If You Can’t Dazzle Them with Brilliance, Baffle Them with Bull!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Full House” star Dave Coulier has been diagnosed with cancer. The comedian revealed on the “Today” show that he was was diagnosed with stage 3 non-hodgkin lymphoma in October. He first went to the doctor after an upper respiratory infection led to swelling in his lymph nodes. He told “People” mag: “I went from, ‘I got a little bit of a head cold’ to ‘I have cancer’, and it was pretty overwhelming.” The good news is that he has been told that the cancer has not moved outside of his lymphatic system. He has begun chemotherapy, which is expected to be completed in February, and called the “curability” rate “promising.”

★ Emily Blunt wants her husband John Krasinski’s “Sexiest Man Alive” cover to be made into wallpaper for their home. During Krasinski’s interview with People magazine, his wife joked that she would cover their home in his wallpaper if he were given the title of “Sexiest Man Alive” this year. “The Office” star remarked: “Do we have that on camera? Because that’s like a binding contract, I think”. Tuesday night, Krasinski was named People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2024 during “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” The “A Quiet Place” star initially thought he was “being punked” when he learned he won the title.

★ Olivia Munn admits she “barely knew” her now-husband, John Mulaney, when she got pregnant with their first child in 2021. She told GQ of their relationship status when she found out she was expecting their son, Malcolm, saying: “It wasn’t anything close to ‘dating’. I barely knew him.” The couple talked about how their physical relationship blossomed into a marriage with 2 kids while being interviewed by GQ, for its 2024 Men of the Year issue. Munn initially assumed they would simply co-parent their child while she lived in LA and he remained in New York. But the 2 grew closer throughout Munn’s pregnancy, and for Mulaney, freshly out of rehab after a relapse, the arrival of the little one was “the only thing that made him seem light and happy.”

★ The first trailer for “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” has been released, and Renée Zellweger’s ‘Bridget’ is still looking for love as she comes to terms with the tragedy of losing ‘Mark’ (Colin Firth). That’s correct: The trailer serves up the bad news straight away that Darcy is no more. So, Bridget must move on, and is faced with 2 possible romances: There’s the hunky and age-appropriate ‘Mr. Wallaker’ (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a teacher at Bridget’s children’s school, and the wild card of ‘Roxster’ (Leo Woodall), who should be a red flag. Mad About the Boy will head directly to streaming in the US via Peacock, on Feb. 13. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2s4bwwhy

★ Winter is (slowly) coming to the big screen, as a “Game of Thrones” movie is in the early stages of development. No director, writer, or cast members are currently attached, but Warner Bros. has been quietly at work on at least one movie set in the fantasy world of George R.R. Martin’s book series. HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys confirmed the news during a 2025 preview event. Quote: “When we announce at HBO we’re developing this story or that story, keep in mind it’s developing…They’ll develop an idea, we’ll see if it’s good…That’s the point of development: you see, is there a story that’s worthy of being in theaters and a big spectacle? I think it would be fun.” There is also talk of a “Game of Thrones” spinoff about ‘Jon Snow’.

SHOOTING THE BULL
REESE’S MASTERPIECES:
Reese’s has launched the “Deconstructed Peanut Butter Cup Kit”, which allows fans to fill a huge chocolate shell with as much – or as little – peanut butter as they want. Available now for a limited time, the kit includes a giant 9-ounce milk chocolate shell and lid, plus a 10-ounce jar of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup filling. In a release, Reese’s said: “We know how personal your ideal ‘chocolate to peanut butter ratio’ is. So, go ahead, amp up the peanut butter or tone it down – we won’t judge.” The oversized cup kit was launched on Nov. 4 for National Candy Day, and is selling for $29.99. It, of course, sold out right away, but the company says they’ll bring it back “sooner than later.” The company was inspired to create the kit by a post on Reddit where the user showed that his entire pack of 5 Reese’s came without peanut butter in the cups. (That would totally be my villain origin story!)
(Forget the peanut butter – I’m definitely filling it with milk and cereal!)

