Little ways to make you more efficient …
✓ Walk Faster – Keeping your arms bent at a right angle (90 degrees) forces you to quicken your gait and move faster.
✓ Keep Your Naps Short – Power-napping is an easy way to reclaim midday energy. According to sleep scientists, a 10-minute nap is the optimal time to re-energize the brain.
✓ Speed Up Reading – Subvocalization, mentally saying words or even mouthing them as you read, slows your pace way down. An easy way to break the habit … chew gum while you read.
✓ Bake Your Eggs – Avoid wasting time watching a boiling pot by putting your eggs in a muffin tin and baking them in a 325-degree oven for 30 minutes. Then bathe them in cold water for 10.
✓ Warm Up Wounds – To easily peel off a bandage, blast it with a hair dryer on high heat for 20 seconds. The heat loosens the adhesive, allowing the bandage to come off effortlessly.
✓ Listen Quicker – Set your playback speed for audio books to 1½ times the normal setting. You’ll get through 50% more material in the same amount of time.

SHIFT WORK DULLS YOUR BRAIN:
The body’s internal clock is designed for us to be active in the day and asleep at night. The damaging effects of working against the body clock, from breast cancer to obesity, are well known. And now a joint team from the University of Swansea and the University of Toulouse has shown an impact on the mind as well. Their research suggests that working antisocial hours (aka night shifts) can prematurely age the brain and dull intellectual ability. A decade of shift work, for instance, can age the brain by more than 6 years. On the upside, there is hope of recovery after people stop working antisocial shifts. However, it can take as long as 5 years to return to normal. And retired shift workers still have lower sleep quality than people who have never worked nights. (Pity the person who works a ‘night shift’ above the Arctic Circle in winter!)
