Good Morning, Sheetheads!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Dr Phil McGraw has topped Forbes list of the world’s highest-paid TV hosts with an income of $79million.  Ellen DeGeneres comes in second at $77m.  Dr. Phil earned his $79 million last year thanks to his daytime talk show as well as his producing credits on CBS’ ‘The Doctors’ and ‘The Bull’.  He is also one of the executive producers on ‘DailyMail TV’.  (***SEE COMPLETE TOP 10 BELOW***)

★ The actor who plays one of the troubled Gallagher kids on “Shameless” ran into some real life trouble off set — ‘Carl’ got busted for DUI.  18-year-old actor Ethan Cutkosky — who plays William Macy’s second youngest child on the show — was arrested and booked for DUI Thursday in the L.A. area.  It’s unclear at this point if the DUI was drug or alcohol related.

★ The internet isn’t happy with Reese Witherspoon’s comments about mommy bloggers. Witherspoon said that women deserve more than just “mommy blogs and 14 ways to cook a turkey.” An army of so-called ‘mommy bloggers’ were quick to point out that their websites are exactly the kinds of spaces Witherspoon is supposedly championing.  She made the remark in a throwaway line during a speech about sexism in Hollywood at WSJ Magazine’s 2017 Innovator Awards last week.

★ Dwayne Johnson will portray DC anti-hero ‘Black Adam’ in the forthcoming film of the same name, but it seems that movie may not be the character’s first onscreen appearance.  The rumour is that Black Adam, played by The Rock, will be the main villain in ‘Suicide Squad 2’.  That film is set for a 2019 release.

★ Chris Rock‘s new material just isn’t working for some comedy patrons. Rock recently tested out a few jokes in light of the recent sexual harassment scandals, and they fell flat at New York City’s Comedy Cellar.  He joked he won’t hire women anymore because he would need witnesses around him so he wouldn’t be accused of rape.  His act also allegedly included the line: “They cry rape because they want money.”
(Yup.  Not funny.)

★ Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick has denied all claims of sexual assault, hours after ‘Californication’ actress Kristina Cohen accused him of rape.  Cohen wrote an extensive Facebook post about the alleged incident, claiming recent stories from brave women about sexual harassment gave her the courage to speak out. Westwick tweeted a response to Cohen’s claims, saying: “I do not know this woman. I have never forced myself in any manner, on any woman. I certainly have never committed rape.”

• Ed Sheeran – will be one of the stars guesting on the new album from N.E.R.D.  The group, featuring Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and Shay Haley, have a new album coming, reportedly titled ‘No One Ever Really Dies’, featuring appearances from Rihanna (on the recently released single ‘Lemon’), Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, Future, Andre 3000, Gucci Mane and more.  Complex).
• Katy Perry – is celebrating her three-night run in Los Angeles with the unveiling of a new exhibit at the Grammy Museum.  She will be part of a new display that features some of her most memorable fashion at the Los Angeles Grammy Museum. The exhibit, ‘Katy Perry Frock & Roll: Transforming Music and Fashion’, opened on Tuesday and will run through Spring.
• P. Diddy – Just a few days after Sean “Diddy” Combs said he was changing his name, he  announced on Instagram he was merely “joking.”  According to him now, because of the “overwhelming response” from the media, he decided to set the record straight that ‘Love’ or ‘Brother Love’ is merely one of his alter egos. (One of many.  Too many.)
• Kanye West – is working on a possible solution to his ongoing problems with Jay-Z and Tidal.  He may be starting his own music streaming service. Ye has been locked in a dispute with Tidal and Jay-Z after claiming he’s owed $3.5 million in unpaid advances and bonuses for his album, ‘The Life of Pablo.’
• Britney Spears – Robin Leach auctioned off her infamous painting to benefit victims of the Las Vegas shooting, but ultimately he decided to just buy it himself!  Leach plunked down $10,000 for the work of “art” Spears created last month.
• U2 – have been named this year’s MTV EMA Global Icons.  The band will perform as part of ‘MTV Presents Trafalgar Square’ on Saturday.  The MTV Europe Music Awards will air on Sunday.
• Sammy Hagar – his ocean-side Hawaiian home is on the market.  It features a pool, a spa, a guest house and room for a recording studio. There is also “access to Hawaiian fruits and vegetables growing on the grounds.” The 9.8-acre retreat, which includes a long driveway lined by palm trees, has an asking price of $3.2 million.
• Marilyn Manson – has issued a statement regarding his choice to use a fake gun as a stage prop at a concert in San Bernardino.  It says in part: “My art has always been a reaction to popular culture and my way to make people think about the horrible things that happen in this world.  My performance was not meant to be disrespectful or show any insensitivity.”
• Tim McGraw and Faith Hill – have added more than 25 dates to their ‘Soul2Soul The World Tour 2017′.  The announcement comes just before the Nov. 17 release of their first-ever album together, “The Rest of Our Life.”
• Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood – agree that throughout their decade as CMA Awards co-hosts, it has always been fun to poke fun at their fellow artists, but they especially have fun ribbing Tim McGraw.  Paisley says that McGraw and his wife Faith Hill “have [always] given us something to work with, whether that’s Barbies or cologne, or Barbies again.”  Underwood is quick to point out that Tim and Faith are also “good sports” about it.

A BRIEF FUTURE OF TIME:
Uh-oh.  The man who is generally regarded as the smartest guy on earth says that earth as we know it will no longer exist in 600 years.  Stephen Hawking, who is a theoretical physicist and a cosmologist, says that because of overcrowding and increased energy consumption, the planet will eventually become a “ball of fire” as the population rises, and the human race will become extinct.  Sooo…what are we supposed to do?  Move.  Hawking is appealing to investors to back his plans to travel to the closest star outside of our solar system, with the hope that a livable planet might be orbiting it.  Alpha Centauri is one of the closest star systems at four light-years away.  Hawking says that humans must “boldly go where no one has gone before” if we plan to continue our species.  He is backing ‘Breakthrough Starshot’, a venture to reach this system within two decades using a tiny aircraft that could travel at the speed of light.
(Maybe it can.  And maybe there are other livable planets.  But what are the odds that these spaceships have room for us all?)
(What does this guy know anyway?)
(600 years?  Doesn’t sound like much of a ‘me’ problem…)

SNOOZE NEWS:
Napping.  Is it a good thing, or a bad thing?  Studies have linked regular daytime napping with an elevated risk for type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even death. But napping can also be a good thing.  So which is it?  Michael Grandner, Ph.D., director of the Sleep and Health Research Program at the University of Arizona, says napping can be a symptom of a problem—not a problem in itself.  He says that many people nap because their sleep is poor at night and they get tired during the day.  According to him, if you sleep for more than an hour in the day regularly, something is not right about your sleep or health.  On the other hand,  a quick power nap of 20 to 30 minutes can provide a range of ‘performance-type’ benefits for both brain and body.  The key is not to lie down for too long.  Napping for longer than an hour can plunge your brain and body into the deep stages of sleep, from which you are likely to wake up feeling groggy and out of it.  There is also such a thing as a ‘genetic’ napper.  They are the people who without a daily snooze, require coffee, energy drinks, or some other artificial pick-me-up just to keep going.  Remember, napping itself is almost never a bad thing — you just have to do it right!
(My need to nap is genetic.  My kids are exhausting!)
(To me, the only bad nap is when the doorbell rings in the middle of it!)
(My napping is a symptom of a problem.  That I have to get up too darn early!)
