Sheeters Always Prosper!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Matthew Perry wanted to help others who struggled with drug abuse before his tragic death. People says the “Friends” star planned to create an organization to aid those who suffered with substance issues — 10 years after he established the male sober living facility Perry House. He died on Saturday at the age of 54 of an apparent drowning in his hot tub, and his friends say they hope to form the institution as a way to honor him. And despite reports, Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow is not adopting Perry’s dog. Earlier, rumors circulated that Kudrow would take on the responsibility, but a source told People it’s simply not true, and that he did not own a dog at the time of his death.

★ As Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker prepare to welcome their baby boy, the Blink-182 drummer revealed they name they have planned for their son: Rocky! He confirmed the news on the latest episode of the “One Life One Chance” podcast, and shared that the baby could arrive at any time. He told host Toby Morse: It’s either Halloween, or like the first week of November.” Barker and Kardashian previously hinted that the name was already picked out. In June, when Kourtney posted photos from a maternity, Barker commented: “I already know his name.” Then in July, he said on an episode of Complex’s “Goat Talk” series: “I like Rocky Thirteen.” His reasoning? “Rocky George played guitar for Suicidal Tendencies,” he explained. “And 13 is just the greatest number of all time.”

★ Kim Kardashian has announced that her shapewear brand SKIMS is partnering with the NBA. Under the new multiyear deal, SKIMS will become the “Official Underwear Partner” of the NBA, WNBA and US Basketball. SKIMS will receive “media exposure,” including on-court signage and social media plugs. This isn’t the first time the brand has teamed up with athletes: SKIMS partnered with the US Olympic and Paralympic teams ahead of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. The company also brought on NFL defensive end Nick Bosa, NBA guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Brazilian soccer forward Neymar for a shirtless campaign to promote the new SKIMS men’s line. SKIMS was valued at $4 billion this summer.

★ Seth Rogen is swapping the film lot for the pottery studio. The “Dumb Money” star will appear as a guest judge on “The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down” on CBC. “Schitt’s Creek” star Jennifer Robertson has been named host of the series, which is set to launch this winter. Based on the UK format “The Great Pottery Throw Down”, the show will see 10 amateur potters take on challenges to create beautiful pieces. Rogen, who is a talented potter himself, will also exec-produce.

★ Early development is underway for a TV series adaptation of the classic horror film “Poltergeist”. Originally co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg in 1982, the movie stars JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson and Beatrice Straight, as members of the Freeling family, who learn shortly after moving into their suburban home that it is full of malicious ghosts who abduct their 5-year-old daughter. In an effort to rescue her, the parents consult a parapsychologist and a spiritual medium. The show version of Poltergeist will be based on the world of the horror flick.

