Sweet Sheet!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Marty Krofft, who with his brother Sid produced memorable kids shows “H.R. Pufnstuf” and “Land of the Lost” — as well as the 2009 feature based on the latter — has died. Krofft, who was 86, died of kidney failure Saturday in Los Angeles. Often referred to as the “King of Saturday Mornings”, he and his brother also produced a number of primetime variety shows, including “Donny and Marie” and “Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters.” In 2018, Marty and Sid received the Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

★ If you’re holding out hope for a “Barbie” sequel, you’d better take a deep breath. The film’s $1.4 billion in box office bank led to speculation that a second movie might be in the works, but Margot Robbie doesn’t see herself returning to Barbie’s Dream House anytime soon. In a recent interview, she said: “We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something.” The actress and producer explained that director Greta Gerwig “put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next.”
-Messenger
★ Tiffany Haddish was arrested for DUI after reportedly being found sleeping behind the wheel of her car. TMZ says the actress and comedian was slumped over in the driver’s seat of a stopped vehicle on Friday with the engine running, at 5:45am. She was arrested and later released by Beverly Hills police. Haddish was performing at comedy club The Laugh Factory the night before, for their annual free Thanksgiving event. She’ll appear in court on December 4.
-NME
★ The Thanksgiving box office saw improvements from last year’s poor returns, but was still far from pre-pandemic levels. Disney’s “Wish” and “Napoleon” are estimated to have taken in less than $35 million over 5 days, allowing “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” to retain the #1 spot with an estimated $40 million. Industry estimates have overall Thanksgiving totals of $173 million, up 29% from the $134 million posted in Thanksgiving 2022 – but down 34% from the $262 million posted on Thanksgiving weekend 2019.
-TheWrap
★ Jon Hamm wants to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 52-year-old, a huge fan of the MCU, told Screen Rant: “There are tons of stories that I’m familiar with…that are still out there to be told.” He was previously considered to play the role of villainous ‘Mister Sinister’ in a scrapped sequel to “The New Mutants”, an “X-Men” spin-off, and he now hopes that since X-Men is now under the MCU banner, he’d be considered for a future role.
-Bang!
★ “The Simpsons” might be headed back to movie theaters, according to a new report. The industry newsletter, The Insneider, detailed in a profile of the upcoming James L. Brooks film “Ella McKay”, how it wants him to mount a sequel to “The Simpsons Movie”. The article explains how the Disney-owned 20th Century Studios wants to help grease the wheels with Brooks and co-creator Matt Groening, in order to get another Simpsons movie in the works. Newsletter author Jeff Sneider calls the plan a “We’ll scratch your back if you’ll scratch ours deal, the likes of which have powered Hollywood for decades.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Beyoncé — delivered a surprise (pretaped) message during NBC’s coverage of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, sharing a message of gratitude — and a new trailer for her upcoming “Renaissance” concert movie. It opens with Bey declaring, “I have nothing to prove to anyone at this point,” before a montage of live performance clips. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5bmsazu9
• Taylor Swift – The lucky fan who managed to catch the heel of her boot during a Brazil concert is selling it to raise funds for his cousin’s cancer treatment. Between songs, Swift paused, pulled off the broken heel of her custom Christian Louboutin boot, and threw it into the crowd. Swiftie Felipe Conrado caught it, later posting a pic of the bedazzled heel. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ynbs3dst
• Bryan Adams – The Songwriters Hall of Fame nominee credits Taylor Swift for the idea of re-recording some of his own songs for the “Classic” and “Classic Pt. II” albums. Quote: “She was my inspiration. Now, my productivity has been so high.” He plans to take his daughters to a Swift concert in Canada next year.
• Hall & Oates — The mystery of why Daryl Hall obtained a restraining order against John Oates has been solved, after part of the case was unsealed by a Tennessee judge. AP reports that what it is that Hall “can’t go for”, is Oates’ plan to sell his share of the duo’s Whole Oats Enterprises to an investment firm, which already purchased a “significant” stake in their catalog 16 years ago.
• Ozzy Osbourne – The 74-year-old told Rolling Stone UK that he has “at best, 10 years left” to live. During a conversation about a recent back surgery that left him “practically crippled”, he said “The second surgery went drastically wrong”, and during the third “They found a tumor in one of the vertebrae”. No word on whether that 10-year estimation stems from medical opinion.
• Sam Hunt – His second child has arrived, but we don’t know much more than that. Friday, he shared a family photo where Hunt is seen holding daughter Lucy, while his wife Hannah Lee while Fowler stands by his side cradling their newborn. He captioned it: “Thank you Lord”. No word on the baby’s name, gender, or birthdate. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n8rrefv
• Jelly Roll – has much to be thankful for this holiday season. He won New Artist of the Year at the CMAs and is nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys. He said he’s eating better, losing weight, and not drinking as much, and wants to give back to his hometown of Nashville, which is why he launched a toy drive. Quote: “Who would I be to be so blessed and not turn around and try to be a blessing?”
• Blake Shelton – His next Hallmark movie is on its way. He has announced plans for the premiere of “Time for Her to Come Home for Christmas”, the latest holiday-themed Hallmark movie that he has executive produced. The film, featuring “Nashville” star Chris Carmack, premieres this Thursday. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p9cxamr

SHOOTING THE BULL

WORKERS WITH BENEFITS:
Here’s a little something that scientists have discovered — that I never thought I’d hear: It turns out that men are more likely to benefit from their looks in the workplace than women. I know, right? Researchers from the Polish Academy of Sciences tracked almost 12,000 Americans over a 20-year period, and found that good-looking men are more likely to attain better jobs and make more money than similarly desirable women. The study team wrote: “Physical attractiveness matters both for males’ and females’ …social mobility outcomes, but it is more important for males,” bucking the stereotype that good looks are especially advantageous for ladies.
(I’m not sure how reputable the “Polish Academy of Sciences” is, but hey, any chance you get to ‘study’ good looking people for 20 years, you take it, right?)
(Don’t worry, average-looking ladies. You’re still benefiting from your looks way more than I’m benefiting from mine!)

