Another Sheetload of Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Taylor Swift doesn’t exactly ooze sex appeal, but “Maxim” magazine has given her top spot on its annual ‘Hot List’ anyway, beating out the likes of sexy singers Beyoncé, Katy Perry, and Rihanna. New editor Kate Lanphear says the “Maxim” definition of ‘hot’ has been changed to include more than beauty. It’s now about brains and relevance as well. Swift is having a fantastic week … cleaning up at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards, and opening her North American tour tonight.

★ “Mad Max: Fury Road” director George Miller has confirmed he is already planning a follow-up film to the recently released reboot of the action franchise. The film, starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, just opened in cinemas over the weekend but Miller is already eyeing a sequel called “Mad Max: The Wasteland”. The new storyline came together during the numerous delays while shooting “Fury Road”. Millers says all the backstories just came together and expanded. “Mad Max: Fury Road” surpassed $110 million in worldwide box office during its opening weekend.

★ And it seems Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa are getting into a new biz – DJing – and they’re charging a lot for rank amateurs. We’re told they’ve been inspired by Snoop’s foray into spinning and they’ve now set their price: Wayne will play your songs for $60,000 and Khalifa is asking a more reasonable $25,000. Of course, they’re also demanding the usual perks, including First Class air travel and VIP treatment. Wiz is even using a new name … DJ Daddy Cat. Their first appearance is at Anaheim CA hot spot Heat Ultra Lounge.

BS THINGS NO ONE TELLS YOU ABOUT HAVING A 2ND CHILD:
✓ In the daytime your older kid will wake your baby; in the nighttime your baby will wake your older kid.
✓ Diaper changes need to be lightning fast as you can’t leave your eldest unsupervised for long.
✓ Even if your older kid really likes the baby, he/she will probably say something like, “When is it going back?” at least once.
✓ You now have very little room in your shopping cart for actual groceries.
✓ Finding a babysitter isn’t as easy as it was before.
✓ Getting 2 kids to look at the camera at the same time is nearly impossible.
✓ Getting ready to leave home takes so long that it almost doesn’t seem worth leaving at all.
✓ If you have a boy & a girl, people will ask you if you’re ‘done’; if you have 2 of the same sex, people will ask if you’re ‘going to go for a girl/boy’.
✓ Nothing in the world will ever sound as sweet to you as your 2 kids laughing together.

OH LOOK, A CASTLE!
While studying how mobile technology has affected our attention span, Microsoft researchers in Canada have found that our ability to focus on something specific is shortening. The study used EEG, a non-invasive method of recording brain activity, while participants completed surveys and mind games. The results suggest the average attention of an adult is now just 8 seconds, down from 12 seconds the last time Microsoft conducted a similar study (2000). And that puts the human attention span at 1 second shorter than that of … a goldfish. While heavy technology users are shown to be better at multitasking, it seems they now struggle to focus in environments where prolonged attention is needed. (Such as face-to-face conversation.)

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical look at who we are and the things we do …
• 65% of households still have an old fashioned answering machine.
• 62% of us claim to know how to change a flat tire even though we’ve never done it.
• 53% of men admit they’ve pretended to like a woman’s cat while in a relationship with her.
• 25% of women wear makeup when exercising.
• 13% of married people have checked their spouses’ browser history without them knowing.
• 11% of women have turned down a date with a man because he had too many tattoos.

HAPPY:
Most kids are happy regardless of material wealth, according to a new survey of over 50,000 8-to-12 year-olds in 15 countries by researchers at Germany’s Goethe University. The “2015 Children’s Worlds Report” delves into many aspects of kids’ lives, including home life, friendships, possessions, school life, and even views on children’s rights. Norway has the highest marks in access to material things; knowing their rights as children; and having those rights respected by adults. But this didn’t make them the happiest; they rank 6th in satisfaction behind Romania, Colombia, Israel, Algeria, and Turkey. Some of these may not be countries you’d think of as ‘happy’, but researchers note that children tend to be more optimistic about life. (Before zits, mortgages, and unemployment.)

BS BUZZWORDS:
Cutting-edge vocab …
• ‘Herd Misogyny’ – Hatred toward or harassment of women perpetrated by a group of males.
• ‘No-Drone Zone’ – An area over which drones or similar unpiloted aerial vehicles are prohibited to fly.
• ‘Plyscraper’ – A skyscraper made mainly from wood. Christchurch NZ welcomed its first multi-story timber structure this year; there are plans for Vancouver BC; and China could follow.

THE 5 FITTEST MEN OF ALL-TIME:
5. Michael Phelps – His dominance of the 2008 Olympic Games was a once-in-a-lifetime feat to witness. Nobody’s likely to break the US swimmer’s record of 22 Olympic medals – including 18 golds – anytime soon.
4. Jack LaLanne – Now called the ‘godfather of fitness’, all modern gyms descend from the one he opened in 1936 at 21-years-old. He then went on to write now-classic books on fitness and host the longest-running fitness TV show ever, “The Jack LaLanne Show” (1951-85).
3. Arnold Schwarzenegger – There’s hardly a realm of American life the Terminator-turned-Governator hasn’t conquered, yet despite movie and political careers his most impressive feats remain in the gym … Mr Universe at age 20; Mr Olympia 7 times.
2. Bruce Lee – Arguably the most influential martial artist of all-time, he stood just 5-7 and weighed as little as 125 lbs. When Lee was at his leanest his waist measured just 26 inches, thanks to his extreme training regimen.
1. Rich Froning Jr – The winner of the CrossFit Games is deemed ‘fittest man alive’ for good reason: The Games throw a brutal variety of fitness tasks at competitors, testing strength, power, and endurance. Froning has won The Games not once … but the last 4 years in-a-row.
