★ Filmmaker David Lynch has announced that Showtime’s revival of his cult TV show “Twin Peaks” is a go after a month-long impasse over budget constraints. Lynch will direct the new series, which will total more than the originally announced 9 hours. Production on the series is set to begin immediately. “Twin Peaks” originally aired for 2 seasons on ABC-TV, followed by the 1992 feature film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me”. Original cast members Dana Ashbrook, Kyle Maclachlan, and Sheryl Lee are expected to reprise their roles in the redo.

★ R&B singer Deborah Cox is set to step into Whitney Houston’s 1992 role in “The Bodyguard” in an upcoming North American theater tour. Cox reworked Houston’s hits for the soundtrack of the TV biopic “Whitney”, which aired in January featuring Yaya DaCosta in the title role. Now Cox is preparing to tackle the late diva’s biggest hits live. The stage musical version of “The Bodyguard” was a hit in 2012 when it opened in London’s West End, starring Heather Headley. Cox made her Broadway debut in a 2004 production of “Aida”.

★ George Clooney’s longtime Hollywood pal Julia Roberts and his new wife Amal Clooney have hit it off after a recent low-key get-together. Clooney wed the British lawyer last September but has only just now found time to introduce his bride to his one-time onscreen wife Roberts (“Ocean’s Eleven”). Clooney & Roberts are currently filming the drama “Money Monster” together. Clooney quote: “It was so much fun to have her meet my wife and have both of them be such good friends.” Clooney next stars in “Tomorrowland”, opening this Friday.

• Jefferson Airplane – Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen is hoping for a 50th anniversary celebration, even though the group hasn’t hit a stage together since 1989 and singer Grace Slick is retired. The guitarist is optimistic about an onstage discussion/demonstration using acoustic guitars.
• Mariah Carey – Today her new label, Epic, releases “Mariah Carey #1 To Infinity”, a compilation album of her #1 hits that made her the best-selling female artist of all-time. The chronological collection includes all 18 of her Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles, plus one extra song.
• Miranda Lambert – She tells “Country Living” magazine she’s been researching on Pinterest how to create the perfect pooch pad for her 15 beloved rescue mutts. She and husband Blake Shelton are in the midst of building a new house in Tishomingo OK.
• Prince – He & his all-female band 3rdeyegirl, featuring Mississauga ON guitarist Donna Grantis, are playing Toronto’s Sony Centre on Tuesday as part of his “HitnRun” tour of North America. Tickets for the last minute show go on sale today.

HOW TO STORE FOODS:
Storing your foods properly will help cut down wastage, help you save money, and ensure you don’t get sick. Recommended storage for various foods …
• Place soft berries in a vented container and store in a fridge drawer.
• Make cut or halved fruit last longer by covering it in plastic wrap.
• Potatoes, onions, and garlic should be stored in a dark, cool environment.
• Wrap cheeses in parchment if you don’t want them to go moldy.
• Always store asparagus standing upright in water.
• Avocados can ripen on the counter top; then go into the fridge where they’ll keep for 4 days.
• It seems counterintuitive but the blacker the banana, the better it is for you.
• Enjoy grapes for up to 2 weeks by keeping them in the fridge in a perforated plastic bag.
• Pears are best kept on a counter top for up to 4 days, after which they can become mushy.
• Tomatoes don’t have to be refrigerated. Just remember to take off all the packaging.
• Beets and bell peppers can both be stored in plastic bags on a fridge shelf.
• Celery should never be stored in plastic. Instead wrap it in foil and pop it in the crisper.
• Pre-packaged cold cuts will stay fresh for 2 weeks in the fridge, but only if unopened.
