Bullseye!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Tim Allen says that Keanu Reeves will be one of the voice cast members of the upcoming “Toy Story 4” film. Last week, the teaser trailer debuted and Tim Allen spoke about the movie during an appearance on “The Tonight Show”. Allen says that some of the toys that producers came up with for the movie “Will really surprise you” and that of course some older characters will return.  He added that Reeves has a “great part”, but he wouldn’t give up any more details than that.

★ Alec Baldwin says he was targeted by the suspect who sent pipe bombs in the mail to at least 13 critics of US President Trump.  In an interview, Baldwin said: “The FBI came to my home and told me that my wife and I were some of the people that this guy searched on his computer.  He had researched several people he viewed as opponents of Trump. They sat me down at my home and it was very disconcerting because I have young kids.”  Cesar Sayoc of Florida pleaded not guilty this month over the distribution of parcels allegedly containing explosives, including those sent to former president Barack Obama and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton. None detonated.

★ David and Victoria Beckham’s Oxfordshire, England home has been targeted by burglars for the second time in a month. in October, three balaclava-wearing intruders were caught on CCTV outside the lavish property. And it has now been revealed that on November 14, security guards and attack dogs were forced to chase another set of intruders away from the property. Neither of the pair or their four children were home at the time.

★ A member of Hollywood royalty has a secret role in the upcoming “Aquaman” movie.  None other than Oscar-winner Julie Andrews has a previously unannounced role in the superhero adventure. “The Sound of Music” actress voices the mythic ‘Karathen’, an undersea creature that holds the key to Jason Momoa’s character Arthur Curry’s quest to unite the Atlantean and surface worlds. The ironic thing is that Aquaman is going head-to-head at the box office next month against Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns”, the sequel to Andrews’ 1964 classic, which also has a live-action plus animation underwater sequence.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Justin Bieber — marked his first Thanksgiving as a married man, posting on Instagram that “love isn’t always easy” but adding he was trying, like Jesus Christ, to be more patient and selfless.  He also wrote that Thursday’s U.S. Thanksgiving holiday was the first he had hosted.
• (***Caution – ‘damn’***) Lady Gaga – is still obsessed with the video game “Bayonetta”.  On Saturday, she tweeted: “Still playing #Bayonetta…and my hands hurt and I have to sleep and it’s 4 In the damn morning but this damn dragon with the face that I have to kill with my weave.”
• Michael Bublé – although his new album ‘Love’ topped the UK charts, he just doesn’t care.  He says chart positions mean nothing to him anymore after dealing with the trauma of his son Noah being diagnosed with cancer, from which he has recovered. Quote: ”I don’t read anything, don’t have social media any more and my poor manager cannot tell me what the chart positions are because he knows I will cut the call.”
• Mumford and Sons – Are set to tour behind their new album “Delta”, and singer Marcus Mumford says they will be featuring a different kind of live set-up: “We’re putting a stage right across the middle of the arena. It goes up into the stands, too, so there are people literally in front, below and beside us.”
• U2 – singer Bono says he felt ”emasculated” when he lost his voice mid-performance in Germany in September, and says that people around him were ”alarmed” because he’d had no problems before going on stage.  He believes the problem was some kind of allergic reaction, possibly to smoke, which “Turned off the voice.”
• Eric Clapton – recorded a version of ‘Jingle Bells’ in a “house music” style for his new Christmas album “Happy Xmas” in memory of Avicii.  He has said that the death of DJ and producer left him in fear for young musicians who receive no help with dealing with their lifestyle.
• Aretha Franklin – Her Detroit mansion has been sold — for $300,000.  The mansion has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, leaded glass windows and a three-car garage.
• Jake Owen – He and his girlfriend Erica Hartlein are expecting their first child together. He made the announcement during ABC’s “I’m Coming Home” holiday special on Thursday.
• Chris Stapleton – his CMA Awards Song of the Year winner ‘Broken Halos’ was inspired by a chapter title in Keith Richards’ biography “Life”.  The song’s co-writer Mike Henderson says he brought the title to Stapleton and the two finished the song in about an hour.

