BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Nickelodeon has announced the nominees for the 2025 Kids’ Choice Awards. Leading the pack with 4 noms each are Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, and Selena Gomez. They’re followed by Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, and Jelly Roll, with 3 each.  First-time nominees include Gracie Abrams, Zach Bryan, Cynthia Erivo, Doechii, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, Shohei Ohtani, and Florence Pugh. Tyla will host the Kids’ Choice Awards, airing live on June 21.
-Deadline
★ Former “Dancing With the Stars” host Tom Bergeron is back to hosting dancing — but now with sharks. He’ll be hosting “Dancing With Sharks”. You heard that right. The “DWS” special will feature prominently in the Discovery Channel’s upcoming annual “Shark Week 2025.” Bergeron’s show will feature “the ultimate underwater thrill…an unprecedented dance competition between expert divers and their shark partners,” according to a release. Just like “DWTS,” there will be professional choreography. But with DWS, that training will come from a “world-class underwater choreographer.”
-USAToday
★ Gary Sinise might be retiring from acting — for good. The “Forest Gump” actor has been through a lot in his personal life after losing his son, Mac, to cancer in 2024. He said to People: “Something may come along and it’ll be right”, but these days, he prefers to be around his family, and “Since losing Mac, I hold my daughters a lot tighter. You think about the things that are really important.”
-Parade
★ Netflix is adding to its growing lineup of competition shows by rebooting “Star Search”, the old Ed McMahon-hosted talent show that was in syndication from 1983-95. The new version will spotlight performers in music, dance and variety/comedy. Kids will also be able to compete. Episodes will air twice weekly, with each live stream to include voting that will let the viewers determine which contestants move forward.
-Deadline
★ Adam Sandler took a moment to share a meaningful—and hilarious—goodbye to an iconic figure, paying tribute to Morris the alligator who starred in “Happy Gilmore”. Morris recently died at the Colorado Gator Farm. Sandler shared a still from the film on Instagram, and wrote: “Goodbye, Morris. We are all gonna miss you. You could be hard on directors, make-up artists, costumers – really anyone with arms or legs – but I know you did it for the ultimate good of the film.” He went on for several more sentences in similar style. HAIR, CARE, AND FLAIRBNB:
Airbnb has expanded its app to offer a wide range of local services – so now you can order up everything from a hairdresser, a massage, a private chef to a fitness trainer or photographer. In its effort to better compete with hotels, the platform has introduced bookable experiences and services in more than 260 cities worldwide – and you don’t even have to be a traveler to place an order. The idea is to make the app useful whether you’re at home or away. Airbnb is rolling out 10 new service categories, including hairdressers and caterers – but also experiences like horseback riding and museum tours. Airbnb said the move is based on user feedback—and it also meets the needs of hosts, many of whom already rely on cleaning and handyman services. The app has been redesigned to recommend services near your home — or wherever you’re staying, making it more of an everyday lifestyle tool than just a travel companion.
(So, finally, I can get the second “b” in their name [“Breakfast”] – but I have to hire a private chef to do it?)
(That’s great! Now I can book a cleaner so the host doesn’t charge me extra for not cleaning the room! Wait, what?)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A traffic camera in a Swiss town was triggered by a speed-limit-breaking duck – 7 years to the day after the same thing happened in the same spot — at the exact same speed. The Municipality of Koeniz said on social media that the speed camera was triggered April 13, and captured an image of a male duck traveling at 32mph in a 12mph zone. A similar-looking duck triggered the same camera on April 13, 2018, at the same speed. Officials speculated the 2 photos could show the same bird returning to the scene of his original traffic crime for a repeat offense. (Of COUSE he was speeding. At 12mph, he’d need a week to leave town!)
➢ A team of Purdue University students built a robot that can solve a Rubik’s cube in a record-breaking .103 seconds. The group of students at Purdue’s Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in West Lafayette IN met through a co-op program and got together to design their puzzle-solving bot, which they dubbed “Purdubik’s Cube.” In an article, one team member pointed out that while their machine can solve the puzzle in 103 milliseconds, “a human blink takes about 200 to 300 milliseconds. So, before you even realize it’s moving, we’ve solved it.” The previous record was .305 seconds — or 305 milliseconds. (Yeah? I bet I can still peel and move the stickers faster than it can!) DID YOU KNOW?
If you’re a walnut lover, you’ll be happy to know that this Saturday is “Walnut Day”. And you’ll be doubly happy to know that according to recent research, grabbing a handful of walnuts with breakfast might sharpen your thinking. But don’t expect an immediate memory boost. Scientists at the University of Reading did find that eating walnuts in the morning led to faster reaction times on complex thinking tasks throughout the day. Memory benefits, however, only appeared 6 hours after consumption. (So, if I eat walnuts now, I might finally understand my taxes by dinnertime?)

