Bully For You!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★Some fast facts regarding Sir Roger Moore, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 89:
• Moore was also known for TV series ‘The Persuaders’ and ‘The Saint’.
• He played the famous spy in seven Bond films including ‘Live and Let Die’ and ‘A View to a Kill’.
• He was the third actor to play James Bond in the movie series, following Sean Connery and George Lazenby.
• Many of the Bond movies Moore appeared in are considered among the best Bond movies and he is currently the longest-serving James Bond.
• Sir Roger was also well known for his humanitarian work – he was introduced to Unicef by the late Audrey Hepburn and was appointed as a goodwill ambassador in 1991.
• He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for “services to charity”.
• He was married 4 times, including to Kristina Tholstrup for the last 15 years of his life.
In a 2012 interview, Moore praised Connery as the person who created Bond but also gave kudos to Daniel Craig, saying: “Now they’ve found the Bond — Daniel Craig…. I always said Sean played Bond as a killer and I played Bond as a lover. I think that Daniel Craig is even more of a killer. He has this superb intensity; he’s a glorious actor.”

★ “The Backpack Kid” who stole the show during Katy Perry’s SNL performance has also taken her thunder on social media. Russell Horning, who went from Instagram dancing sensation to viral star after Katy Perry invited him to show off his moves during her “Saturday Night Live” performance, wasn’t too impressed with Perry’s dancing. His caption on a video of her trying to imitate his moves backstage read: “When your mom tries to look cool.”

★ Zack Snyder is stepping down from directing ‘Justice League’. Snyder and his wife Deborah, also a producer on the film, are taking time away to deal with a family tragedy. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder revealed that his 20-year-old daughter, Autumn, died by suicide in March. Snyder said he found returning to work untenable and has asked Joss Whedon to come aboard to oversee the rest of the film. The film is slated for a Nov. 17, 2017 release.(http://ew.com)
★ If you plan to see ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ when it opens tomorrow, stick around to the very end of the credits to see a bonus scene — one that also teases a possible sixth installment in the fantasy adventure franchise.
★ “Hollywood Medium” Tyler Henry gave a cryptic reading to Alan Thicke just three months before the actor’s death. Thicke was a skeptic when he agreed to have a reading done for the show. The episode, which will air May 31, shows Henry deliver a message from the other side warning Thicke to keep an eye on his heart.
★ Jim Carrey’s beard is ”a bigger star” than he is now. The 55-year-old actor has claimed his facial hair is constantly the topic of conversation and ”everywhere” he goes people are talking about his impressive facial fuzz. The Hollywood funny man has claimed his bush even has its own social media account. (He should hang out with Letterman!)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Katy Perry – Her $25 million deal to be the lead judge on “American Idol” wasn’t just for her — she says she’s struck a blow for women everywhere who’ve been underpaid to do the same job as a man. Perry says that she’s proud that her fat paycheck is more than “pretty much” any man made before her. (Reality check: Although Perry’s big payday beats a lot of previous judges, she still comes up short compared to Simon Cowell’s estimated $45 million A.I. payday)
• Miley Cyrus – wants to give Ariana Grande a ‘great big hug’ after 22 people were killed and 119 were injured in a suspected terrorist attack after her gig at Manchester Arena on Monday evening. Miley has passed on her ‘love’ to her showbiz pal via a heartfelt Instagram post. The two have been friends for more than four years.
• Guns N’ Roses – have beefed up security for their concert in Ireland this weekend following the bombing at an Ariana Grande show in Manchester that left 22 dead. Saturday’s concert at Slane Castle will see more than 400 police and 1,200 security team members patrolling the area.
• Duran Duran – were among the host of celebrities who flocked to social media to pay tribute to Sir Roger Moore following his death. Duran Duran who recorded the title song to Moore’s 1985 007 film ‘A View To A Kill’.
• Soundgarden – their album ‘Louder Than Love’ inspired Metallica’s biggest song. Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett says that when he heard the Soundgarden album, he was inspired to write big heavy riffs in the same style. One of them became ‘Enter Sandman’, which became a million-selling single and a fixture at sports arenas.
• Van Halen – Former manager Noel Monk will release his new book “Running with the Devil,” in July. Expect stories of hotel room destruction, outrageous backstage behavior and insights on Eddie Van Halen’s marriage to Valerie Bertinelli. (This is new information?)
• Trisha Yearwood – sang the U.S. National Anthem the night the Nashville Predators clinched their first-ever trip to the NHL Stanley Cup finals. Other country stars in attendance? Kelsea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Brett Eldredge, Thomas Rhett and Carrie Underwood were all in Smashville to witness the historic night.
COMING ATTRACTIONS:
• “Angry Birds 2” – A sequel to last year’s animated film will hit theaters on Sept. 20, 2019, a release date coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the original mobile gaming app. It will open ahead of Universal’s animated adventure Everest and a Warner Bros. event film, both of which debut the following week.
• “Untitled Social Thriller” – After signing Jordan Peele to a deal following the success of his directorial debut, ‘Get Out’, Universal has dated his next film for March 15, 2019. Currently untitled, the movie’s plot details are being kept under wraps. Peele will write, direct, and produce based on his original idea.
• “Resident Evil” – More details are leaking out on the Resident Evil franchise reboot. James Wan has come aboard to produce the first in a new series of Resident Evil films from a script by Greg Russo. Word is that it will have an entirely new cast.
• “Untitled Meme Movie” – After a dramatic negotiation session at the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix has nabbed a film project pairing Rihanna with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, in a concept that began as a Twitter sensation. The project began as an online meme when a photo of the two women in the front row of a fashion show went viral, prompting calls to turn it into a movie. (Sounds like a better meme than a movie…)
A CUPPA COAL?
If you’re looking for a new and interesting way to enjoy your daily cup of java, try dumping a lump of hot coal into it. The trick worked for a small coffee shop owner in Indonesia who has become famous for his sizzling charcoal coffee. It’s called “Kopi Joss” and it was apparently invented back in the 1960s, by a man to help him deal with a troubled stomach. How a red-hot coal dropped into your coffee is supposed to help your stomach, I’ll never know, but whatever.
Initially sold for its medicinal properties, today the “Kopi” is mainly sold as a novelty for tourists, but Mr. Alex, who owns the coffee shop claims that it can help alleviate bloating, nausea, heartburn and diarrhea. Kopi joss, or charcoal coffee, starts off as regular ground coffee. Then four spoons of sugar and boiling water are added. Then, Mr. Alex picks up a lump of red hot coal with his tongs and dumps that into the glass as well. Once the coal cools, you can take it out of the coffee and enjoy the drink. Some say that it tastes the same as regular java, others claim that it has a slight taste of caramel, because the hot coal burns the sugar added to the coffee. A glass will set you back just 30 cents. Analysis has shown that “Kopi Joss” has less caffeine than your traditional cuppa, because some of it is absorbed by the coal. So the only ‘kick’ you will get from this coffee might be from being able to say that you drank a cup of ‘coal-fired’ coffee.
(Upset stomach? I’ll stick to ginger ale and crackers, thanks.)
(Please, please, please don’t let Starbucks get hold of this idea!)
(Is this coal yours? Or is this coal mine?)

