BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Tiger King” star Joe Exotic has revealed that he is battling prostate cancer. Although still in prison, he has gone to Twitter to update fans on his condition. In a post, he wrote “My body is tired, I have lost a tremendous amount of weight, the mouth sores are out of control, I throw up more than I eat.” He says the prison has approved testing to verify what stage it is in. Exotic then went on to discuss his ongoing battle with trying to get pardoned.

★ Tawny Kitaen was just about to launch her career as an online talk show host when she died earlier this month. The model, actress and video vixen passed away on May 7, just 10 days after a Manic-TV appearance, which served as the pilot for her new show “Tawny’s Tales”. Manic was confident Kitaen’s weekly show would be a huge hit and lure viewers to its YouTube channel, and hoped that one of her guests would be ex-husband and Whitesnake singer David Coverdale, whose 1980s videos for the hits ‘Here I Go Again’ and ‘Is This Love’ featured Kitaen in a starring role.

★ Robert De Niro’s injury won’t affect production on “Killers of the Flower Moon”. He hurt his leg at his home in Oklahoma – where he is living while filming Martin Scorsese’s upcoming thriller alongside Leonardo Dicaprio – and has travelled to New York for treatment. Fortunately, De Niro isn’t due back on set for three weeks, so the incident will not delay production. According to his representative, the 77-year-old De Niro injured his quadriceps muscle.

★ Last week, it was announced that “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” would be ending after the upcoming nineteenth season, which will wrap in 2022. Of course, there has already been some discussion over who will be taking host Ellen’s place as the queen of daytime television. According to Page Six, Tiffany Haddish is the “favorite” to take over for DeGeneres with a talk show of her own. Other sources have placed Kelly Clarkson as the frontrunner.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Lollapalooza – The city of Chicago has given the green light for the festival this summer. The 4-day event, planned for Grant Park July 29-Aug. 1, will be the first major festival to be held in the U.S. since the fall of 2019. Reportedly, organizers have the go-ahead for the event to happen at near-to or full-capacity. An official announcement is expected this week.
• Nicki Minaj – is obsessed with “The Crown”. The unlikely superfan posted an open letter on her website, saying she has “watched every single episode of every single season at least 5 times each.”
• Twenty One Pilots — will perform their current single ‘Shy Away’ at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards this Sunday. The song, from the duo’s upcoming album “Scaled and Icy”, was released April 7, and quickly became their 8th #1 hit on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart.
• Janet Jackson — The military style jacket she wore during her 1990 “Rhythm Nation” tour sold for $81,250 at a Beverly Hills auction on Friday, more than 20 times its pre-sale estimate. The jacket, with metal hardware, was one of the highlights of a 3-day sale of her stage costumes and memorabilia.
• The Tragically Hip – will reunite at the Juno Awards, with singer Feist on vocals. The group will perform on TV for the first time since the 2017 death of frontman Gord Downie. The Hip will also receive the Humanitarian Award at the June 6 ceremony, from Rush members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, who also lost a bandmate to brain cancer, drummer Neil Peart.
• Mötley Crüe – Their planned stadium tour with Poison, Joan Jett and Def Leppard has been postponed, again. The 4 legendary acts were originally due to kick off a run of stadium shows in summer 2020 but were forced to move all dates to 2021 because of the pandemic. Late last week, it was announced the tour has been pushed back again, to 2022.
• Bruce Springsteen – his 21st studio album is “coming out soon” and it will see his focus return to the American West. He made the reveal while speaking virtually at a ceremony where he was presented with the Woody Guthrie Prize, for exemplifying “Guthrie’s spirit and work by speaking for the less fortunate.”
• Maren Morris & Miranda Lambert – lead the list of nominees for the CMT Music Awards, with 4 nods each. Hosts Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini, along with Little Big Town and Mickey Guyton all have 3. The CMT Awards take place on June 9.
• Luke Bryan – is one of several acts, along with Carrie Underwood, Céline Dion and Katy Perry, with a residency booked at Resorts World Las Vegas, which will open this summer. His first engagement will consist of 6 shows beginning Feb. 11, 2022. The 5,000-seat concert space there features the largest performance stage in Vegas, and Bryan says “it’s going to be fun” dreaming up a unique show experience.
• Garth Brooks – Trisha Yearwood, his wife of 15 years says the one thing that surprised her most about him was that he really is that nice. Quote: “For a long time I really thought, ‘Nobody’s this nice.’ The other shoe’s gotta drop, you know? And I’m not saying he’s perfect, but he’s pretty dang close!”

