Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
✳ Maybe this Summer movie season isn’t too crowded after all. “Fast & Furious 6”, “Iron Man 3”, “Star Trek Into Darkness” and a handful of other hits have made this a record-breaking May, and the Summer box office is off to its best start ever. With more than $1.04 billion in grosses already, the month has topped the previous record of $1.03 billion in May 2011, according to stats from BoxOffice.com. (May 2011 brought us “The Hangover Part II”, “Pirates Of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”, and “Bridesmaids” among other blockbusters.)

✳ Brit filmmaker Sam Mendes is in talks to helm a 2nd ‘James Bond’ movie following the massive success of “Skyfall”, the most successful ‘007’ movie of all-time ($1.1 billion worldwide). The Oscar-winning director (“American Beauty”) is reportedly considering starting production on the 24th ‘Bond’ movie next year after he wraps work on his stage musical version of “Charlie & The Chocolate Factory” and a new staging of “King Lear”. (Big ‘Bond’ bucks make his play productions possible.)
– Deadline.com
✳ Today at the Hay Festival of Literature & Arts in Wales, British fashion model Lily Cole hosts a discussion on the cruel practice of using squalene, oil extracted from the livers of endangered sharks, to make high-end face creams. The eco-warrior, known for her support of animal rights issues, is calling for a ban on shark liver oil in all skincare products. Bloom, a marine conservation advocacy group, says 3 million sharks are killed each year to benefit the cosmetics industry. (When’s the last time a model addressed a festival of literature & arts?)
– “Times of London”
✳ 43-year-old Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has slashed prices on his NYC apartment and NJ estate as neither property has attracted a buyer. The price tag for his West 66th Street Manhattan apartment is down $600,000 to $7.99 million, and his Alpine NJ mansion has been reduced by a staggering $3.6 million to $9.99 million. Not to worry that he’s going broke though; his fortune is estimated at $580 million. He’s just trying offload the excess real estate as he’s spending most of his time at his $30-million Miami mansion. (Sooooo much money … and for what?)
– NYPost.com
✳ And a new  E-Score poll on the best beach bodies among celebrities is topped by Channing Tatum (“Magic Mike”) and Olivia Wilde (ex-“House”). Actor/model Shemar Moore ranked 2nd among men, followed by Jason Statham. Among famous females, Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima was #2, followed by “Dancing With the Stars” co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet. (Missing in action: John Goodman, Melissa McCarthy.)

• Keith Urban – He’s set to release “Fuse”, his 1st new album in close to 3 years, on September 10th. Urban’s 7th studio release has been nearly a year in the making.
• Kenny Chesney – He’s sold more concert tickets than any other artist over the past 10 years, according to new stats from Pollstar: 9.8 million tickets, grossing $608.6 million. That’s well ahead of runner-up Bruce Springsteen, with 5.5 million tickets worth $460.5 million.
• Nine Inch Nails – Columbia Records has signed the re-launched band and a new studio album is expected later this year. Trent Reznor says they’ve secretly been working on the project which is now finished and, quote: “Frankly f—ing great.”
• Paul McCartney – He left a personalized guitar pick on Elvis Presley’s grave during his first-ever visit to Graceland over the weekend. He was visiting Memphis TN as part of his “Out There Tour”.
• Rolling Stones – Mick Taylor tells “Mojo” magazine he spent more than a month in rehab before reuniting with his old band for 3 of their 50th anniversary shows. The veteran guitarist hints he was ordered to shape up before he’d be welcomed back.
• Stone Temple Pilots – They’ve filed a breach of contract lawsuit against fired frontman Scott Weiland claiming his erratic behavior interfered with their 2012 tour. It’s said he was repeatedly late for concerts, refused to commit to more gigs, and caused the loss of lucrative opportunities.

COMING ATTRACTIONS:
A BS selection of movies in the making …
• “Beware the Night” – Eric Bana is set to star in this Jerry Bruckheimer-produced supernatural thriller. The story follows an NYPD street cop who has relinquished religion only to find he’s being targeted by the devil in the form of a possessed soldier, played by Sean Harris (“The Borgias”). “Community” star Joel McHale is in final negotiations to also join the cast.
• “Big Eyes” – Christoph Waltz & Amy Adams are starring in Tim Burton’s comedic drama about the relationship between real-life painting couple Walter & Margaret Keane, who rose to prominence in the 1950s and ‘60s with their popular paintings of big-eyed children. After their 1965 divorce, they tangled in a decades-long dispute over who actually painted the pictures.
• “Guardians Of the Galaxy” – Actor John C Reilly has reportedly been offered the role of ‘Rhomann Dey’ in Marvel’s upcoming sci-fi superhero movie. Directed by James Gunn, the film will be set entirely in space, and will star Chris Pratt as ‘Star-Lord’ (aka ‘Peter Quill’) & Zoe Saldana as superhuman vixen ‘Gamora’. The movie is due for release next year.
• “Rodham” – James Ponsoldt’s bio-film will focus on Hillary Rodham Clinton’s younger years, specifically 1974, when she was a Washington DC lawyer. Insiders say it’s most likely the lead role will go to Jessica Chastain, Reese Witherspoon, or Scarlett Johansson. The film’s due out some time around the 2016 US presidential election, in which Clinton could be a candidate.
• “Transformers 4” – Stand-up comedian-turned-actor TJ Miller (“The Goodwin Games”) is in negotiations to join Michael Bay’s latest installment of the action-adventure series. The cast is already led by Mark Wahlberg, with Nicola Peltz playing his daughter, and Jack Reynor as her race car-driving boyfriend. The movie will shoot in China and the USA this Summer.

