Never Accept a Generic – Ask For Pure “BS”!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ James Van Der Beek is saying sorry to loved ones who learned of his colorectal cancer diagnosis through the media. The “Dawson’s Creek” wrote on Instagram: “Apologies to all the people in my life who I’d planned on telling myself. Nothing about this process has occurred on my preferred timeline.” He continued: “There’s no playbook for how [to] announce these things, but I’d planned on talking about it at length with People magazine at some point soon… to raise awareness and tell my story on my own terms. But that plan had to be altered…when I was informed that a tabloid was going to run with the news.” He said earlier to People that “There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.”

★ Ben Affleck heaped praise on his soon-to-be ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, amid their ongoing divorce proceedings. Affleck had a kind word for Lopez following her performance in the upcoming film “Unstoppable,” on which he served as a producer. In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” Affleck said that the movie is rooted in the “passion of really talented artists”. He specifically mentioned that “Billy Goldenberg and Jennifer and Don Cheadle and Jharrel [Jerome], and Bobby Cannavale, all were really passionate about this film,” and said “Jennifer is spectacular”. Unstoppable will be released Dec. 6.

★ Tom Cruise is in talks for a “Days of Thunder” remake. Reports say the 62-year-old has been speaking to execs at Paramount about a follow-up to his 1990 NASCAR racing film, which he co-starred in with ex-wife Nicole Kidman. Hollywood Reporter quotes a source as saying Cruise is talking [to Paramount] about “Top Gun” and Days of Thunder…It depends on the idea and, ultimately, the script.” Cruise, who played racer ‘Cole Trickle’ with Kidman as his neurosurgeon love interest in the movie – has script approval on all of his projects.

★ Police have asked prosecutors to consider bringing charges against Russell Brand. The disgraced comic has been interviewed by cops 3 times since a joint press investigation in 2023 uncovered multiple allegations of historical emotional and sexual abuse, including rape, against the “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” star, and now a file of evidence has been sent to the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service to see if the claims will be taken further. Brand has insisted the allegations are untrue.

★ The late Queen Elizabeth II will make a cameo in the upcoming third installment of the ‘Paddington’ movie franchise, a tribute that reportedly made the royal family “very happy.” The film, titled “Paddington in Peru,” will harken back to the animated bear’s afternoon tea with the late monarch, as shown in a video released during the queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. A photo of Paddington and Queen Elizabeth enjoying their tea will appear in one of the film’s scenes, according to Variety. BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Olivia Rodrigo – In an interview with Netflix, she revealed the question she asks guys to gauge their compatibility. Quote: “The biggest red flag, okay, this is a very oddly specific question that I ask guys on first dates. I always ask them if they would want to go to space. And if they say yes, I don’t date them. I just think if you want to go to space, you’re a little too full of yourself.”
• Liam Payne – His first posthumous song ‘Do No Wrong’ was scheduled for release Nov. 1, but it has been put on hold. Collaborator Sam Pounds wrote in a since-deleted tweet that he is delaying its release out of consideration to Payne’s family, noting “it’s not time yet”. The plan is to donate all proceeds “to a charity of their choosing (or however they desire).”
• Coldplay — Chris Martin fell through a trapdoor in the stage during a concert in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday. Video shows him walking backwards along the runway, then dropping into the hole. Fans gasped in shock, but he swiftly jumped back onto the stage, thanked his production crew for “catching” him and joked: “That was not planned.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4ut6da6a
• Daft Punk – On Dec. 12, their 2003 anime film “Interstella 5555: The 5story of the 5ecret 5tar 5system” will screen in more than 800 theaters in 40 countries. The movie is soundtracked by every song on Daft Punk’s 2001 album “Discovery”. It hasn’t been widely screened in its entirety in theaters until now, and on Dec 13, 5,555 copies of the album will be released on gold vinyl, plus 5,555 numbered CDs.
• Poison — drummer Rikki Rockett will release a memoir on July 15. “Ghost Notes” will dig deeper into the popular Poison stories, as well as the band’s early years in Pennsylvania, which he says “is more cinematic…than, ‘Oh, yeah, they played the Troubadour and the Strip and they hung up flyers’”.
• Thin Lizzy — will release a stripped-down new album called “Acoustic Sessions” on Jan 24. It’ll include archival contributions from late frontman Phil Lynott and former drummer Brian Downey. Co-founder Eric Bell reimagined the songs by adding acoustic guitar to songs from the 50th-anniversary deluxe editions of Thin Lizzy’s first 3 albums. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4ufnbrke
• Lee Brice – has dropped the single ‘Single Bells,’ his spin on the yuletide classic ‘Jingle Bells’. The tongue-in-cheek tune plays him up as a forever-alone guy who’s got no one to spend the festive season with. Sample lyric: “Single bells, single bells/ Single all night long/ Drinking whiskey/ Mistletoe tipsy/ Yeah, till the bottle’s gone.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/325s7sxf
• Jelly Roll – often gives performances at prisons while on tour, but during a visit in Chesterfield VA, he paused to take a seat and let some inmates perform — and their talent knocked his socks off. In a vid, he’s seen saying: “Who’s this [BLEEP]er that’s been singing his [BLEEP] off?”. From there Jelly got permission for 4 inmates to come to his show that night, and join him onstage to sing ‘Unpretty’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ywsm5mwm
• Bailey Zimmerman – surprised his grandmother with a brand-new Cadillac for her birthday. He posted pics of his g-maw with her new set of wheels, writing: “Happy birthday to the sweetest soul I know. GRANDMA GOT A NEW CADDY BABY”, and asked fans to “tell her happy birthday” in the comments. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/rw86u4we
SHOOTING THE BULL
SHOELESS GYM:
Experts are saying that you’re better off wearing less for your workouts. Now, before you jump to any X-rated conclusions, I need to inform you that it is your SHOES that you might want to consider getting rid of. A number of podiatrists, trainers and ever orthopedic surgeons are pointing to the upsides of working out barefoot. Nick Clayton, personal training program manager for the National Strength and Conditioning Association, says that working out without footwear “offers a number of benefits for balance, mobility, and coordination”, including improving stability and helping improve the ankles, knees, hips and back. Shoe-free workouts can also lessen your risk of some foot problems, and help improve posture and “enhance overall movement efficiency, according to Gregory Alvarez, a podiatrist at Ankle and Foot Centers of America. One caveat: Make sure that if you go running without shoes, you build up your tolerance over time, to avoid injury.
(The only time you’d ever find me running without shoes would be if somebody stole ‘em!)
(This explains why so many fitness influencers I see online aren’t wearing shoes! What it doesn’t explain is why they aren’t wearing much of anything else, either!)

