BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jay Leno is on to a new stage of his recovery after his horrifying car fire accident — he’s undergoing treatment in a hyperbaric chamber for his burns. The procedure requires him to lie on his back in a tube-like chamber, with his arms and hands bandaged. It helps with swelling and increases blood flow and oxygenation to the burns on his arms, shoulders, neck and face. Dr. Peter Grossman of the Grossman Burn Center said the process will also decrease bacteria around the injuries. Leno suffered second and third-degree burns when an antique car erupted into flames while he was working on it in his Burbank garage. Earlier this week, the doc said Jay had one surgery to repair his skin, and would undergo another this week. Leno is expected to make a full recovery, and is said to be up and moving…and he even found time to make a few jokes and pass out cookies to kids being treated at the hospital.

★ Abby De La Rosa is clearing up any confusion. The DJ became a mother of 3 on Nov. 11 after welcoming a baby girl with ex-Nick Cannon, who is now a father of 11. But after announcing their exciting new arrival, fans were left confused by the newborn’s name. Taking to Instagram, De La Rosa clarified that her daughter’s name is — “Beautiful” — and not “Zeppelin”, as many thought. Alongside a bouquet of flowers, she wrote: “For those wondering, our daughter’s first name is ‘BEAUTIFUL’ & her middle name is ‘ZEPPELIN’ I totally understand the confusion but it’s babygirls actual name.”

★ Months after being killed by demon bats in the Upside Down, Joseph Quinn is looking to fight some more monsters. The “Stranger Things” actor is in talks to star in the upcoming “A Quiet Place” spinoff. Titled “A Quiet Place: Day One,” the film follows a different set of characters than those in the first 2 installments, with “Black Panther” star Lupita Nyong’o confirmed to play the lead character. The film’s premise is based on an idea developed by John Krasinski, who helmed the first two installments. He and his real-life wife Emily Blunt starred in the first 2 “Quiet Place” films, which were released in 2018 and 2021.

★ It’s the most wonderful sale of the year! The cast of “A Christmas Story” is looking to buy themselves a very familiar Christmas present. The home from the 1983 holiday film classic hit the market this week, and some of the cast members are looking to snatch up the property. Yano Anaya, who played ‘Grover Dill’ in the film, said to a reporter: “It only makes sense to have the cast run the show”. Though Anaya wouldn’t share which co-stars are looking to pitch in, he believes keeping the house in the Christmas Story family would be great for the fans — and no one will have to worry what could happen to the house if it’s bought by an outsider. The house, built in 1895, has been a popular tourist attraction in Cleveland, and with the sequel to the original film dropping on HBO Max, many fans are expected to make their way back to the property this holiday season, and bryond.

WHAT’S WORDS WORTH?
We’ve got a sitch here, so let’s have a convo about it. This month, the new edition of “The Official Scrabble Player’s Dictionary” comes out, and in addition to ‘sitch’ and ‘convo’, there are about 500 new words and variations that can be incorporated into the game. For example? ‘Stan’, ‘sitch’, ‘convo’, ‘zedonk’ and ‘dox’. They join more than 100,000 words in the official playbook, which was last updated in 2018. Some are shorthand, like ‘guac’. Some are newer verb variations, like: ‘torrenting’, ‘adulting’, and ‘atting’ (as in “Don’t at me, bro.”). The highest-scoring new word in the Scrabble dictionary is ‘fauxhawk’. Some other compound additions include: ‘deadname’, ‘pageview’, ‘fintech’, ‘allyship’, ‘babymoon’ and ‘subtweet’. Also new are some “uns,” such as ‘unfollow’, ‘unsub’ and ‘unmute’. Also new to the reference book, but definitely not new to most people’s vocabulary, is ‘yeehaw’.
(Well, it’ll definitely be the first time I’ve ever said “Yeehaw” while playing Scrabble…!)
(I always thought that was a pointless game. But it turns out – that was just my scorecard!)

BE PRESENT WITH YOUR PRESENTS:
As we kick off the holiday season, a new survey has found that when it comes to receiving gifts, the most important thing is – that it’s a surprise. 79% of people agreed that giving gifts is more fun when the recipient has no idea what it is. In the poll of 2,000 Americans, the “perfect gift” was also described as ‘meaningful’ by 60% of respondents, ‘useful’ by 44%, and ‘unique’ by 34%. Only 8% said they feel the best gift is funny or expensive. 81% of gift-givers feel it’s important for them to be in the room when someone is opening a present from them. And what would make the “perfect gift” even better? Nearly half believe gifts are truly the best when it’s a surprise both to the giver and the recipient — like a mystery box or blind-box item.
(…or a bag of cast-offs from the thrift shop?)
(So now you have your work cut out for you. You just need to find a gift that someone doesn’t expect, with great sentimental value, that’ll come in handy, that they’ve never seen before…and be there when they open it. Oh, and forget what it is after you wrap it, so it’ll be a surprise to you, too!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Chinese grandfather redefined the term “smoking the competition” by running an entire marathon while puffing away on cigarettes. Images of the chain-smoking athlete are lighting up Weibo — the Chinese social media platform. The 50-year-old runner, known as Mr. “Uncle Chen,” accomplished the breath-taking feat at the Xin’anjiang Marathon in Jiande, running the entire 26.2 miles while either smoking or lighting up another in a long line of cigarettes. In spite of his bad habit, and the fact that the physical act of lighting and holding a smoke doesn’t contribute to very good ‘form’, the tobacco-loving grandpa’s official time of 3 hours, 28 minutes and 45 seconds is considered “good” according to the Marathon Handbook. Uncle Chen placed 574th out of around 1,500 runners. (Puff, puff, pass. Puff, puff, pass…)
➢ A tattoo removal studio in London is offering to remove clients’ Kanye West tattoos — free of charge. NAAMA Studios tweeted: “Yeezy come, yeezy go. Got a #kanyewest tattoo? Tag us.” The studio shared the tweet alongside a photo of a man’s arm with a tattoo that says “Bye” — with the “ye” a darker shade, as a nod to Kanye’s new official name, Ye. Those who want their tattoos of West removed amid his recent controversies can contact the tattoo removal studio through email or by tagging them in their Instagram or Twitter posts. (Erase your Ye for free?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Apple’s Emergency SOS service arrived this week for users in Canada and the US. It enables stranded iPhone 14 users to use satellites to call for help when outside wireless coverage. The new Emergency SOS feature is a combination of an iOS app, hardware within the actual phone, and the network of Globalstar satellites — plus ground stations and staff. When a user is in distress and away from either Wi-Fi or a regular cell connection, they can point their iPhone at a satellite to ask for assistance. (Make sure you download the app BEFORE you need it!)