SHOOTING THE BULL

A NOVEL NOVEL CORONAVIRUS VACCINE:
An experimental ‘universal vaccine’ could offer protection against Covid variants, as well as other coronaviruses—and maybe even the ones responsible for the common cold. And it can be made on the cheap. In animal studies, the COVID vaccine protected pigs against 2 separate diseases caused by different types of coronavirus, one of which was COVID-19, according to results published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. These results represent a “great opportunity to develop universal coronavirus vaccines,” according to Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. The experimental vaccine is based on genetically modified bacteria, which can be mass-produced at a fraction of the cost of currently approved COVID-19 vaccines. For example, the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine now in use costs about $10 a dose, a price that can be prohibitive in developing countries. But bacteria-based vaccines for cholera and pertussis can be brewed for less than $1 a dose.
(Well, it sounds like it’s worth a shot!)
(I don’t want to sound like a snob, but when it comes to getting a vaccine, I don’t necessarily WANT the cheapest one!)
(The only problem with a bacteria-based vaccine: Side effects include yeast infections…)

POSITIONS IN BED:
One worry during the pandemic for many has been getting enough sleep. Here’s something else to worry about, especially if you ARE getting enough sleep – If you sleep on your stomach, it’s aging you prematurely. Dermatologist Dr. Bruce Robinson says stomach sleepers (and to an extent, side-sleepers) create a friction between the face and the pillow that can add years to your face in the form of wrinkles. Stomach sleepers in particular also tend to develop more forehead lines. Side sleepers may be more prone to deeper wrinkles or creases on the sides of their faces, and creases on the cheeks and chin. That pretty much only leaves the sleeping on the back as an alternative, and the doctor says doing so not only lets you avoid that skin friction, but also keeps bacteria on the pillow from coming in contact with your face. But if you do, be sure to slightly elevate your head, or fluid will gather around your eyes, leading to puffiness the next day.
(And you’ll snore, leading to pillow contact with your face…courtesy of your partner!)
(One more alternative…sleeping on the couch…but it turns out that’s not so good for the back!)
(I’m starting to understand how “Rip Van Wrinkle” got his name!)

MONEY LAUNDERING:
A woman says she accidentally destroyed her $26 million lottery ticket in the wash. The winning ticket for the Nov. 14 drawing of California’s SuperLotto Plus was sold at an AM/PM convenience store in the Los Angeles suburb of Norwalk…and Thursday was the last day to redeem it. No one did, but according to a store employee, a woman came in on Wednesday and claimed that she had put the ticket in her pants pocket and it was destroyed in the laundry. The store’s manager says they have turned surveillance video over to California Lottery officials, which shows a woman buying the winning ticket.
(Isn’t the old saying “You can’t win without a ticket”?)
(So, she might turn out to be a winner…AND a loser!)
(I guess it’s worth taking a chance…)

DID YOU KNOW?
Madame Tussauds in London has revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s waxworks are – just like their real-life counterparts — beginning a new chapter among the Hollywood elite. In 2020, the pair’s statues were moved away from Queen Elizabeth and the rest of Britain’s royal family following their decision to step down from official duties. Now, with the museum reopening today following a long closure due to Covid-19, visitors will find the Duke and Duchess of Sussex rubbing elbows with real-life celebrity friends Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Victoria and David Beckham and George Clooney, plus other A-listers like Brad Pitt, Dwayne Johnson and Nicole Kidman in the museum’s “Awards Party” zone.