WHAT A NEWFANGLED WEB THEY WEAVED:
Up until now, ‘Spider-Man’ has been a strictly fictional character (spoiler alert – too late!), but perhaps for not very much longer. Scientists at Tufts University have created a strong web-slinging fiber similar to the one that Spidey shoots from his wrists. And while they admit that we aren’t going to be using these things to capture and tie up super-villains, the invention could help us lift objects with impressive holding power. The sticky fibers aren’t made from spiders but from silk moth cocoons which have been boiled to break down a protein called fibroin, which is released through narrow needles to form a stream that solidifies when exposed to air. Long story, short, in tests, the web’s adhesiveness and elasticity allowed it to easily stick to — and raise materials 80 times the weight of the fibers.
(That’s fine and all, but what they really should be working on is replicating Green Goblin’s glider-thingie, don’t you think?)
( [YAWN] When they come up with a ‘Spidey-Sense’, let me know…)

REGRETS? WE HAVE A FEW:
According to a new poll, having regrets in life is completely normal. In fact, only 11% of us claim to have no regrets. The new survey of 2,000 adults in the US, split evenly by generation, found that the most-common things people wish they had a do-over for include not speaking up (40%), not visiting family and friends enough (36%), and not pursuing dreams (35%). The poll found that people reported missing out on an average of 3 chances to take a once-in-a-lifetime trip, 4 lost opportunities to ask a crush on a date, and 6 instances of not having the perfect comeback in an argument. The top actions people said they regret doing include spending money or buying something (49%), fighting with friends or family (43%), and making an unnecessary comment (36%). The survey also found we regret an average of 5 angry text messages and 2 breakups.
(Well, if you had 3 chances for a once-in-a-lifetime trip, they weren’t once-in-a-lifetime trips, were they?)
(I’ve never had an argument where I didn’t have a perfect comeback – 2 hours later!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A new study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology shows that drinking coffee may slow facial aging. Researchers analyzed the effects of coffee, tea, alcohol, and sugary drinks on over 16,000 people, and found that only coffee was significantly associated with slower skin aging. Antioxidants are thought to be responsible for this effect by improving skin elasticity and hydration, which helps delay wrinkles. Moderation is key, with 2-3 cups of coffee daily recommended to realize benefits without side- effects like sleep disruption. (How about I try rubbing that stuff right onto my face?)