HOW TO ASK FOR A RAISE:
If you want one, you’ve got to ask for one. Here are some tips:
○ BE PATIENT: You can’t expect to be given a raise every time you hit a new goal—and you could wear out your boss by asking too soon. A good rule of thumb? Wait for the one-year mark of when you were hired or last promoted. (Or last got ‘called up on the carpet…’)
○ MAKE YOUR CASE: Yes, you should ask—but you should also persuade. If your company doesn’t offer an annual review, ask if you can have one. Use that meeting to provide the reasons you deserve a raise. Outline your accomplishments over the year, point out the ways you’ve gone above your job description, and highlight the projects you want to take on in the future that also go beyond your official duties.
○ ASK FOR FEEDBACK: Be confident, but also be willing to accept criticism. In fact, you should ask for it. If you request an honest assessment of your performance, it will show your boss you’re serious about your role on the team.
○ HAVE A NUMBER IN MIND: Don’t just ask for a raise in general—specify the increase you would like, either in dollars or in terms of percentage. And make it clear you’ve done your research. Ask mentors or check out career sites to see what others in comparable positions earn. If you’re being underpaid, show that you know it—diplomatically.
○ DON’T BRING IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE: Keep it professional. You may need extra money to cover unexpected expenses, but your boss doesn’t need to hear that. Raises are given out based on merit and your impact on the company, not life circumstances. Keep the conversation business-focused.
○ BE GRACIOUS: Remember to thank your boss for her time. She has plenty of other things going on and the meeting and subsequent follow-up will take up precious hours of her day. And if she says no, don’t be discouraged. Express that you understand—and ask if you can have another performance review in six months rather than a year.