Sporting the hoodie that became a real-life apparel item, the “Kenough Doll” is sculpted from Gosling’s likeness. The doll will be made a made-to-order product, and can be purchased now on Mattel Creation, with a ship date in 2024. BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Miley Cyrus – says Billie Eilish is at the top of her wish list of people she wants to work with. Cyrus told The Sunday Mirror: “There haven’t been any conversations yet. But it’s something I’m open to, for sure.”
• Jungkook – The BTS star has released a David Guetta remix of his solo hit ‘Seven’ ft. Latto. In another treat for fans, DJ and producer MK (Marc Kinchen) has worked his magic on ‘3D (ft. Jack Harlow)’, with his house version of the popular tune. It was also recently announced that Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes have contributed to Jungkook’s debut solo album. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/25bthw58
• Blink-182 – Their new album “One More Time” has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. What makes that remarkable is the fact that the new Rolling Stones new disc “Hackney Diamonds”, released the same day (Oct. 20), only managed to premiere at #3. It’s the Stones’ 38th top-10 album. Drake’s “For All the Dogs” remains at #2.
• The Guess Who — Original members Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, who co-wrote most of the band’s biggest hits – is suing bassist Jim Kale and drummer Garry Peterson for falsely advertising “a group of hired musicians who have been touring and recording using the band’s name” and implying that Cummings and Bachman are involved. They are seeking $20 million.
• Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top – have announced they will continue their “Sharp Dressed Simple Man” tour next year. They’ve set up a 36-show US run starting March 8 in Savannah, Ga. Tickets go on sale Friday in most markets. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mrb6t7w3
• Luke Bryan – is known for pulling pranks, but during tour-ending show in Charleston SC, the high jinks were on him. Opening acts Ashley Cooke and Hailey Whitters teamed up to surprise Bryan by joining him on stage dressed in hilarious blow-up costumes that gave the illusion that they were riding a horse. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mtkku8pw
• Bailey Zimmerman – Has announced new dates for his (so far) sold-out 2024 “Religiously. The Tour”. Additional cities include Lubbock, Texas; Waukee, Iowa; Raleigh NC, New Braunfels TX, Wilmington NC, and Durant, OK. BTW, of his time on the road with Morgan Wallen, Hardy, Ernest and Parker McCollum, Zimmerman said: “We’re kind of all just like best buds out there really…It’s so much fun. We’re constantly getting so lit.”
• Oliver Anthony – has shared some details on his upcoming first album. On Instagram, he posted a photo of some trees, and told fans he’s been spending time in the woods, writing. He also revealed he’ll “be recording my first official album in January. Going to be recording outdoors…” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/24zs74b9
SHOOTING THE BULL
MONEY MATTERS:
➢ A new study suggests “spenders” are happier, but “savers” are wiser. The poll of 2,000 American shoppers found 56% consider themselves to be “spenders” — splurging for things they really want, while 34% think of themselves as “savers” who won’t shop until what they want goes on sale – or becomes a necessity. 10% were somewhere in between. Overall, spenders were found to be happier, by a margin of about 77% to 62%. But savers seem to have the upper hand when it comes to managing their money — only 29% of their total annual income is used on miscellaneous purchases, while spenders use up 38% of their income. (And some savers find that their wife spends half their income anyway…right, dear?)
➢ According to a new poll, we’re getting a little tired of seemingly being asked to tip in unconventional situations. In a survey of 1,000 adults in the US, 3 in 4 respondents said they think the practice of tipping for service is simply getting out of control. 56% feel pressure to tip when the option pops up on a screen during cashless checkout. And 47% said that these days, they find themselves tipping for services they normally wouldn’t, because the screen told them to. What’s more, 3 in 5 said they’d be willing to pay more for their goods just so they never have to tip again! (Which sorta defeats the purpose of complaining about tipping, but I get their point!)

SAD SONGS SOOTHE SO MUCH:
It has often been said that music can soothe the soul. But it turns out that it can also soothe your physical pain. Researchers at McGill University in Montreal found that listening to favorite songs can reduce people’s perceptions of pain. In a study, test subjects we found to experience a reduction in pain of about 10% when listening to music they enjoy. And the most effective pain relievers were found to be sad songs. The researchers also pointed out that music provides many other health benefits, including stress reduction and helping facilitate a good night’s sleep.
(…and trust me, as a dad of teen girls, some of songs can also CAUSE pain!)
(…and with some music, just like slamming your head on a wall, the pain relief comes when you stop!)

COUNTING DOWN:
The clocks go back an hour early Sunday morning (in most of North America and some other countries), and even though it means an extra hour of sleep, the adjustment can be difficult. Struggling to sleep can affect physical and mental health. To help, sports medicine physician Dr. Jess Andrade suggests the “10-3-2-1-0” sleep method. Here’s how it works:
• 10: Finish consuming caffeine about 10 hours before bedtime. (I’m only getting my caffeine intake WARMED UP 10 hours before bedtime!)
• 3: Finishing big meals and drinking alcohol 3 hours before bed. This can help reduce reflux, and alcohol impairs your natural sleep cycle, reducing good quality sleep.
• 2: Spend the last 2 hours of the evening attempting to “relax the brain, and write down all tasks for the next day (in order to) give your brain a mental rest.”
• 1: One hour before bed, reduce electronics, as the blue light disrupts the body’s natural sleep cycle.”
• 0: If you follow this method, zero should be “the number of times you will hit the snooze button in the morning”, says the good doctor.
(I just wish the number zero was for the number of times I have to get up and go pee!)

