The Milky Way chocolate bar was created in 1923 by Frank Mars, and named after a popular milkshake of the day. Here’s where it gets confusing: The US Milky Way bar is sold as the Mars bar worldwide, including Canada – while the global Milky Way bar is sold as the 3 Musketeers bar in the US and Canada. (Yes, but why?)
• “Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day”, a part of Nutrition Month, to increase awareness about registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) as “indispensable providers of food and nutrition services.”
• “Baked Scallops Day”. There are 2 fleshy parts of the scallop that are usually sold at the market for human consumption. The adductor muscle is the white medallion of meat which is rich and sweet. This is the piece that is the “scallop” we see on a menu.
