If You Can’t Beguile Them With Brilliance, Baffle Them With Bull!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jay Leno recently appeared on “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” and looked back at his since-resolved feud with Jimmy Kimmel. That started in 2010 when Kimmel guested on “The Tonight Show” after Leno was reinstated as host following Conan O’Brien’s tumultuous exit. According to Leno, Kimmel “humiliated” him on his own show, and he “never had it edited”. Kimmel repeatedly fired off jokes at Leno’s expense, and at the time, Leno felt: “It was my mistake…Ok, I should pay the price.” Leno and Kimmel have since settled their feud, starting with Leno’s decision to call Kimmel after the latter’s son had heart surgery in 2017. Kimmel has said he “made peace” with Leno, thanks to the kind gesture.

★ Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are doling out the paired drink recipes — for drinkers and non-drinkers alike. This September, the duo will be releasing “Both Sides of the Glass: Paired Cocktails and Mocktails to Toast Any Taste”. The book comes out of the desire for the couple to share both the tasty, alcoholic libations that Harris enjoys, while making sure that Burtka, who is 8 years sober, doesn’t have to miss out on any of those special “raising a glass” moments.

★ In a recent podcast, David Spade revealed he was pitched an idea to make a sequel to “Tommy Boy,” his 1995 buddy comedy with the late Chris Farley. But for him, without Farley, it was a no-go. He explained that the idea came up 2 years ago, but he said to himself: “I can’t find a scenario with no Chris Farley. He was the whole movie.” Spade shut the pitch down immediately, because it would have been “too much of a sell-out”. The 2 actors were close friends and were “SNL” co-stars for 5 years before headlining Tommy Boy together.

★ “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul has signed on to star in psychological thriller “The Midnight Pool”. He’ll play ‘Johnny Black’, a jaded journalist who, after a personal tragedy, is lured into the shadows of an elite, exclusive society, where the pursuit of a career-defining story becomes a descent into illusion, manipulation and altered realities. Filming is set to begin on location in Europe later this year.

★ The Walt Disney Co. is bringing a new Disney theme park and resort to Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. The new destination will be the company’s 7th global resort, and its first in the Middle East. Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro said the new park and resort will be the company’s most “modern” destination yet, and will also be its most “tech-forward” park. No word on an opening date.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Lorde — attended her first Met Gala in 4 years on Monday, but she wasn’t just there for fun. According to her, the look she wore on the red carpet is an “Easter egg” regarding something she has coming in the future. It also happens to express how she’s feeling in terms of her gender identity, “a man and woman type of vibe”, to use her words. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4cmtbyj4
• Halsey – Her new song ‘Hand That Feeds’ for the upcoming film “Ballerina” will arrive tomorrow, featuring none other than one of her heroes, Amy Lee of Evanescence. • Akon – He announced in April that he is “redoing (his) whole catalog in country,” and now we know what he meant. Josh Ross has recorded a version of Akon’s 2008 hit ‘Right Now (Na Na Na)’, titling it ‘Drunk Right Now (Na Na Na)’. It’ll drop May 28, but you can hear a snippet now on his TikTok. • Smokey Robinson — is being sued by 4 women who say he repeatedly sexually assaulted them and raped them while they worked for him. The suit was filed in Los Angeles on Tuesday by 4 Jane Does, who all claim they worked as housekeepers for the 85-year-old and his wife.
• Soundgarden – guitarist Kim Thayil has confirmed the group still plans to release the unfinished album they were working on at the time of singer Chris Cornell’s 2017 death. Quote: “It would be a great gift to the fans…and I don’t know how strange this sounds, but I feel like it’s a gift to Chris too.”
• Paul McCartney — The voice cast for the upcoming 3D animated film based on his 2005 children’s book “High in the Clouds” will be led by Celine Dion, Himesh Patel, and Hannah Waddingham. It’ll also feature the voices of Idris Elba, Lionel Richie, Ringo Starr, Jimmy Fallon, and more.
• Aerosmith – Joe Perry is taking the Joe Perry Project on the road this summer for a brief North American tour, featuring an all-star lineup. • Brantley Gilbert — made his “Tattoos Tour” unforgettable for a lucky fan by letting her get a tattoo live onstage during his show in Albany NY on April 24. Video shows a woman, who won a fan contest, getting inked near the soundboard as Gilbert performs. It was done by Gilbert’s personal tattoo artist. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n77b5h6

SHOOTING THE BULL
MISSION: I’M-POPPABLE:
Those who go to see Tom Cruise’s next “Mission: Impossible” movie at US theater chain Regal Cinemas will have the chance to get their hands on an exclusive popcorn bucket that requires a key to open it up. The 2-part key is built to resemble the “cruciform key” that Cruise’s character ‘Ethan Hunt’ fights to get HIS hands on throughout 2023’s “Dead Reckoning”. Regal Cinemas made the announcement in an Instagram post, saying that the popcorn bucket’s 2-part key combines into a larger key that opens up the top of the bucket, revealing the buttery popcorn inside. And even though “Misson: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” doesn’t hit theaters until May 23, eBay sellers are already offering the buckets for at least $80.00 each. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/46khe4wu
(Oh, and one more thing: If you don’t disarm the popcorn bucket in 30 seconds, your seat parachutes out of the theater!)
(A 2-part key that combines into a larger key? It’ll be just like trying to get at my wife’s snack-stash at home!)

