Bully For You!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The battle over the “Rise and Shine” name is heating up after the trademark holder filed a formal complaint with Snapchat to stop Kylie Jenner from selling products bearing the name. Cathy Beggan–who owns a company called “Rise-N-Shine” specializing in nutritional supplements, including a line of cosmetics, shampoos and conditioners, formally complained to Snapchat after Jenner was seen selling custom hoodies on the platform with the famous tagline. It’s unclear if Snapchat will make any moves to remove the content or stop Kylie from selling the products.

★ Chrissy Teigen used to rummage through garbage bins for food. The 33-year-old says she used to be obsessed with the homemade chips with a chipotle BBQ sauce that a company she worked for sold, so she would wait for customers to toss out their unwanted grub and she’d devour it hours later. On the other hand, that’s not the worst thing she says she’d eat. She recently said: ”There’s actually nothing I wouldn’t eat or wouldn’t drink or wouldn’t try. If the person okayed it, I would eat a human.”

★ “The Simpsons” will hit a milestone this week with the introduction of Grey DeLisle-Griffin, the voice actress taking over the roles previously played by the late Russi Taylor. Taylor, who passed away on July 26, provided the voices of ‘Martin Prince’, ‘Sherri’, ‘Terry’ and several others for the show. She also was the voice of ‘Minnie Mouse’ for years, in addition to her other iconic work in animation and TV. Her replacement DeLisle-Griffen is best known for being the voice of ‘Catwoman’ in video games and the voice of ‘Arcee’ in “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”.

★ Lisa Marie Presley is reportedly concerned that Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming film about her father, Elvis Presley, might meet backlash in light of the #MeToo era. Presley fears the film will expose Elvis’ interest in young girls, especially since he famously started dating her mother Priscilla Presley when she was just 14 years old. A source says : “Lisa Marie has been trying to have Priscilla really consider how much private information she gives, but it’s been a one-way conversation.” The new Elvis film still does not have a title, but is scheduled to open on Oct. 1, 2021.

BS MUSIC NOTES:

• Kanye West – joked during an appearance at the Fast Company Innovation Festival on Thursday that he was considering changing his name to “Christian Billionaire Kanye West” in light of his new ‘holy man’ persona.
• Miley Cyrus – the outspoken singer will have to stay silent for a while she recovers from surgery on her vocal cords. While hospitalized last month for tonsillitis, doctors discovered a separate issue with her vocal cords. Along with instructions to not speak, she naturally has to take a break from recording her new album as well.

• The Who — Pete Townshend says he will only smash guitars in the future to raise money for charity. Although instrument destruction was once a hallmark of the group’s stage show, he now says ”I haven’t smashed guitars for a long time, for me it was an expression of youth. I smashed a guitar on David Letterman and it auctioned for $168,000”.
• Neil Young – says that his attempts to attain U.S. citizenship were delayed in part due to the “good moral character” clause on the immigration application. He blogged that although he passed the citizenship test, he was recently told that he must do another test, due to his use of marijuana and how “some people who smoke it have exhibited a problem.”
• Johnny Cash — YouTube Originals is now streaming the documentary film “The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash”. It features commentary from Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris, and members of the Cash family, including his daughter Rosanne Cash and son John Carter Cash.
• Kane Brown — unveiled his “2020 Worldwide Beautiful Tour” on Friday. The trek will take him throughout North America and Europe in the winter and spring. It begins on Feb. 2 in Dublin, Ireland. He’ll stay overseas for about a week, until Feb. 8, and then head back to the United States to start his North American run on Feb. 29 in Atlantic City, N.J.

THIS WEEK’S VIDEO RELEASES (Streaming and/or DVD):

COUGH-Y BREATH:
Just in case you thought there weren’t enough health risks associated with vaping, here comes the latest: A social media influencer is hawking a new caffeinated vaping device advertised as “coffee you can breathe”. That’s right: Let’s all try vaping…coffee! In a video posted to Facebook, Canadian influencer Adrianne Ho seductively poses with her ‘SnowPlus’ coffee vape, and says it has made it easier for her to caffeinate as she jets around the world posting selfies for her 819,000 Instagram followers. She says using it allows her to enjoy coffee while on the go, and that she can “just get a quick hit of caffeine and feel energized.” The SnowPlus coffee vape, which is said to be the first vape pod made from real coffee, sells for $39.99. It does not contain nicotine. No word on FDA approval.
(Coffee that you can breathe?  Judging by his breath, maybe that’s what (co-host) has been using all along!)
(Easier to enjoy on the go? I don’t know…I see a lot more “No Vaping” signs than “No coffee” signs!)

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE:
OK admit it. Running is good for you. That’s what we’ve always been led to believe. And no, sorry, I’m not about to tell you that running ISN’T good for you. The question is: How much do you need to run in order to reap the benefits? The answer is apparently “not much”.  Researchers examined data from studies on 232,000 adults who were followed for 5 to 35 years, and found that any amount of running is associated with a lower risk of dying prematurely, particularly from cancer or heart disease, compared to not running at all. Those who ran were 27% less likely to die for any reason during the course of the study. The frequency, duration, pace and total weekly running time didn’t appear to impact the lowered mortality risk associated with running. (It’s not good for you if it kills you…and running kills me!)
(Running might be good for me, but it’s not good for my knees!)
(If you ever see me running, you should too, because something is chasing me…!)

GO FIGURE:
A lot of us grew up with the belief that boys are innately better at math than girls. By now, several studies have debunked that myth, but now researchers have brain imaging to back them up. A study published in the journal “Science of Learning” got 104 kids between the ages of 3 and 10 to perform cognitive tests and watch videos of engaging math lessons while in an MRI scanner. What they found is that boys’ and girls’ brains respond in the exact same ways when engaged in the tests. One of the lead researchers explained that previous studies had proven that boys’ and girls’ math test scores are statistically equivalent, and that both develop their abilities at the same rates in early adulthood, but up until now, it had never before been proven that each genders’ brains handled mathematics in the same way.
(So the only difference is that girls’ answers are easier to read!)
(I’ll tell you this: No one who was ever in a math class with me believed that boys are better at math than girls!)

Hence the book with the same title, which spawned a generation of sentimental spinoffs.

• “Happy Hour Day”, celebrates the time at bars and restaurants when alcoholic drinks are served at discounted prices. Happy hours usually take place in the late afternoon—usually for more than an hour, and often between the hours of 4PM and 7PM. (Booze won’t fix your life…but it’s worth a shot!)
