★ The movie soundtrack from “The Lord Of the Rings” saga has been voted best of all time for the 6th year running. The music for the Oscar-winning trilogy, composed by Howard Shore, beat out the scores from “Schindler’s List”, “Gladiator”, “Star Wars”, and “Out of Africa”. Music by “Star Wars” composer/conductor John Williams picked up 8 slots in the poll’s top 30, including his scores for “Jurassic Park”, “Saving Private Ryan”, and “ET: The Extra-Terrestrial”.

★ Acclaimed songwriter/producer T Bone Burnett has signed on compose the tunes for the upcoming Roy Rogers musical “Happy Trails”. The stage show about late singer/cowboy actor Rogers and his wife Dale Evans is currently in development and Burnett has been hired to replace Alan Menken & Glenn Slater, who departed the Broadway-bound project due to scheduling conflicts. The cast and opening date are to be announced in the next few months.

★ And BBC-TV currently owns the rights to the UK version of “The Voice”, but it’s just revealed that the upcoming 5th season beginning in January will be the last on the network. A rep has confirmed the show has been ‘poached by another broadcaster’. Speculation is that broadcaster is BBC competitor ITV, which plans to air it in place of Simon Cowell’s ailing “The X Factor”, since it has suffered a huge ratings slump this season.

• “Giller Prize” (CBC) – The annual prize awards $100,000 to the author of the best Canadian novel or short story of the year. 5 titles have been named to this year’s Scotiabank Giller Prize short list. Each finalist gets $10,000. The award gala is hosted by Rick Mercer.
• “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC/CityTV) – Chris Cornell (“Higher Truth”).
• “Last Call With Carson Daly” (NBC) – Yo La Tengo (“I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One”).

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele – She’s amassed a slew of accolades over the years, including Grammys, Brit Awards, and an Oscar for the 2013 ‘Bond’ theme “Skyfall”. She’s just revealed she keeps the Academy Award in her bedroom, but all of her other trophies decorate … her bathroom.
• Coldplay – A new reports suggests the band’s latest track, “Adventure Of a Lifetime”, is a nod to frontman Chris Martin’s former relationship with actress Jennifer Lawrence. The two dated on-and-off for most of 2015. Note the lyrics: “You make me feel like I’m alive again.”
• Mariah Carey – Her new children’s book based on her 1994 holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is published today. It coincides with the Hallmark Channel special “Mariah Carey’s Christmas Project”, a movie she directed and stars in that’s coming in December.
• Stone Temple Pilots – Chester Bennington has quit. The Linkin Park singer has fronted the band since Scott Weiland was kicked out in 2013, but Monday Bennington confirmed he is leaving so he can focus his efforts on Linkin Park.

• “Trainwreck” ( R-Rated Comedy ): Comedian Amy Schumer’s semi-autobiographical movie centers around a commitment-phobic career woman who has to finally face her fears when she meets a good guy. Director Judd Apatow. Co-stars Bill Hader, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn. Cameos from Daniel Radcliffe, LeBron James, Marisa Tomei, Matthew Broderick, Method Man.
• “Terminator: Genisys” ( PG-13 Action Thriller ): Arnold Schwarzenegger warned us “I’ll be back” and he is as the “Terminator” series is renewed by director Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”, “Thor: The Dark World”). In this 5th installment, ‘John Connor’ sends ‘Kyle Reese’ back in time to 1984. Co-stars Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney.

LIVING ALONE IS BAD FOR YOUR DIET:
Living alone has its perks … being able to shower whenever you want, stocking the DVR with only shows you like, eating cereal for dinner without judgment. But about that last bit: Australian researchers at Queensland University of Technology say that living sans roommates is terrible for your diet. A review of over 40 previous studies has found that bachelors and bachelorettes eat fewer fruits, vegetables, and fish; and have lower food diversity overall. Unsurprisingly, men living alone are more likely than women to have unhealthy diets. Researchers think singles may lack motivation to grocery shop or cook; and that often leads them to prepare simple foods or order ready-made meals lacking key nutrients. (Pizza, they mean pizza.)

MEN WITH BEARDS ARE MORE OFTEN SEXIST:
There may be a link between growing facial hair and wanting to look traditionally masculine. A new Australian study reveals that men who treasure the rugged masculinity of a bushy beard may also treasure patriarchy. Research shows that men with beards have a greater tendency to hold sexist attitudes than their clean-shaven counterparts. Previous research has indicated that facial hair is linked with perceived masculinity, and the researchers hypothesize that growing a beard may appeal to sexist men because it reinforces gender differences, potentially reinforcing their feelings of male dominance in society. (But, most importantly, hiding a weak chin.)