EXER-WISE:
Let’s face it — most of us aren’t exactly crushing it at the gym. But here’s some good news: even tiny bursts of everyday movement can give your heart a serious boost. A study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that things like hustling up the stairs, power-walking to catch the bus, or lugging grocery bags inside can slash your risk of heart attack and stroke — especially for women. Researchers followed over 22,000 people for nearly 8 years, and found that women who sprinkled in about 3-4 minutes a day of these quick, intense movements were up to 45% less likely to suffer major heart issues. And for those who managed to squeeze in a few more bursts of energy, the benefits got even bigger. The researchers caution that this info isn’t a free pass to ditch all workouts forever (sorry), but it’s still good news if you’re not into treadmills or spin class. As study author Emmanuel Stamatakis put it, “This kind of activity is doable — no fancy gym, no travel, no time block required.”
(So basically, my daily dose of running late and panicking is saving my life?)
(Awesome – Hang on, I’ve just gotta do a quick sprint to the fridge…for my health, of course!)

SOAP IT, DON’T SKIP IT:
Turns out, a lot of us still need a refresher on something we all learned in kindergarten: wash your hands, people. A new survey from the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases found that nearly half of Americans either forget – or just decide not to wash their hands at important times — like after hitting the grocery store, eating out, or leaving a doctor’s office. Yikes. On the other hand, some people did pick up better habits during the pandemic. About a third said they’re scrubbing up more now than back then. Most people (62%) knew the gold standard: soap and water for 20 seconds. But only 30% said they would wash up after coughing or sneezing — even though germs love that shortcut. And why are people NOT washing their hands at key times? Forgetfulness was #1, but 20% admitted they just didn’t think it was necessary, they were in a rush, or they didn’t want to end up with dry hands.
(I say: If you can scroll TikTok for an hour, you can find the time to wash for 20 seconds!)
(No time to wash? Don’t worry, norovirus will clear your schedule!)

DID YOU KNOW?
People who enjoy cleaning house are happier and more relaxed, according to the results of a survey done a few years ago. The poll, sponsored by Clorox, found that for each extra hour of time spent cleaning per week, the average respondent’s happiness increased by 53%. Regular cleaning was also associated with other positive health outcomes, including improved relaxation (indicated by 80% of respondents), heightened focus (77%), better sleep (72%), and increased productivity (72%). And the benefits of a clean home extended beyond those doing the cleaning: 60% of parents said their kids studied better when their room was clean, and about half indicated that their child was better-behaved. (Yeah, well I’d be 500% happier if someone ELSE did the cleaning for me!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “V-E Day”, Victory in Europe Day, generally known as V-E Day, or simply V Day, is the public holiday celebrated May 8 to mark the anniversary of the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces in 1945. That marked the end of World War II in Europe.
• “Give Someone a Cupcake Day”. Happiness is spread far and wide today when people give each other cupcakes. It doesn’t matter if they are store-bought or homemade, cupcakes always make a day better. (And like the old saying goes, “It’s impossible to be mad while holding a cupcake”!)
• “Have A Coke Day”, a day to enjoy a glass of ice-cold Coca-Cola (or 2). Fun fact: Cans of Coke first appeared in 1955. Some call it ‘soda’. In other parts, it’s called ‘pop,’ or ‘tonic’. (In my family, it’s called ‘mix’!) [***See ‘Today’s Firsts’, below***]
• “No Socks Day”, when we’re encouraged to avoid wearing socks, to feel less encumbered and to help the environment by creating less laundry. (I fail to see how not covering my feet will in any way help the environment!)
• “World Red Cross Day”, celebrating the 1828 birth of Jean Henri Dunant in Geneva, Switzerland, founder of the International Red Cross/Red Crescent.
• “Student Nurse Day”. As part of “National Nurses Week”, student nurses are honored today.
• “Coconut Cream Pie Day”. Whether vanilla, lemon, lime, peanut butter, banana, coconut or chocolate, find one today. And remember: It’s Gilligan’s favorite!
• “Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day”, shining a spotlight on the importance of caring for every child’s mental health and reinforcing that positive mental health is essential to a child’s healthy development.

BS WHEN MOM IS MAD . . .
• Never let her brush your hair.
• She stops speaking English and starts swearing in her mother tongue.
• You’d better hide all the slippers in the house.

• Do not, under any circumstances, ask her if it’s “that time of month”.
• She yells so loud that the neighbors brush THEIR teeth and go to bed.
• I have to come up from the basement and get my own snacks.
• Just tell her how pretty she is and hand her a glass of wine.

➠ Apple has once again been named the most valuable brand in the world. (…which explains why today, the U.S. Treasury announced it is replacing the dollar with the iTunes gift card…)
➠ It’s Mother’s Day this weekend, but it’s also National Cheeseburger Month. (Wow. That just goes to show our priorities: Moms get one day, but cheeseburgers get a whole month!)
➠ Monday kicked off Teacher Appreciation Week. (My favorite teaching movie is the one where the teacher uses unorthodox methods to inspire inner-city kids to believe in themselves. Which one is that? Oh yeah — all of them.)
➠ The price of oil fell well below $60 dollars a barrel. (As a result, the oil companies have announced they’ll be passing on the savings to us — in 6 or 7 years…)
➠ 73-year-old Bill Belichick and 24-year-old Jordon Hudson have started the wedding rumor mill, as she’s been seen wearing an engagement ring. (I heard she told potential wedding guests to wear white — but bring black, just in case…!)
