BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Britney Spears says she was robbed at home. In an Instagram video, she alleged that “all” her jewelry was stolen. The clip shows her opening and closing a jewelry box that was mostly empty. She explains: “There’s nothing. Well, there’s a Mother Mary. … I’m scared. It’s all gone. All my jewelry is gone.” A spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said on Monday that they hadn’t “received any calls for service regarding any reports of theft from Spears’ residence.” Despite the alleged burglary, Spears posted a video shortly afterward in which she appeared in good spirits, claiming in one that she “dropped 12 sizes” and wrote in another that she wants a tongue piercing.

★ Johnny Wactor, best known for his work on “General Hospital,” died early Saturday. The 37-year-old’s mother told TMZ he was shot and killed in downtown LA, as part of an attempted robbery. Wactor and a friend saw 3 men attempting to remove the catalytic converter from his car, and although the actor didn’t attempt to stop them, he was shot as they left the scene. Wactor left “General Hospital” in 2022 after his character ‘Brando Corbin’ was killed off.

★ “Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg has applied for Polish citizenship. In an interview with a Polish publication, he said he applied for it 9 months ago and is now “waiting for the final signature.” Eisenberg explained that his family is from Poland, and so is that of his wife Anna Strout, and they want to “have a greater connection to Poland”, and he’d like to do more of his work there.

★ Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Vivienne appears to have dropped the “Pitt” from her last name. In the Playbill for the new musical “The Outsiders”, which Vivienne helped her mom Jolie produce, the 15-year-old is listed as “Vivienne Jolie” instead of “Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.” It is not immediately clear if Vivienne has legally changed her name. Reps for both Jolie and Pitt could not be reached for comment.

★ Soap actress Susan Lucci claims she was asked to be “The Golden Bachelorette”. In an interview with People, the “All My Children” star said that the show reached out to her publicist about the role, which ultimately went to Gerry Turner’s ex, Joan Vassos. Lucci told the magazine: “It wasn’t for me, but I do love watching. I’m a fan. I love watching.” A source close to the show, however, responded by saying that Lucci’s claim “is not true.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Lady Gaga – at a dance party to celebrate the world premiere of her film “Gaga Chromatica Ball”, she revealed that she performed 5 shows during that tour while sick with COVID. She claims she told crew they didn’t have to work those shows if they felt uncomfortable about it. She also confirmed that she is “hard at work” on her upcoming 7th album.
• Taylor Swift – performed the song ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ for the first time ever during her Saturday concert in Lisbon, Portugal. She sang it as part of a mashup with ‘Now That We Don’t Talk’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2ezwrdhw
• The Black Keys – have canceled their “International Players Tour”, which was scheduled to bring them to arenas throughout North America. A statement says that they scrubbed all 31 scheduled dates on the Sept.-Nov. trek in order to make the shows more “exciting” and “intimate”. The lone Keys date still on their website is a July 6 appearance at NASCAR’s Chicago Street Race.
• Oasis – Despite the rumors, they’re not reuniting. They will, however, release the “Definitely Maybe (30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)”. Out Aug 30, it will feature songs abandoned from the original recording session, as well as outtakes, newly mixed by Noel Gallagher. It will come in Deluxe 4LP and Deluxe 2-CD formats, plus coloured vinyl.
• Rolling Stones – Mick Jagger told the crowd at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on Thursday that a local restaurant, The Tick Tock Diner, has introduced a new sandwich named after him, ‘The Mick Jagger’ Quote: “I’ve never had a (freaking) sandwich named after me. I’m very, very proud.” (How did they NOT call it the ‘Big Mick’?)
• Morgan Wallen – His mom clapped back after Nashville Council voted last week against allowing a sign to hang above his bar on Lower Broadway. After a council member said: “I don’t want to see a billboard up with the name of a person who’s throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs,” mom Lesli Wallen responded, saying: “Way to go Morgan. The city of Nashville says ‘Thank you for all of your help bringing in millions of revenue.”
• Tim McGraw – is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at his latest single ‘One Bad Habit’. The clip, in which he says the song reminds him of his relationship with Faith Hill, is available now on his YouTube Channel. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mwh7trbs
• Dolly Parton — will pay homage to her family’s lineage with her forthcoming album “Dolly Parton & Family: Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith & Fables.” The project, which Dolly’s cousin Richie Owens produced, will explore the heritages of her paternal Parton family and her maternal family, the Owens. It arrives on Nov. 15, and will be accompanied by a 4-part docuseries.
SHOOTING THE BULL
UNPLUGGED WEDDINGS:
Those who claim to know, say that one of the growing wedding trends these days is to ban the use of cell phones. Many couples are said to be enforcing a ‘no-phone’ mandate at their wedding as a way of focusing “the entire energy of the whole ceremony onto what’s actually happening and that sacred moment of the actual wedding,” according to Toronto-based photographer Jennifer van Son. That way, the couple can look out at their guests and see their actual faces, and maybe a few tears of joy, rather than a bunch of phone cameras staring back at them. But oddly, it isn’t the screen-obsessed Zoomers ruining the fun by holding their phones up. It’s the “boomers” who have become notorious for snapping grainy pics that they’ll probably post on Facebook after the reception — even at the risk of ruining the professional photographs — which cost a pretty penny. Younger generations are said to “get” phone etiquette in a way that older generations just don’t, sometimes.
(So apparently Boomers have ruined something else besides the housing market?)
(OK, but I’m still going to sneak my phone out later to post a pic of my meal!)

