Bully For You!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ John Krasinski’s lockdown web series “Some Good News” is moving to ViacomCBS after the network emerged victorious in a bidding war – but he won’t be hosting anymore. Krasinski has enjoyed huge success with his online program, which he created to provide a spot of light relief during the coronavirus pandemic. And while he’ll no longer be the host, he’ll still have a presence. The first new episodes of Some Good News will air on the rebranded CBS All Access streaming service this summer.

★ Fans of “The Office” were saddened to see the show come to an end after nine seasons, but one fan actually did something about it. “Office” superfan Nick Janicki decided to take matters into his own hands by creating a 10th season, writing 24 complete “fan fiction” scripts. As Janicki said in a Reddit post, he wrote the scripts — all 900 pages — while quarantining. His season 10 doesn’t follow on the heels of the ninth season, but instead jumps to current times, imagining the characters’ reactions to living in 2020.

★ Professional wrestler and “Terrace House: Tokyo” cast member Hana Kimura has died at the age of 22. Authorities have not confirmed the cause of death, but the most recent update on her Instagram story on Friday featured a photo of her with her cat, with a caption that reads “goodbye.” She had also recently posted a series of troubling tweets referencing online bullying, one of which read that she didn’t “want to be a human anymore.”

★ Pixar’s first gay main character is “out.” On Friday, the animation studio debuted “Out”, a short film featuring its first-ever LGBTQ character in a central role. The 9-minute short premiered on Disney+ as a part of the streaming service’s “SparksShorts” series, which showcases independent shorts created by Pixar employees. Out centers around a man named Greg, who struggles with coming out to his parents as he prepares to move to the city with his boyfriend, Manuel.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Cardi B – revealed an impressive new tattoo in an Insta post on Friday. Alongside a video showing the giant colorful back tattoo, featuring various types of flowers, a butterfly and a hummingbird, she wrote: “Soooo here it is! It took me several months but I’m finally finished. This is my back tattoo!” (*** Actually more of a backSIDE tattoo! ***)
• Halsey — opened up about accepting her bipolar disorder in a new YouTube series for Mental Health Awareness Month. She said this about her latest release “Manic”: “In the process of making this album, I had to make peace with this manic version of myself.” She also called the album a “love letter” to bipolar disorder.
• Michael Bublé – He and his wife Luisana Lopilato hit the top of Facebook’s “Live Videos” chart last week after a 30-minute video of them baking oatmeal cookies cooked up 38.6 million views. The next closest video on Facebook’s chart clocked just 4.1 million views (by Ivete Sangalo).
• The Wailers — are back with the new song ‘One World, One Prayer’. The reggae group consisting of Farruko, Shaggy, Skip Marley and Cedella Marley released a “pseudo video” for the song on Thursday. The psychedelic visuals feature still images and stop-motion video of Bob Marley and the Wailers.
• Billy Idol — On Thursday, he showed up on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” to perform a “social distancing remix” of ‘Dancing With Myself’. Joined by Fallon, the Roots and their at-home instruments, it was definitely a…different version of the song, which has taken on new meaning in recent months.
• The Police – Drummer Stuart Copeland says that whenever their hit ‘Message in a Bottle’ comes on the radio, he changes the station because “there’s too many drum overdubs… it’s such a great song, and then it comes to the end and I switch over to another station because I screwed up.”
• Joe Walsh – has launched his own radio show on a public station in Los Angeles. He decided he had time to create “The Joe Walsh Old-Fashioned Rock ’n’ Roll Radio Show” for KCSN as a result of the coronavirus’ effect on the Eagles schedule. He’s on air for an hour every Saturday at 6PM.
• John Prine — will be honored with an online tribute concert. “Picture Show: A Tribe Celebrating John Prine” will stream live on Facebook and YouTube on June 11. It will include Prine’s family and friends sharing memories and performing his songs.
• Florida Georgia Line – released the EP “6-Pack” on Friday. Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley promise there’s something for everyone in the release, including their rowdy new party anthem ‘I Love My Country’, which they released in late March.
• Luke Combs – has himself a viral hit with his acoustic cover of Tracy Chapman’s 1988 hit ‘Fast Car’. It took less than 24 hours for Combs’ rendition to be viewed over 800,000 times.

IT’S A SURCHARGE, SIR:
As small businesses begin to reopen amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, some of their customers are noticing what appears on their receipts as an additional “COVID-19 surcharge” in an effort to recoup what many have needed to spend on new sanitation and physical distancing measures. The COVID fee could also help cover the cost of personal protective equipment for employees and income lost from reducing the number of customers a business is allowed to serve due to physical distancing measures. Hair salons and restaurants are among the first to apply the surcharge, of usually about $2, in areas where they have been allowed to reopen. Although there has been both support and outrage toward the new fees expressed on social media, marketing experts say that on the whole, people will accept it if companies make it clear what customers are expected to pay before the transaction, and if the public as a whole can agree that a few dollars is a small price to pay to support a small business in a tough time.
(And yes, keyboard warriors, there IS a difference between price gouging and an increase in the cost of doing business!)
(It’s not like it’s new — airlines have been adding surcharges ever since they invented the word!)
(You didn’t think the pandemic wouldn’t end up costing you money, did you?)

STRONG IDEA ABOUT WORK WEEK:
We all know that once we emerge from the pandemic, some aspects of the world will have changed forever. Who’s up for the 4-day work week? It’s something that New Zealand and some European countries are currently mulling over. And there is an online groundswell of support to bring the idea to Canada too. How would that help? In New Zealand, the thinking is that a 4-day work week would help the economy by giving people the flexibility to travel – thereby fueling the economy. It would increase tourism and boost economic activity. A four-day week wouldn’t mean any less work time, though. The 40-hour standard would still be in place, but compressed over four, 10-hour days.
(Oh. Never mind.)
(Perfect. So, is our morning show going to be Mon.-Thurs. or Tues.-Fri.?)
(Travel every weekend? So, it’ll be like everyone has kids who play rep hockey!)

FAST FACTS ABOUT FATTY FOODS:
➢ Burger King in Germany has introduced “social distancing crowns” to help customers keep their distance from one another. Diners will have no problem keeping apart from one another as the enormous novelty hats make sure people are six feet away at all times. This comes as the burger giant reopens its restaurants following weeks of lockdown. PIC: https://tinyurl.com/y7663c8m
(Let’s face it, you’re gonna stay away from anyone wearing a crown in public, no matter how big it is…)
➢ Pringles has released a new potato chip flavor that’s perfect for summer. Pringles Sweet Corn chips have arrived for a limited time, and supposedly taste just like corn on the cob. With butter. And salt. (Plus you don’t have to shuck it!)

THERE’S A NAP FOR THAT:
Just in time for your Monday siesta, here are the amazing benefits of napping every day . . .
☞ After one day:  You’ll feel the first benefits—a clear mind and restored alertness. (But don’t sleep too long, or you’ll wake up feeling like you’ve been hit by a bus. Trust me!)
☞ After one week:  Concentrating has become easier, your attention span has increased, your motor skills and accuracy have improved, and your overall mood and energy levels are higher than usual. (And you’ve missed 3 afternoon meetings at work!)
☞ After one month:  You’ve noticed improved memory, a boost in creativity, and enhanced emotional control and stamina. All of these things can help you achieve more in your career and build healthy personal relationships. Yup. Naps can actually make you more productive.
☞ After six months:  The long-term benefits kick in. You should experience a reduced risk of dying of heart disease and a possible increase in libido. Basically, adding a nap to your daily routine will give your body a major health boost.
(…and then it happens – you get used to napping, and then there is that one day you’re too busy…)
