Sheet For Brains!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Cher is remembering her onscreen mother Olympia Dukakis. On Saturday, shortly after news of Dukakis’ death at age 89 was made public, Cher reflected on her “Moonstruck” costar’s legacy on Twitter, writing: “Olympia Dukakis Was an Amazing Academy Award Winning Actress. Olympia Played My Mom In Moonstruck, & Even Though Her Part was That Of a Suffering Wife, We (laugh emoji) ALL The Time.” The character actress was also known for playing the wealthy widow in “Steel Magnolias.” Her brother Apollo announced the news on Facebook, writing: “After many months of failing health she is finally at peace and with her Louis.”

★ Is ‘Bennifer’ back on? Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are reportedly hanging out again, but just as friends. The former couple is said to have spent time together at J-Lo’s Los Angeles home on Friday. Affleck was photographed leaving in a white Escalade that belongs to Lopez. Reps for both stars have yet to comment, and while the pair hasn’t actually been spotted together, sources say their reunion may not be as surprising as it sounds. (The worst part of this could be if they decide to do another movie together…)

★ Prince Charles is battling with his son, his dad recently passed, and now the heir to the throne is bracing for a new documentary on his late ex-wife, which is said to be packed with embarrassing tidbits. The program is a sequel to last year’s “Diana: In Her Own Words”. Filmmaker Tom Jennings says he has 6 unheard hours of audio recordings made by Princess Diana for Andrew Morton when he was writing the 1992 biography “Diana: Her True Story”. Jennings says his team have culled through the shocking audio tapes made by the princess.

★ Melissa Rauch is trading in her lab coat for a judge’s robe: “The Big Bang Theory” alum will star as Judge Harry Stone’s daughter in NBC’s upcoming “Night Court” sequel series. Rauch will star as ‘Abby Stone’, the daughter of ‘Judge Harry Stone’, who was played by the late Harry Anderson in the original series, which ran from 1984-92. Described as “an unapologetic optimist,” Abby is a judge herself, who steps into her dad’s role presiding over the graveyard shift on a Manhattan arraignment court.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Justin Bieber and BTS — are collaborating on a new song. It could be part of a deluxe release of Bieber’s “Justice” album. It would be the record’s second re-release, following the “Triple Chucks Deluxe” edition. The members of BTS are avowed Beliebers, having named him as a musical influence in past interviews.
• Nick Jonas — will host the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. The show will take place on May 23rd in Los Angeles. The Weeknd leads nominations with 16. DaBaby is up for 11, and Pop Smoke has 10 posthumous nods.
• Twisted Sister — Dee Snider says that he has “no financial interest” in the court decision forcing Australian politician Clive Palmer to pay $1.2 million for using the song in his party’s advertising. Snider, who testified in the case, tweeted that he sold his music catalogue “years ago”, but “fought…to defend my creation & to stand up against bullies for every creative who’s (never) been in the position to fight.”
• The Beatles – During an appearance on “The Late Show”, Ringo Starr told host Stephen Colbert what his favorite Beatles song is. When asked what song he would listen to “for the rest of his life”, Starr responded: “There’s lots of other favorites, but if you want one, ‘Come Together’ can’t be bad. I just think it worked perfectly with the band…I loved that moment.”
• Tom Jones – says it’s “tremendous” that he has become the oldest man ever to top the U.K. album chart, thanks to his new record, “Surrounded by Time”. Vera Lynn topped the chart with a greatest hits collection in 2009 aged 92, but Jones is the oldest to achieve the feat with a newly recorded album.
• Gabby Barrett – leads country music nominations for the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, which will be handed out May 23. Barrett has 9 nods, including for Top Country Artist, Top Country Female Artist, Top Country Album, Top Country Song and 5 all-genre categories. That also makes her the most-nominated woman at the awards show.
• Morgan Wallen — will not take part in the 2021 Billboard Music Awards following his use of a racial slur in a leaked February video. In a press release, Dick Clark productions said: “As his recent conduct does not align with our core values, we will not be including him on the show in any capacity…We plan to evaluate his progress and will consider his participation in future shows.” He received 6 nominations.
• Chris Lane — released his newest song ‘Summer Job Money’ on Friday, and he’s hoping it captures the summertime spirit that Kenny Chesney is so well known for. Quote: “He is the king of that kind of song and I really love it. It’s just what I wanted.” LINK: https://youtu.be/lte7ZbO9vOs
SHOOTING THE BULL
NETFLIX AND SHUFFLE:
Netflix has added the one feature that it seems everyone has been asking for since…we stopped getting DVDs via snail mail: “Shuffle”. Last week, Netflix announced that “Play Something”, the name they’ve given their shuffle feature, is now available for all users. The streaming company says Play Something can perform a few tasks: it will either play a new series or film similar to one you’ve watched before, it can automatically play an episode or film you’ve already watched and may want to watch again, and it can play an episode from a show you’ve started but haven’t finished (picking up where you left off).
(Or in my case, it’ll play a film similar to one that the dude who lent me his password has watched before!)
(What I really need is it to choose something that’s NOT similar to the crap I’ve watched before!)
(I’m happy to see this. But it’s definitely not a Netflix original!)