TAKING IT SLOW:
Anyone who’s seen a slow motion video of a dog drinking water, rubber bands breaking a watermelon, or footballs in faces knows the age-old proverb: Slo-mo makes everything better. And what’s the best way to make slo-mo better? Let everyone make their own slo-mo video on YouTube. To create one, visit the ‘Enhancements’ tool or the ‘YouTube Editor’ and apply it to one of your existing videos. You’ll get a smooth, slo-mo video that makes it look like it was filmed with a high-speed camera. (Rihanna’s going to be all over this.)

BEACH HAIR IS RIDING THE WAVE:
So-called ‘Beach Hair’, once an unavoidable result of Summer weather and activities, has taken on a certain artfulness. The tousled, tawny, done-to-look-undone wavy hairdo is said to be THE look for women this Summer … even if you’re nowhere near a beach. One fan describes it as the ‘I was surfing in Costa Rica for a month’ look. It’s popularity may be partly because it’s unfussy and low-maintenance. So is it just messy hair? Oh no, stylists say it’s ‘a better version’. (BS translation: It’s not Beach Hair [aka Bedhead] until you’ve paid 85 bucks.)

DRUNK ON JAVA:
Coffee-drinkers, beware! Your caffeine habit could induce a temporary mental disorder. The new edition of mental health manual “DSM-5” lists ‘Caffeine Intoxication’ as a new psychiatric disorder. The telltale signs: Restlessness, nervousness, excitement, red face, gastrointestinal upset, muscle twitching, rambling speech, sleeplessness, rapid and irregular heartbeat. A combination of 5 or more of these symptoms during or shortly after consuming caffeine are an indication of caffeine intoxication. The syndrome is said to cause distress and impair the drinker’s ability to function. (Ironically, that’s why you have a coffee in the first place.)

FOR THE RECORD:
The world’s largest flag has been unfurled at an airfield south of Bucharest, Romania. The 5-ton banner took weeks to sew using 70 km (44 miles) of thread. It took 200 people several hours to roll out the flag, which measures 349 x 227 meters (1,145 x 745 feet), about 3 times the size of a football field. The red, yellow, and blue Romanian flag covers an area of 79,290 square meters (853,478 square feet). An adjudicator for Guinness World Records measured the standard before officially pronouncing it the world’s biggest. (Almost big enough to blanket Rosie O’Donnell.)

BS HORRIBLESCOPES:
Use ‘em all at once or one-at-a-time as the zodiac reading of the day …
• Aries – Love will no longer be just another 4-letter-word to you today. It will also be your average score at the tennis club … loser.
• Taurus – You may never find what you’re looking for but at least you managed to find that velvet painting of a chimp sitting on a toilet reading a newspaper. Congrats!
• Gemini – Ignore those who laugh at your sense of style. They’re just jealous …. snort!
• Cancer – Today you will invent a new type of automated squid sorter for use by professional squid fishers. You will call it the ‘Squid Pro Quo’. That will be a mistake.
• Leo – Just as small peppers are supposed to be the hottest, there may be a tiny person who’s ready to heat up your life. Unfortunately, it’s likely a dwarf with a Molotov cocktail.
• Virgo – Stinky feet day today. Best not to go to a Japanese restaurant.
• Libra – The word ‘wobble’ might mean something to you today that it simply hasn’t meant before. Time for a truss?
• Scorpio – You will discover that you have the power to go home simply by tapping together the heels of your bunny slippers. Awesome, superhero!
• Sagittarius – The Sun does not wear a hat. Purple clouds are not usual. Nor is red rain. You really must stop pretending the pictures your niece draws for you are real.
• Capricorn – You shouldn’t wear that cologne … too much musk! But if you must, bring along a few carrots for the moose.
• Aquarius – You will be a winner today. Pick a fight with a 4-year-old.
• Pisces – Love may come your way this week, but if it doesn’t you can at least console yourself with the fact that you haven’t made a complete fool of yourself. That happens next week. Enjoy!
