★ “Green Book” director Peter Farrelly will direct “I Play Rocky,” the true story of how Sylvester Stallone bet on himself to play the role of a lifetime. I Play Rocky will follow Stallone as a struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment. TALE OF THE TEXT:
It’s the latest example of the great cultural divide between Boomers, millennials and Generation Z: How you text. Tech influencer Tyler Morgan says in a TikTok video with more than 2.8 million views that he can tell someone’s age “by how they type on their phone”. In the clip, captioned, “How old do you text,” he goes on, telling viewers that anyone who’s “using swipe to text” is most likely a millennial (those born roughly between 1981-96). He also says that texters who can type “fast and accurately” using one hand, are probably Gen Z (born between 1997-2012). And what about those who can type accurately with both thumbs? That’s a skill that straddles both millennial and Zoomer generations. Morgan feels that people remain at this “thumb tapping” age until their 50s (Gen Xers are born 1965-80), after which they tend to start typing with a thumb and index finger. And going back one more generation, he says that those born before 1965 do away with the thumb entirely, and just poke away at the letters with their “Peter pointer” finger. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bder2ps4
(I’m afraid to ask what it says about my age if I have no idea what “swipe to text” even means!)
(Actually, I find it’s easier to tell someone’s age by whether or not they use punctuation!)

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIGHWAYS, FREEWAYS, AND EXPRESSWAYS:
(***Note: American source, local definitions may vary.***)
⇒ Highway: Can be one lane in each direction or several lanes in each direction, with varying speeds, and can stretch across a single state or multiple states. May have stop signs or traffic signals, and even railroad crossings. Doesn’t necessarily have high speed limits.
⇒ Freeway: These are in heavily populated regions and big cities, and are always fast-moving, with multiple lanes in both directions. Ramps and exits are the only access points, meaning there is no interruption in the flow of traffic. Can be entirely in one state, or go through several.
⇒ Expressway: Much like a freeway, expressways actually connect other highways or freeways within the same city or metro area. May have tolls and they often have carpool lanes.
(Great. Now could someone please tell me what the hell a “turnpike” is?)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A coffee shop in the UK has decided to only serve customers who bring their own, reusable cup to the store. Not only that, but to illustrate the problem with disposable cups, they literally filled the store floor with them, making the customer area almost impassable. Otto’s Coffee House & Kitchen in Kent is hoping its new policy will inspire other coffee shops around the world to follow suit. (And if you forget to bring your own, and you don’t mind just a bit of lipstick…well just reach down to the floor and pick one out!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mr3sf484
➢ A team of 18 bakers worked together in France to cook a baguette measuring a record-breaking 461 feet (140.5m) long. The bakers, members of the French Confederation of Bakers and Pastry Chefs, gathered at the Suresnes Baguette Show to bake the bread loaf, which measured about 235 times longer than the average French baguette, and 3 times the length of a football field. After the bread was baked, part of the baguette was cut up, spread with Nutella and shared with the public. Another part was distributed to the homeless. (Can’t help but think the REAL record set that day was for largest oven…!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A new study published in Classical and Quantum Gravity reveals that a group of scientists have discovered a loophole in Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, which seems to make faster-than-light travel achievable. It’s a long, technical explanation, but the researchers, from various institutions, say that it’s possible to create a “warp bubble” that compresses spacetime in front of a spaceship, and expands it behind, just like the warp drive on shows like “Star Trek”. The researchers showed mathematically that this “physical warp drive” obeys all the known energy conditions of general relativity. (I’ve already booked my trip to another galaxy. I leave last year!)