BS CHRONOMETER 05.16.25

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Bike to Work Day”, encouraging us to cycle to work, and to raise awareness of cyclists as they commute to and from work each day. (Current gas prices are all the encouragement I need . . .)
• “Biographers Day”, a great day to start reading or writing a biography. What would you call yours?
• “Love a Tree Day”, for tree-huggers everywhere. Trees are a good thing. They give us shade, comfort and shelter. They give off oxygen, too.
• “Mimosa Day”, celebrating the cocktail traditionally made with equal parts chilled orange juice and champagne, and served in a flute. It was originally created in 1925 at the Ritz Hotel in Paris.
• “Piercing Day”, a ‘Hole-y Holiday’ celebrating the practice of puncturing or cutting a part of the human body to create an opening in which jewelry can be worn. (You need another piercing like you need another hole in your head!)
• “International Day of Light”, the anniversary of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by physicist/engineer Theodore Maiman. The day celebrates the role light plays in science, culture and art, education, and sustainable development. This year’s theme: “Light, Innovation, Society”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mukux4h7
• “Wear Something Purple for Peace Day”, the first ‘intergalactic holiday’, as declared by a group called ‘The Moderns’, whose goal is to make the world a peaceful place and thereby encourage alien species to make contact.
• “Sea Monkey Day”, celebrating the amazing pet that comes alive when placed in water. ‘Sea-Monkeys’ is the brand name for brine shrimp sold in hatching kits as novelty aquarium pets in the US, Canada, and the UK since 1960.
• “Pizza Party Day”. Don’t question it. Just go with it…
• “Endangered Species Day”, to become educated about threats to species, success stories in species recovery, and the opportunity to promote species conservation. (Is the concept of ‘civil discourse’ considered an ‘endangered species’?)
• “NASCAR Day”, a celebration of NASCAR drivers, celebrities, corporate partners, media, and fans coming together to raise fund for charitable causes. Here are some BS FAKE NASCAR FACTS:
• Each time a driver passes ‘Go’, he collects $200.
• Drivers have the option of turning right.
• Every driver’s middle name is “Cooter”.
• All vehicle logos are ‘scratch and sniff’.
• You don’t watch it just for the crashes.
• Most of the jumpsuits worn by drivers are available at The Gap.
• It is possible to recreate the Daytona 500 at home by putting your dinky car collection into the toilet and flushing.
• Every car used in NASCAR races is an EV.
• Most drivers saved 15% or more on their car insurance by switching to Geico.
• It’s also fun to watch sober.

SATURDAY:
• “Pack Rat Day”, celebrating those who squirrel away all kinds of ‘stuff’. What’s the oddest thing you have, that you refuse to throw away? (But I might need those old soup cans someday!)
• “World Hypertension Day”, an annual observance to highlight the fact that stroke, heart, and kidney diseases caused by high blood pressure are preventable.
• “World Telecommunications Day”, a UN observance since 1969. The goal now is to raise awareness of the benefits that internet and other communication technologies can bring to societies and economies that don’t have it. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/34cmszb9
• “Pinot Grigio Day”. If you’ve never had this fine wine and want to know how it tastes, it’s been described as having a lighter-bodied flavor, with punchy acidity, and flavors of lemons, limes, green apples and honeysuckle. (…and it pairs well with MORE!)
• “Cherry Cobbler Day”, dedicated to the delicious tart dessert that many enjoy with ice cream.
• “Walnut Day”. Some Fun Walnut Facts:
⇒ Walnuts are the oldest known tree food, dating back to 10,000 BC!
⇒ 99% of the commercial US supply and 2/3 of the world trade of walnuts come from California.
⇒ Walnuts have always been considered important for their medicinal properties, including curing bad breath, reducing inflammation, and healing wounds.
⇒ The Greeks called walnuts ‘karyon’, meaning “head,” because the shell resembles a human skull and the walnut kernel itself looks like a brain! (***See “Did You Know”, above***)