GENERATION GENERALIZATIONS:
❑ An opinion column published on the Kidspot website argues that millennials make the best parents. And it makes a pretty good argument. The article, presumably written by a millennial, points out that not only are parents who are in that age group (28-43) regularly given advice by their parents who have “been there”, they are also served a “constant stream of content” including parenting advice, on social media. That includes what they go searching for, and things they just happen to come across, thanks to their personal algorithms. So, they can not only lean of tons of advice on what to do with their children when they experience certain situations, they can also take advantage of all kinds of new scientific research regarding the raising of children. The author did point out, however, that even if millennials truly are the best generation in history when it comes to parenting, “it’s worth keeping our opinions on how great we are to ourselves.” (But when you’re older, you’ll definitely let your kids know!)
❑ New research shows that Gen Z consumes more online content than any other generation. The poll of 2,000 people in the US found that Gen Z respondents (ages 12-27) consume an average of 6.6 hours of media and content every day. The comprehensive study on media consumption also showed that, on average, Americans (of all ages) consume 6 hours of content per day — or 42 hours per week, which would add up to 91 full days per year. 42% of those polled said they consume “too much” media, with 66% of Gen Z agreeing with that sentiment. (In my defense, I’d consume a lot less if “The Office” wasn’t SO DARN RE-WATCHABLE!)

HOLIDAY DELAY:
When it comes to holiday spending, shoppers aren’t saying they intend to hold back this year, but they do plan to take a more “deliberate” approach to the purchases they make. A new study of 2,000 consumers in the US who celebrate a winter holiday reveals the growing trend of “slow shopping”. Nearly 3 in 4 respondents said slow shopping would be a good descriptor of how they are handling things this holiday season. Three in 5 indicated they’re starting earlier than usual, and making more frequent shopping trips and picking up fewer gifts at a time. The Talker Research poll found that more than half of those who have embraced the slow shopping trend are doing so to ensure they are only buying the items they truly want. Similarly, 51% said they’re using slow shopping in order to take advantage of more deals and promotions. And by the way, 68% said they plan to spend the same or more than they did last year.
(I’m “slow shopping” so I can make room on my credit card as I go!)
(I’ve been seeing lots about another new trend called “doom spending”. Well, they CALL it new. But I’ve been referring to my Christmas shopping as doom spending for years!)

CELEBS WHO WALKED AWAY FROM FAME:
☆ Rick Moranis: His disappearance from Hollywood is well-known. A huge comedy star in the 1980s and ‘90s, he stepped away to raise his kids after the death of his wife. The news that he will be appearing on the “SCTV” Netflix special was greeted with surprise and enthusiasm.
☆ Macaulay Culkin: was a huge star before he was even a teenager, but that doesn’t always go well. Though he has acted occasionally since the ‘90s, he lives in Paris much of the time, and plays in a “pizza-focused Velvet Underground cover band.”
☆ Emilio Estevez: While his brother Charlie Sheen has been in the limelight, Estevez has largely disappeared. He was a member of The Brat Pack, then became known for his role in “The Mighty Ducks” movies. Since the turn of the millennium, he’s spent time directing TV, but did appear on “Gamechangers,” the “Mighty Ducks” show on Disney+.
☆ Jonathan Taylor Thomas: Once a huge TV star, he left “Home Improvement” to focus on school. After that, he was never able to regain that teenage glory. The only thing he’s done in the last decade is appear in a few episodes of Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing”.
☆ Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen: Ashley stopped acting after 2004’s “New York Minute.” Mary-Kate hasn’t appeared in anything other than a documentary since 2011. Although they have remained active in fashion, neither even showed up for “Fuller House”. (Probably a smart decision…)
☆ Meg White: The deeply shy and private ex-White Stripes drummer never seemed comfortable being in a huge band, and when the duo, which also featured her ex-husband Jack White, broke up, she basically disappeared from public life.
☆ Daft Punk: The robot-headed musicians were never eager to reveal their real faces, so maybe it’s no surprise that they called it quits in 2021, with the intention of dropping out of the spotlight forever.
☆ Dave Chappelle: Remember when he walked away from his sketch show on Comedy Central – and away from his $50million payday? He laid very low for several years, living for a time in South Africa, before eventually resurfacing. These days, his standup specials are easy to find on Netflix.

DID YOU KNOW?
Today’s must-have accessory for many young club-goers is…earplugs. For a long time, being seen at a nightclub, concert or festival with earplugs was the pinnacle of uncool. But that attitude is now changing amid growing awareness of the risks of exposure to loud music. Earplugs have become a common sight at music venues, and some even hand them out at the door. Many people say this is thanks to Loop Earplugs, a company founded in 2016 by 2 friends who experienced tinnitus after a night out. Their idea was to market their products as “sunglasses for your ears”. They turned earplugs into jewellery-like accessories, costing far more than standard earplugs. The company has sold more than 11 million sets to date. (Which is cooler – ear rings or ears ringing?)