BS CHRONOMETER 05.10.24
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “National Golf Day”, it’s time to pull those clubs out of storage, dust them off, and get ready to hit the greens again! Golf Day heralds the beginning of the more ‘Golfer friendly’ part of the year. To honor the occasion, here are some…
BS REASONS GUYS GOLF:
⇒ It’s nice to get out and see some grass that’s actually been mowed.
⇒ If you hang around the house, you end up having to fix something.
⇒ That wonderful feeling of accomplishment when you hit the ball 20 yards into the
rough…again.
⇒ We need more frustration in our lives.
⇒ Too old for baseball, too young for checkers. (***See “BS Deep Thoughts From Golfers”, below***)
• “Clean Up Your Room Day”. What, once a year? Were you born in a barn?
• “Trust Your Intuition Day”, a day to listen to your ‘gut-feelings’ and act upon them. Is it true … are women better at this than men? (I had a feeling they were…)
• “National Small Business Day”. A ‘small business’ is commonly defined as one with fewer than 100 employees. (Many of today’s small businesses used to be big businesses…)
• “Canadian Tulip Festival” begins, running through May 20 in Canada’s Capital Region of Ottawa-Gatineau. The world’s largest tulip festival is thanks to a gift of 100,000 tulip bulbs from Dutch Princess (later Queen) Juliana in 1945, as thanks for providing her a home during WW2. LINK: https://tulipfestival.net/
• “World Lupus Day”, to create awareness of the potentially fatal auto-immune disease that can damage virtually any part of the body. 9-out-of-10 people with lupus are women.
• “National Shrimp Day”, Some shrimpy ‘Whack Facts’:
✓ Generally speaking, the colder the water, the smaller and more succulent the shrimp.
✓ Shrimp change color when you cook them, due to a heat-induced chemical change in their shells.
✓ Some shrimp can loudly snap their pincers.
✓ Jumbo and colossal shrimp are referred to as prawns – although the prawn is actually a different species.
✓ Shrimp are low in calories, high in protein, and in many parts of the world, are eaten with the heads on.
✓ The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company Restaurant was inspired by 1994 film “Forrest Gump”. It operates about 35 restaurants worldwide.
SATURDAY-
• “Eat What You Want Day”, a day to ignore all the warnings, avoid worrying and counting calories, and fight our obsession with being thin. If healthfulness was not a concern, what would you really, really like to eat? (We’re going with bacon-stuffed bacon!)
• “Twilight Zone Day”, that mysterious 24 hours that should be highlighted with eerie background music and unexplainable occurrences. Why today? It’s not the anniversary of the first episode of the show. It isn’t the anniversary of the birth or death of its creator, Rod Serling. It’s just…totally…unexplainable….
• “Hostess Cupcake Day” a day to celebrate and enjoy one of America’s most beloved snack cakes.
• “World Ego Awareness Day”, to raise social awareness about egotism. The day supports those affected by egotism, both the abused and perpetrators, and aims to prevent people from experiencing this invisible form of abuse. (So, today, leggo your ego…)
• “Windmill Day”. The objective of this day is expanded to now include electricity-generating windmills. Recognizing their importance to produce “green” energy, we’re encouraged to use this day to support windmill research and to promote the development and installation of electrical power-generating windmills in our communities.
SUNDAY-
• “Mother’s Day”, in some 60 countries, including USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe. The modern holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at a church in Grafton WV. More North Americans eat out on “Mothers Day” than any other special occasion. (No reservations? Forget it.)
• “Foam Rolling Day”. At one point, it was called the ‘poor man’s massage’. The once-mysterious technique used only by pro athletes, coaches, and therapists, became a familiar everyday practice for people of all levels of fitness – until it was more or less replaced by the electric massager. (It’s just how people roll these days…)
• “International Nurses Day”, wrapping up “Nursing Week”, this day commemorates the 1820 birth date of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale. Here’s to you, RNs, NPs, and all nurses!
• “Limerick Day”, celebrating the 1812 birthday of Edward Lear, author of the first collection of limericks, “The Book of Nonsense”. (***Some ‘Loony Limericks’ here: LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4dd2ahun ***)
• “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Awareness Day”, promoting awareness of the syndrome officially known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, or ‘M-E’. Today is also “Fibromyalgia Awareness Day”, a similar malady that can cause debilitating fatigue, sleep disturbance, and joint stiffness.
• “Odometer Day”, a reminder that odometers help us anticipate the lifespan of our cars and remind us to schedule maintenance (in hopes that our cars will “go that extra kilometer” for us…)
• “Nutty Fudge Day”. Fudge is a confection made with ingredients like butter, sugar, corn syrup, condensed milk, marshmallow creme, vanilla, and chocolate. Nuts can be added as well, especially today, because it’s Nutty Fudge Day! The ingredients are cooked and then beaten until soft, creamy, and smooth.

BULL’S BITS
BS WHACK FACTS:
✓ Contrary to popular belief, no study has proven that eating chocolate causes acne.
✓ Scientists still don’t know what causes the shower-curtain effect, when the curtain billows inward while the shower is running.
✓ In 1966, Mercedes invented a car controlled by a joystick, replacing both the steering wheel and pedals. It could also be driven from the passenger seat.
✓ Babies sometimes smile, not because they’re happy, but because they know it makes their parents happy.
✓ The word “friends” is said in every episode of “Friends”.
✓ 27,000 trees are sacrificed every day for the world’s toilet paper.
-ReadersDigest, Facts
BS WHACK ‘MOM’ FACTS:
✓ The first thing a baby can vocalize is the ‘ma’ sound, which is why in almost every language, the word for ‘mother’ begins with ‘M’ or is some variation of the ‘ma’ sound.
✓ Mothers do about 88% of laundry in US households. This equals 330 loads of laundry and 5,300 articles of clothing per year.
✓ The world’s heaviest baby was born in 1955. An unfortunate mother’s newborn weighed 22 pounds, 8 oz (10.2 kg).
✓ Mrs. Feodor Vassilyev of Russia gave birth to 69 children between 1725 and 1765.
✓ “Mommy-brain” is real. Up to 80% of moms report brain fog and mental bloopers associated with pregnancy, and a 2016 study found expectant mothers lose gray matter — and these losses endure for at least 2 years.
✓ On average, moms take 2 minutes and 5 seconds to change a diaper. Fathers take an average of 1 minute, 36 seconds.

MORE BS CLEAR SIGNS THAT YOU’RE A MOMMY:
• You have the ability to hear a kid sneeze through closed doors in the middle of the night, 2 bedrooms away, while your husband snores next to you.
• Peeing with an audience is part of the daily routine.
• You think of physical pain on 3 levels: pain, excruciating pain and stepping on a Lego.
• You realize you’ve been watching Nickelodeon alone, even though your kids have been in bed for an hour.
• You have a secret chocolate stash, because frankly, you’re sick of sharing.
• You use your own spit to clean your kid’s face…and sometimes their friends’.
• You’ve been washing the same load of laundry for 3 days because you keep forgetting to dry it.
• You hire a sitter because you haven’t been out with your husband in ages, then spend half the night checking on the kids.
• By the end of the day, just brushing your teeth feels like a huge accomplishment.