MAKING LEAF BLOWERS SUCK LESS:
It’s good news for anyone who has been awakened early on a Sunday morning by an over-conscientious neighbor, who feels the need to clear his lawn of every scrap of debris EVERY WEEKEND MORNING before 8am. A group of Johns Hopkins University engineering students were given the assignment of taking a leaf-blower — and making it quiet. Not just that, it had to work as powerfully as ever, but without emitting the ear-piercing racket that has gotten the units banned in some communities. And they did it. What they came up with is an improved leaf blower that drops the overall noise level by nearly 40% — and almost entirely erases the most obnoxious frequencies. So not only is it a quieter machine, what you do hear sounds more pleasant. The design is patent-pending and Stanley Black & Decker expects to be selling them in 2 years. And even better, the students say their solution could be adapted to quiet other loud and irritating appliances, like vacuums and hairdryers.
(I’m pretty sure this thing is exactly what my next-door-neighbor DOESN’T want!)
(So, you’re saying that vacuum cleaners make a noise?)

MOVING EXPERIENCE:
Sure, moving can be a nerve-wracking experience, but is it really more stressful than landing a plane in an emergency situation? One in 4 of us thinks so. A survey of 2,000 people in the US, who have moved in the past 5 years also found these less-than-fun facts about moving:
• 27% rated moving as more overwhelming than losing a job.
• 23% said moving is more stressful than switching careers.
• 21% felt moving is even more stressful than running for president.
• Anxiety was the most-commonly-felt emotion during the moving process, reported by 53% of respondents. That was followed by excitement (52%), joy (35%), hope (32%), and dread (21%).
• While packing and getting ready for moving day, the average person gets rid of 36% of their possessions.
(To me, landing a plane in an emergency situation is definitely more stressful than moving. Why? Because if you want, you can just pay someone to move you!)
(If you lived in MY neighborhood, you wouldn’t find moving stressful at all. What you’d find stressful is NOT moving!)

DID YOU KNOW?
When linguist Andrew Bray was researching slang used by hockey players, he was asked an interesting question: “Are you trying to figure out why the American (hockey players) sound like fake Canadians?” Upon further study, he discovered that American players do indeed shift their speech in subtle ways, not because they’re trying to sound Canadian—but because they’re trying to sound like hockey players. Bray found that American players do indeed borrow features of the Canadian accent—particularly with hockey terms – adopting it more the higher they advance, given that Canadian players are so prevalent. (I wonder if Canadian NFL players grunt with an American accent…)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Hamburger Day”, a day to celebrate one of the cornerstone foods of Western civilization – the hamburger! While it was invented in Germany, its popularity spread like wildfire throughout the US and Canada. (What burger topping can you absolutely NOT do without? And what one is a dealbreaker?)
• “Amnesty International Day”, commemorating the 1961 launch of ‘Appeal for Amnesty’ which evolved into what became known as “A.I.” long before Artificial Intelligence was a thing. The organization strives to protect human rights around the world by publicizing problems and encouraging citizens and governments to take action.
• “Brisket Day”. Brisket is a tricky meat in that it comes from the animal tough, but if you find a particularly well-marbled piece and cook it correctly, it will become fork-soft and simply peel apart, making it the tenderest of tender meats. (Whoops! Drooled just a bit there…)
• “Slugs Return From Capistrano Day”. This holiday is a parody of “Swallows Return to Capistrano” or “Swallows Day” in March, when swallows migrate to Capistrano. On this occasion, the slugs that have been living in the beautiful Mission San Juan Capistrano supposedly leave their winter haven and go back to the gardens and yards they came from.