WEAKENED:
So, what did you do on the weekend? Fill your face every chance you had? Probably, if this new study is accurate. A survey has found that two-thirds of us use our weekend meals as a “reward” for making it through another work week. It found that more than two in five (44%) adults say they eat better quality food on weekends than they do Mon.-Fri. And more than half (55%) believe eating can act as a form of therapy. The OnePoll survey of 2,000 Americans also revealed that 59% feel too tired at the end of the workday to actually cook anything, perhaps opting for the fast-food drive-thru. 31% admitted they just don’t want to do dishes on a workday.
(The problem is that I choose quantity over quality on the weekend, too!)
(It’s funny, because my family uses Monday meals as a reward for making it through another weekend…with me!)
(Alright! Instead of “cheat day”, we now have the “cheat weekend”!)

GOOD TO THE LAST DROP:
The time-honored tradition of struggling to squeeze the last bit of toothpaste from the tube could become a thing of the past. Colgate has partnered with LiquiGlide to come up with a new toothpaste tube with a coating designed to avoid any waste. LiquiGlide went viral in 2012 with a video showing a ketchup bottle being completely empties. The slippery coating technology that made that possible is what makes Colgate’s new Elixir toothpaste frictionless. They say that with traditional tubes, 1-13% of toothpaste goes to waste. Right now, Colgate is only selling the new “clear, completely transparent, fully recyclable” toothpaste tubes with the special coating in Europe. No word on when it might be available in North America.
(And we’ll probably pay 40% more to get at 13% more of our toothpaste!)
(Trust me, with my toothpaste, just 1% goes to waste!)
(Or, you could be like (***co-host***), who is so stingy, he cuts the end off, just to make sure he gets it all…)

MOTHER’S DAY GIFT IDEAS (that you can do even during quarantine):
☞ Make her breakfast in bed: Yes, it’s an oldie but a goodie, but it’s a great way for mom to kickstart her day. Make breakfast as a family while she sleeps, then present it to her along with gifts and a card. (Next, pay someone to clean the kitchen before she sees it…)
☞ Host a virtual Mother’s Day celebration: If you can’t be with her, meet via Zoom or Skype and bring the party to mom. You can play a game, ask attendees to bake a Mother’s Day cake beforehand, and have Mom open up her Mother’s Day presents in front of everyone. (Invite your siblings too…or not…)
☞ Virtual cooking class: Make an elaborate meal for her by attending a virtual cooking class. Mom can get in on the fun, or she can enjoy from the comfort of the couch. (As if Mom is going to let you cook without her overseeing things…)
☞ Clean house: Take something off her to-do list by cleaning house, or handling any of the chores that others depend on her for. Keep it up, even after Mother’s Day.
☞ Set up a scrapbooking session: Better than digital! Buy a scrapbook, print off pics of a family trip or just a few favorites you know mom loves, then get to work. Not only will she enjoy the keepsake, but she’ll definitely love reminiscing.
☞ At home spa: Let her relax and focus on self-care. Set up an at-home spa…it could be a bath, an elaborate skincare routine, or a massage. Let her relax in a spa-like environment from the safety and comfort of her own home. (Just ignore Dad when he wonders why there’s a bodybuilder named ‘Svend’ walking around the living room…)

DID YOU KNOW?
Orson Welles’s 1941 movie masterpiece “Citizen Kane” , isn’t as ‘fresh’ as it used to be. The Oscar-winning film has lost its perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes after a negative 80-year-old review was unearthed as part of the website’s Archival Project. The single negative review, out of a total of 116 that make up the film’s score, came from a critic at the Chicago Tribune who wrote, under the pseudonym “Mae Tinée’ (inspired by the word matinée), that the cinematic classic’s “sacrifice of simplicity to eccentricity robs it of distinction and general entertainment value.” The movie now has a 99% score on the site’s ‘Tomatometer’.

• “World Press Freedom Day”, created by the UN to recognize the value of freedom of expression and the sacrifices journalists have made to attain this freedom.
• “Garden Meditation Day”, a day to let go of your concerns and center your full attention on a garden, even if it’s just for a few minutes. (Maybe meditate about when you’re going to get around to weeding?)
• “Melanoma Monday”, raises awareness for melanoma and other skin cancers and encourages early detection of melanoma through self-exams. Here are some ways to reduce your risk:
⇒ Wear sunscreen to protect from harmful UV rays. Reapply it throughout the day, too.
⇒ Wear a broad-brimmed hat, long sleeves, and pants. And don’t forget to cover the back of your neck.
⇒ Find shade. Trees, umbrellas, and awnings provide excellent sun protection on warm sunny days.
⇒ Don’t let the clouds fool you. UV rays still reach your skin on a cloudy day.
⇒ Avoid tanning beds. The UV light puts you at risk for melanoma, too.
⇒ Regularly check your skin for abnormal moles. If you notice changes, see a dermatologist.

Happiness and sadness run parallel to each other. When one takes a rest, the other tends to take up the slack.