DIM IDEA:
Scientists think they may have come up with an unorthodox way to tackle climate change: spraying chemicals into the atmosphere which would “dim the sun”.  Research by scientists at Harvard and Yale universities proposes using a technique known as “stratospheric aerosol injection”, which they say could cut the rate of global warming in half.  It would involve spraying large amounts of sulfate particles into the Earth’s lower stratosphere at altitudes as high as 12 miles. The sulfates would be delivered by specially designed high-altitude aircraft, balloons or large naval-style guns.  They estimate the cost of launching the system in 15 years’ time at around $3.5 billion, with running costs of $2.25 billion a year over a 15-year period.  Although there is currently no existing aircraft suitable for the job, researchers say that developing one “would neither be technologically difficult nor prohibitively expensive.”
(And what kind of emissions would one of those babies emit?)
(Um…OR we could cut greenhouse gas emissions…)
(You do realize that if they are successful, no one will ever again be able to say, “Everybody complains about the weather, but no one does anything about it…”)

GOOD POINT:
It’s never a good thing when Friday rolls around and you still haven’t tackled that big project that has been sitting on your plate since the start of the work week.  Nicholas Sonnenberg, co-founder of the task outsourcing platform “Leverage” says that you can boost your productivity and give yourself a bit of a break on Fridays by scheduling your week using the “Arrow” method.  What you do is this:  Front-load your week with work. And that’s it! With the Arrow method, you organize your week in the shape of an arrowhead, so you start off your week by doing the most work on Monday, then schedule your duties so they gradually taper down to the end of the week. By Friday, you’ll only have a few easy tasks left to do, rather than that big elephant of a job you’ve been putting off since Monday morning. And if you don’t get to everything early on? Easy — you’ve got time on Friday.  Sonnenberg says that not only does the Arrow method boost your weekly productivity, but it also gives your schedule some flexibility toward the end of the week, and gives you the psychological satisfaction and peace of mind of crossing items off your to-do list as you go.
(One problem:  meetings.)
(But do you really want the boss to see you with nothing to do on Fridays?)
(I’ve been using the “Boomerang” system, where everything I’ve done all week comes back to knock me on my butt on Fridays…)

RUNNING DOWN A DREAM:
A 64-year-old man has set a record for running the length of his country – New Zealand.  18 days after Perry Newburn began his journey at Cape Reinga, he arrived at Stirling Pt, Bluff, breaking a long- standing record with just a few minutes to spare.  It was no easy feat: Newburn battled extreme weather, from heat to torrential rain and flooding.  He began his record-breaking journey at 4.30am on November 3, and it took him just over 18 days to cover the 2113km.  To do so, he had to run the equivalent of about three marathons a day every day for nearly three weeks, without a single day of rest.  And what’s more amazing is how he fueled himself:  During his trip, he frequently ate at McDonald’s, loading up on hash browns and chocolate milkshakes.  And he paced himself in his head, shunning modern GPS devices.  The run was done to raise funds for the Running on the Spectrum charity, which helps Kiwi children with autism.
(I refuse to draw a connection between his diet and “the runs”…)
(A few minutes to spare?  Good thing he didn’t hit the snooze button that first morning!)

THINGS THAT ARE KILLING YOUR SMARTPHONE BATTERY:
☞ You have bad service:  When you are in a place with poor internet, your phone is working overtime to reconnect you…even when it is just resting in your pocket.  It keeps asking nearby towers: “Can you hear me?”, and if the tower can’t, your phone will try to send the message again with increased power.” (That explains why it seems the more remote place you are in, the faster you lose battery power!)
☞ Too many alerts:  Most apps—unless you specifically opt-out—will send you push notifications that often aren’t necessary. This, when multiplied by however many apps you have, can quickly drain your battery.  (Draining the battery – there’s a hundred apps for that!)
☞ Your phone is old:  An outdated phone likely has an unhealthy battery. Batteries are no longer built like the indestructible Nokia Bricks of the past.  (Score one for phones with replaceable batteries!)
☞ Bluetooth is always on:  Most phones are designed to have this automatically turned on, and it is another demand on your battery that requires power. Don’t need it? Turn it off.
☞ Too many calls:  Calling can cause your battery to drain faster than things like texting.  It uses much more of the available network’s capacity and also has to power up the sound element that is not in play with texting or emailing.  (But it’s a phone…isn’t that what it is supposed to do?)
☞ You use a lot of apps with GEO-locators:  Several apps—from Tinder and Yelp to Facebook and countless others—could be draining your battery because you’ve enabled “location finding” without knowing.  Anything with location services will drain your battery faster.  (Including the ones the Russians have put on there without your knowing…)
☞ It’s too hot or cold:  Extreme hot or cold affects your phone’s battery performance.  It may drain faster, or even shut down entirely until it returns to normal operating temperature.  Apple suggests limiting use of their devices to temperatures between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F).  (Great.  When it’s too cold to walk home, I can’t even call a cab!)
