★ Veronica Mars actor Brad Bufanda has died by suicide at the age of 34. In a statement, his representative, Kirsten Solem, said, “We are completely devastated for he was an extremely talented young actor and wonderful, caring human being. He was reviving his career having just completed two movies, and we are shocked and saddened by his passing.” Brad Bufanda also appeared in the TV shows ‘Malcolm in the Middle’, ‘CSI: Miami’ and ‘Days of Our Lives’, and had a role in movie ‘A Cinderella Story’, which starred Hilary Duff. He played Felix Toombs on ‘Veronica Mars’ during its first two seasons.

★ Lou Diamond Phillips faces a driving while intoxicated charge in Texas for an incident that happened just hours before he appeared at a speaking engagement in Corpus Christi. Police in Portland arrested Phillips around 1:30 a.m. Friday. Jail records show the “La Bamba” star was freed after posting bail, which had been set at $2,500.

★ Alec Baldwin is stepping back from Twitter after comments he made about Rose McGowan in an interview with PBS News Hour were criticized online. ★ Alec and Hilaria Baldwin are expecting a baby boy. Just a day after they revealed they were expecting an addition to their family, the couple announced that their fourth child together will be a boy. ★ Jessica Alba’s Honest Company will be the litigators for a change after suing the makers of a baby doll for allegedly infringing on its brand name and floral pattern. The business is accusing fellow Delaware firm JAKKS Pacific of trying to make people think their line of ‘Honestly Cute’ toddler toys and strollers are associated with them. In June, Alba’s company agreed to pay $1.55 million to settle a class action lawsuit which claimed it misled customers about ingredients contained in its laundry detergent, dish soap and multipurpose cleaner.

★ Warner Brothers Television are reportedly in early talks with Amazon Studios about bringing a live-action ‘Lord Of The Rings’ series to the streaming platform, based on the J.R.R. Tolkien novel series of the same name. The show would come on the heels of the hugely successful film series, which snatched 17 Oscars, and the follow-up ‘Hobbit’ film series which also did incredibly well in the box office.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift – Along with the announcement of her next single, ‘Call It What You Want’, she has also revealed plans for a pop-up store in New York City starting on November 12. Along with sweatshirts, hats, and snake rings, the new merch also includes an item that may look familiar to eagle-eyed Swifties. Promo material includes a photo of a model wearing a long-sleeved burgundy top with a chest cutout, and a “Rep” patch across the neck. It’s eerily similar to a burgundy top that Swift (accidentally) wore backwards in 2014.
• Fifth Harmony – surprised a starstruck Sam Smith when he was guesting on James Corden’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’ last week. When Smith spoke of how much he loves Fifth Harmony, Corden pulled over and the members of the group piled in. Smith quote: “Oh my god, I’m shaking. I’m actually shaking. Oh my god, this is my dream!”
• Kelly Clarkson – says she thought she was asexual until she met her husband Brandon Blackstock because she didn’t feel sexually attracted to anyone.
• Ed Sheeran – his song ‘Photograph’ is among those getting the “Humperdinck’ treatment. Englebert Humperdinck will release ‘The Man I Want to Be’ on November 24. It will also feature a version of Bruno Mars’ ‘Just the Way You Are’, and Willie Nelson’s ‘Crazy’.
• Nicole Scherzinger – says she rarely watches TV because she takes the programs too seriously, so it is never a relaxing experience for her. Quote: “I take it all very seriously. I believe in everything that’s going on and I end up crying or getting really angry”. (Try watching ‘reality’ TV…you’ll never believe that crap!)
U2 – have announced details for a December 1 release of their new album, “Songs Of Experience”, and dates for a spring 2018 arena tour of North America, kicking off May 2 in Tulsa, OK.
• Van Halen – Just four months after saying he believed a reunion tour with Van Halen was “inevitable”, Sammy Hagar now claims he’s given up on the idea because his former bandmates failed to wish him a happy birthday this year as he reached the milestone of 70.
• The Kinks – guitarist Dave Davies is among the acts announced for the 2019 edition of the ‘Rock Legends Cruise’. Kansas and Foghat will also rock the boat Feb. 14 to 18, 2019. The Rock Legends Cruise VII will take off from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and embark to Costa Maya, Mexico, before returning to port. The 2018 edition will feature Bad Company, Todd Rundgren, Blue Öyster Cult, John Kay & Steppenwolf, Uriah Heep, Vanilla Fudge, Quiet Riot, former Triumph frontman Rik Emmett and former Lynyrd Skynyd drummer Artimus Pyle.
• Lynyrd Skynyrd – cancelled their Friday concert in Tallahassee FL because of a “medical emergency” involving Gary Rossington. The 65-year-old guitarist is the band’s only original member. Rossington has had at least two heart procedures within the past 18 months.
• The Beatles – are releasing a limited-edition box set of their Christmas holiday messages, originally given only to fan club members from 1963 to 1969. The limited edition set comes out Dec. 15, and will include seven 7-inch colored vinyl singles, one for each of the seven messages, plus reprints of the band’s newsletters from the time period. The Christmas records have never been released as a set before.
• Stone Temple Pilots – may reveal the identity of their new singer when the band takes the stage November 14 at a special invitation-only concert in Los Angeles.
• Kelsea Ballerini – She and Jason Mraz are among the performers who will be featured on CBS’s coverage of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade November 23.
• Garth Brooks – says that in putting together his life story in his ‘Anthology’ books, he has learned things about himself that even he didn’t know. The books feature insights from many musicians and people from other areas of the music industry. Part one of the 5 book series comes out November 14.
MAKIN’ BACON BETTER:
Could it be? Could there be in some version of heaven on earth, such a thing as low-fat bacon? It seems so. Chinese researchers say that they have been able to breed healthy pigs with a quarter less fat than normal swine. In an effort bid to breed pigs that would be cheaper to maintain, researchers injected an embryonic pig cell with a mouse gene that enables animals to regulate their body temperatures in cold conditions. 12 male piglets were born with the new gene. These genetically modified piglets were able to generate heat by burning fat, causing them to have less on their bodies compared to a regular pig. They found that the pigs produced a leaner meat and were better at surviving colder temperatures. The benefits of the modified pigs would be lower heating and feeding costs for pig farmers and would prevent piglets dying from the cold in winter. The leaner pigs would also produce healthier, low-fat bacon. It is too soon to say whether the genetic mutation will affect the taste of the meat. But here is a clue: The low fat pigs were created using a new gene editing technique called ‘CRISPR-Cas9′.
(And the lower-fat pigs are better at surviving colder temperatures? Like in my freezer?)
(The reason they have less fat is because of all the shivering they are doing!)
(And what would it take to get a bit of that ‘lower fat, cold doesn’t bother me’ gene therapy for myself?)