SMELL TEST:
It seems that everyone either LOVES or HATES each of these odors. What say you?
☞ Gasoline: Does it smell it the sweet adventure a road trip — or straight up chemicals from the ground? (Smells expensive to me…)
☞ Pen ink on your hands: Does it smell like the first day of school — or the worst day of school? (This is a thing?)
☞ Permanent marker: Considering it’s “permanent”, I hope you like it!
☞ Marijuana: Does it smell like nectar of the gods — or burned grass? (Or does it just smell like [***Afternoon guy***]?)
☞ Incense: Do you think it smells sickly sweet — or kinda sacred?
☞ Freshly cut grass: As if there is any arguing this one…
☞ That new car smell: Nauseatingly awful — or very, very niiiice?
☞ Coffee: Does it smell like a beautiful breakfast — or a Monday morning? (It depends on whether you’re smelling it off someone else’s breath or not…)
☞ A new book: Does it smell like magic and a promise – or dead trees and a lot of work?
☞ Vinegar: Deliciously sour – or…uh…just sour?
☞ Play-Doh: Does it smell like vanilla doughy goodness — or putty?
☞ Mud: Does it smell earthy — or dirty?
☞ Nail polish remover: Does it smell clean – or chemical-y?

DID YOU KNOW?
Japanese scientists say their new study has finally proven (contrary to some previous research) that “warming up” muscles before exercise really does improve performance. They say that one of the most exciting aspects of their research is its potential application to the elderly population. Incorporating appropriate warm-up routines into the daily lives of seniors could significantly improve their muscle and exercise performance. This, in turn, could reduce the risk of injury, and help maintain their independence. (My Grandma has been trying to “warm up” for years…!)

BS CHRONOMETER 11.01.23
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Movember” begins today, the annual event involving the growing of moustaches during November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. The idea began in an Australian bar in 2003 when 2 guys challenged their friends to join them in growing ’staches for charity. LINK: https://movember.com/
• “Day of the Dead” (begins, runs through Nov. 2), a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. It involves family and friends gathering to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.
• “All Hallows” or “All Saints’ Day” (begun in 835 AD), a Roman Catholic ‘Holy Day of Obligation’ (aren’t they all?). It’s a public holiday in the Philippines, when families gather to honor the dead.
• “Brush Day”, celebrated on the day after Halloween, to reinforce the importance of children’s oral health and promote good tooth-brushing habits. Today, parents are encouraged to make sure their kids brush their teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day. (Let me know how THAT goes…)
• “Authors Day”, celebrating literature in all its forms and to show your appreciation for the hard work put in by the authors behind your favorite writings. (Thank you, Richard Scarry!)
• “Give Up Your Shoulds Day”. So often, we spend so much time thinking about the things we “should” do—like exercising, eating healthier, making more money, being more organized—that we become stressed, and feel guilty or sad. Today, give up thinking about at least one thing you “should” do.
• “Go Cook For Your Pets Day”, because it’s apparently not enough to house them, train them, exercise them, and clean up after them … now they need haute cuisine!
• “World Vegan Day”, for celebrating veganism, a term invented by Donald Watson in 1944. True vegans do not eat meat, fish, dairy products, or eggs; nor do they use any products derived from animals, such as fur or leather.
• “National Vinegar Day”, this common household product brightens many salads, is used in canning, and can shine up a window, too! There are many varieties of vinegar, including: Apple cider * Balsamic * Beer * Cane * Coconut * Date * Distilled vinegar * East Asian black * Flavored vinegar * Fruit * Honey * Job’s tears * Kiwifruit * Kombucha * Malt * Palm * Raisin* Rice * Spirit vinegar * Sherry vinegar * White * Wine *
• “Scented Candle Day”. Used as part of home decor, their fragrances create an ambiance and evoke moods such as peace, tranquility, coziness, fond memories, and romance. A scented candle may be uplifting or may promote relaxation. (And sometimes, they can even cover up the smell of whatever it was that I just cooked!)