CRASH SOURCE:
What time is it that you usually “hit the wall”, and feel completely drained? For most of us, it’s precisely 2:36pm, according to a survey. In a poll of 2,000 adults, that mid-afternoon “crash” ties in nicely with what is sometimes called the “post-lunch slump”. It was determined that that employees typically face 3 big dips in their energy throughout the day. Perhaps alarmingly, 12% report experiencing their first slump before 9am, and one in 3 feel it while driving! And what impact do these energy declines have on us? 21% said they have found themselves crying, and 19% have had arguments with their partners during these crashes. Others have canceled social plans, forgotten important commitments, yelled at their children, fallen asleep in meetings, and made errors at work. Lack of sleep is the main culprit, survey respondents said. To combat these slumps, 37% said they turn to coffee, and an equal percentage take walks outside.
(I take a walk outside…to pick up coffee!)
(The good thing about getting up at 3:30 in the morning is that by the time I hit the wall, I’m already napping!)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ Motorists in South Carolina who were pulled over last week got a Thanksgiving surprise, as officers handed them a free turkey instead of a ticket. Every turkey day for the past 5 years the Summerville Police Department has spread seasonal cheer with the program. Video shows drivers being pulled over – then bursting into laughter and relief when handed a turkey. The department turns the week-long event, called “Turkey, no Ticket”, into a learning experience for drivers. They stop motorists who might normally have been issued written warnings or small tickets, and present them with frozen birds donated by a local supermarket. (Police abnormality?)
➢ On Wednesday, Japan held the first garbage collection world championship. Named the “SpoGomi World Cup”, a combination of the words “sport” and “gomi,” the Japanese word for garbage, it featured teams of 3 from 21 countries, which took to the streets of Tokyo to grab as much rubbish as they could within one hour. Britain made history by taking home the first-ever title, after earning 9,046 points for collecting 126.2 pounds (57.2kg) of trash. In total, all the teams picked up 1,208 pounds of garbage and were assigned points based on what kind of junk they found. (They could have had my investment portfolio…litter-ally!)

FRIENDLIEST CITIES IN THE WORLD:
According to the annual Condé Nest Traveler readers survey…
1. Victoria, Canada: A taste of Old-World charm on Vancouver Island, it features beautiful gardens, great museums, a bustling harbor, and afternoon teas at chic hotels.
2. Dublin, Ireland: Nearly every street has (at least) one pub filled with tourists and friendly locals coming together to celebrate life—and that welcoming vibe lasts long after a few pints. (Recent events excluded…)
3. Quebec City, Canada: The city is historic and attractive, and its “Frenchness” is clearly reflected in its food (and its cobblestone charm).
4. Edinburgh, Scotland: Whether you’re looking for Gothic architecture, buzzy restaurants, or a few shots of whisky, Edinburgh has an artsy-cool vibe that encourages visitors to follow the locals into any tiny bakery or neighborhood bar.
5. Sydney, Australia: The beautiful seaside city has always been beloved, and it has some of the best beaches and coffee shops in the entire country.
6. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: Beaches. Water sports. Nightlife. And this sandy, LGBTQ-friendly resort town is backed by palm-covered mountains.
7. Porto, Portugal: Known for its wine, it also has some of the best scenery in the country—and some of the happiest locals, too.
8. Cape Town, South Africa: World-class restaurants and culturally rich museums—not to mention the stunning parks, beaches, and wineries that are just a quick drive away.
9. Lisbon, Portugal: Coastal views, historic architecture, plus lots of fellow tourists and backpackers.
10. Kyoto, Japan: You can visit 10th-century temples and pass geishas in the street, plus there is a modern, artistic side as well.
(I’d say [*** this place***] ranks right up there when it comes to being friendly to strangers. It’s being more friendly with the locals that we need to work on…!)

BEST CARIBBEAN ISLANDS TO VISIT:
As recommended by experts…
1. St. Lucia
2. Barbados
3. Antigua
4. Grenada
5. Puerto Rica
(But let’s face it, during the cold, dark days of January, ANY Caribbean Island would do just fine!)

DID YOU KNOW?
There is a right way and a wrong way to eat Pringles chips. While you may be tempted to pop the canister open and place the concave side of the chip (Which faces down in the container) on your tongue, according to TikTok user @cookinhungry, snack lovers should place the top of the Pringle — the side facing upwards in the can — on their tongue, since most of the seasoning is distributed on that side. In 2017, Pringles stated that only the top of the chips are dusted with flavoring, and the bottom is only seasoned by coming into contact with the top of the chip stacked beneath it. However, they also said: “There’s no wrong way to eat Pringles!” (Well, THAT part I KNEW…!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4txa3mjc

• “Turtle Adoption Day”, also known as “Turtle Sponsorship Day”, it’s a “day of action for the protection of endangered reptiles”, specifically turtles. (***Here are some “Fast” facts about turtles: https://tinyurl.com/mwjx2zm ***)

• “Pie in the Face Day”, rather than Bavarian, can I opt for pumpkin instead?  After all, it IS the holiday season!
• “Electric Guitar Day”. It’s also, not-so-coincidentally, Jimi Hendrix’s birthday (born in 1942).
• “Pins and Needles Day”, Although this occasion may refer to that tingling feeling you get after sitting or lying in an awkward position — I see it as Christmas decorating. We have pine needles and metal pins all over the house now – and I won’t be able to walk around barefoot until probably February…