THIS IS ALL HYPOTHETICAL TO ME ANYWAY:
Among people who have money, this question always pops up: Which is wiser….to invest or to pay down debt? But maybe THIS is what they should be asking themselves: Which will make you happier? A study has found that increases in assets and decreases in debt over time both contribute to financial satisfaction. But which was the bigger contributor to financial happiness? Overwhelmingly, increasing assets, or actually spending that money, provided more satisfaction than paying down debt. But keep in mind I think they mean investing, rather than going on a wild spending spree. Although that sounds like fun too…
(Just don’t tell my wife…)
(So, money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy stuff, which is apparently the same thing…)
(Like David Lee Roth said; “Money can’t buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it.)

INTERNET SLANG DATING TERMS:
➠Benching: when you’re not into someone enough to commit to officially dating them, but you don’t want them to move on and find someone else either, so you string them along juuuust enough to keep them waiting on the sidelines. (Benching. My life in sports…and in dating…)
➠Breadcrumbing: when you send flirty but non-committal messages to a person when you’re not really interested in dating them..but don’t have the guts to break things off.
➠Catfishing: this is a term that has made its way into the mainstream, thanks to the TV show and movie of the same name. Messaging with someone who’s pretending to be someone else? You’re being catfished!
➠ Cuffing Season: the period between early fall and late winter when everyone starts to shack up with the nearest half-decent single person to ward off loneliness and cold during the cooler months.
➠ Cushioning: the process of staying in contact with one or more romantic prospects as a backup in case things don’t go smoothly with your main squeeze. (Does anyone say “main squeeze” anymore?)
➠ Firedooring: the dating version of the one-way fire door — on rare occasions, someone will send you a message or contact you in some other way, but rarely responds if you attempt to get in touch with them.
➠Ghosting: when you disappear out of someone’s life because you’re no longer interested in them, instead of telling them directly. It’s more abrupt than breadcrumbing: the ghoster will suddenly stop replying to texts and won’t answer calls. (I think I was ghosted by my friend who owes me 50 bucks!)
➠Haunting (aka ‘Zombieing’): Haunting occurs when you think you have finished things with a date that didn’t work out — or even a relationship — then you notice signs that your ex is creeping your social media feeds.
(So it’s not all Netflix and chill?)