SUNDAY:
• “Visit Your Relatives Day”, a day to renew relationships with seldom-seen relatives. Uh, maybe there’s a reason they are seldom seen?
• “No Dirty Dishes Day”. If nothing else, it’s a convenient excuse to order delivery…3 times.
• “HIV Vaccine Awareness Day”, promoting the continued urgent need for a vaccine to prevent HIV infection and AIDS.
• “Cheese Soufflé Day”, when we can all enjoy a little of this French delight. The word soufflé is the past participle of the French verb ‘souffler’, which means “to blow up” or “puff up.” Combine egg whites with custard, and it’ll puff up into a fine, golden soufflé when baked.
• “Speech Pathologist Day”. The field began growth in the 1920’s as professionals focused on treating soldiers returning from war. Now, you’ll find them in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, schools, early intervention settings, universities and private practices. Today, we recognize their awesome work.
• “International Museum Day”, established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums to draw attention to the world’s museums, no matter how large, small, or strange. Here are some truly odd ones:
– Air Sickness Bag Virtual Museum LINK: airsicknessbags.com
– Amsterdam Tattoo Museum (Amsterdam, Netherlands)
– Sulabh International Museum of Toilets (New Delhi, India)
– Bata Shoe Museum (Toronto ON)
– Burnt Food Museum (Arlington MA) LINK: burntfoodmuseum.com

– National Museum of Funeral History (Houston TX)
– Riceworld (Los Banos, Philippines)
– Cup Noodles Museum (Osaka, Japan)
– Insectarium de Montréal (Montréal QC)
– Vodka Museum (Moscow, Russia), with over 50,000 bottles on display. Visitors are offered 10 different types to taste (Then, they are poured home…)

MONDAY:
• “Victoria Day” in Canada, commemorating the birth of Queen Victoria (May 24, 1819), who reigned from 1837-1901. Although celebration of her birthday in Canada began in 1845, “Victoria Day” originated in 1901, after her death. Since 1952, it has been celebrated on the Monday preceding May 25th.
• “Boys & Girls Club Day”, saluting the efforts of those who create and maintain facilities for safe recreational activities for young people, which help teach values and citizenship.
• “Devil’s Food Cake Day”, enjoyed by chocolate cake lovers around the world. It differs from a regular chocolate cake by its darker color, and it tends to be more moist and airy (but it’s never around here long enough to notice that…)
• “World IBD Awareness Day”, to bring together those affected by Crohn’s and Colitis, as well as their friends and family members, and even those who knew nothing about them, in order to increase awareness.
• “May Ray Day”, a day for getting outside, soaking up the sun’s rays, and celebrating the warmer weather. May is the last full month of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, when it’s starting to warm up pretty nicely, but it’s not yet so scorching hot that you can’t stand being outside. (The mosquitos, however, are another thing entirely…)
• “Accounting Day”, to promote the profession and provide an opportunity for networking among accountants in public practice, industry, and government.
BS ACCOUNTANT JOKES:
☞ How can you tell if an accountant is extroverted?  He looks at YOUR shoes while he’s talking to you, instead of his own.
☞ Why do accountants look forward to the weekend? Because they can wear casual clothes to work.
☞ If an accountant’s wife can’t sleep, what does she say? “Darling, tell me about your work.”
☞ What’s the difference between an accountant and a lawyer? The accountant knows he’s boring.
