★ Bindi Irwin was unable to attend her late father Steve Irwin’s gala following a sudden health emergency that required emergency surgery. ★ Rob Ford’s wild ride as mayor of Toronto is heading to the small screen. Netflix has released details of its forthcoming documentary series “Trainwreck”. The first episode, titled “Mayor of Mayhem”, is set to become available June 17. ★ “Thunderbolts*” is still shaking up the box office. It brought in an estimated $25 million domestically over Mother’s Day weekend, while “Sinners” remained in second place. The horror film starring Michael B. Jordan hit a worldwide total of about $330 million, making history as the highest earning original horror movie since “A Quiet Place” in 2018. “A Minecraft Movie” stayed in third place, and edged over the $900 million mark worldwide.

★ Francis Ford Coppola bought and renovated an old Days Inn in Peachtree City GA, with an eye toward building a unique space: a welcoming place to stay for people who are making movies in the area — or just for the people who love them (movies, that is). The All-Movie Hotel, which negotiates special rates for productions, is designed to be the home away from home for some of the non-local cast and crew working on these projects. For others, prices begin at $180 a night, and go up to $420 for the Francis Ford Coppola Suite, which includes a giant cinema screen and projector, velvet upholstered director’s chairs.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift — has officially been subpoenaed as a witness in Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s legal feud. A spokesperson for Swift had a problem with that, saying: “Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, (the subpoena) is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait…”
• Kendrick Lamar — leads all nominees for the 2025 BET Awards, with 10 nods, including album of the year for “GNX” and video of the year for his Drake diss ‘Not Like Us’. Doechii, Drake, Future and GloRilla all have 6. The BETs will air on BET on June 9, hosted by Kevin Hart.
• The Weeknd – will make his first-ever appearance on a late-night talk show on Thursday. He’s heading to “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” for a conversation with the host. He’ll also perform.
• Gloria Gaynor – The ‘I Will Survive’ singer has released the new song ‘When I See You’. It’s a preview of the disco queen’s upcoming EP “Happy Tears”, out June 6. Her official biopic “Robin Roberts Presents I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story” debuted on Lifetime in February. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4emmhvw8
• AC/DC – Tom Compagnoni, an Australia-based video producer, has released on YouTube a 30-minute documentary that dives into the group’s early history in Sydney. “Exploring AC/DC’s Forgotten Sydney: Lost Landmarks of Rock History” visits the spots around the city where the band rehearsed, gigged, recorded and grew up, including their first show at Chequers and the house where Angus and Malcolm Young learned to play guitar. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4np7uvk3
• Alice in Chains – has canceled all upcoming concerts due to medical issues for drummer Sean Kinney. A statement says the decision was made “following the advice of medical professionals”, and “although the issue requires immediate attention, his long-term prognosis is positive.” They were forced to call off their planned show Thursday in Uncasville CT, after Kinney fell ill. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yv6ccnk6
• Zach Bryan — has removed the song ‘Memphis; The Blues’ from his newest album “The Great American Bar Scene” after collaborator John Moreland called out the musician’s reported $350 million deal with Warner Records. Moreland had posted a photo of the back of his head on IG, writing: “$350M is a lot of money to pay for the (bleep!) off-brand version of me.”
• Blake Shelton – The former “The Voice” coach is returning to the singing competition series for the first time since leaving in 2023, after 23 seasons as a coach. He’ll make his Voice homecoming on the May 20 season finale to perform ‘Texas’, from his new album “For Recreational Use Only”.
• Gretchen Wilson — is working on a reimagined version of her 2004 album “Here for the Party”, featuring duets on each song. Guests so far include Travis Tritt and Chapel Hart. This follows her Season 13 win on “The Masked Singer”, and a run of health battles, including long-haul COVID, and a freak accident that shattered her leg and ankle, confining her to a wheelchair for 8 months.
SHOOTING THE BULL
AGING IMAGING:
Doctors often rely on a quick visual assessment — the so-called “eyeball test” — to judge whether a patient looks older or younger than their age, which can help them decide on treatment. But a new tool called FaceAge could soon give that snap judgment a scientific boost. FaceAge is an AI algorithm that analyzes a simple headshot to estimate a person’s biological age – not their actual age. Trained on tens of thousands of photos, it found that cancer patients appeared about 5 years older than their healthy peers. The tool could help doctors decide how aggressively to treat patients, by identifying those who might tolerate intensive care versus those who may need a gentler approach. FaceAge was tested on more than 6,000 patients and showed a strong link between higher biological age and poorer survival rates. And it improved doctors’ ability to predict patient outcomes. Now, researchers are refining the model and looking into making it available, although certain ethical questions remain.
(Yeah, I can’t wait until life insurance companies hear about THIS!)
(That’s ALL I need: FaceAge telling me what my knees told me years ago!)

THE FUTURE IN AISLE STYLE:
The world has been given a look at Walmart’s so-called “store of the future”, and it says the goal is to make shopping so smooth and fast that you’ll wonder why you ever used to spend hours wandering up and down the aisles. The future-Walmart, unveiled in Cypress, Texas, features things like a full-service fuel station, a pharmacy drive-thru, and food options that go way beyond frozen pizza — think fresh tortillas, sushi, Dunkin’, and even a Hispanic bakery section. Need to multitask? There’s an auto care center, a mother’s room, and an app that lets you schedule TV mounting, book tire installs, or “zhuzh” up your gift registry while grabbing snacks. Pickup and delivery are turbocharged too — curbside, 3-hour delivery, and even 30-minute express runs. Also in the cards for future Walmart shoppers are digital shelf labels, and QR codes everywhere that unlock an expanded assortment of products. The company says about 150 of these futuristic stores will be built over the next several years.
(At this rate, Walmart will deliver my groceries before I even order them!)
(So…you know the old saying about never buying gas station sushi? I’m just wondering if this counts…!)

PAWS AND REFLECT:
According to a new survey, more than half of people would shave years off their lives – if they could add those years to their pet’s lifespan. And little wonder: the poll also showed the incredible impact pets have on our wellbeing – with nearly 3 in 5 respondents saying their furry friends have literally saved their lives. According to the Talker Research poll of 2,000 cat and dog owners in the US, 56% would trade years off their own life to extend their pet’s. More than one-third said they intentionally got a pet to improve their mental health, and for nearly all of them (95%), it’s working. Want more details on some of the miracles that our canine and feline friends perform? The survey found that our pets make us smile an average of 11 times daily, and laugh about 9 times. Pet parents were found to be almost TWICE as likely to trust their furry friend over their romantic partner (53% vs. 27%). And just 11% said they trust their best friend the most.
(Maybe so – but when it comes to my pizza leftovers, I don’t trust any of ‘em!)
(Eleven smiles and 9 laughs a day? My therapist can’t even pull those numbers!)
