Can You Believe This Sheet?

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are starting their own production company that promises to put creatives first — both in terms of less corporate red tape — and more money long-term. The new studio, Artists Equity, will seek to create “entrepreneurial partnerships” with filmmakers. RedBird Capital is making what’s termed “a significant financial commitment in launching the company, providing strategic capital and operational expertise. Affleck and Damon combined have generated more than $10.7 billion in worldwide box office revenue, in 110+ feature films as star or costar, 6 produced screenplays, 8 TV series as executive producer or writer, and earned 3 Academy Awards. They will lead the company.

★ O Come, all ye “Deadpool” fans, you someday might get a full Christmas movie starring the “merc with a mouth”. In an interview with The Big Issue, Reynolds revealed that he and the writers behind “Deadpool” actually wrote an entire Christmas movie for the character several years ago, but “it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox and it never got made.” Reynolds hopes that “one day” they’ll get the go-ahead to produce it. That revelation might help explain the 2018 release of “Once Upon a Deadpool,” which wasn’t a full Christmas film for the antihero, but was a PG-13, Christmas version of “Deadpool 2”.

★ Tom Cruise’s British commute is apparently disrupting the filming of the BBC drama “Call the Midwife,” according to star Jenny Agutter. In an interview with The Mirror, the actress said: “Tom Cruise keeps on ruining our filming by landing his helicopter right outside where we’re shooting.” The “Top Gun” star, who holds a pilot license, reportedly flew his helicopter over the “Midwife” set in Surrey, England, causing a ruckus while the cast attempted to shoot scenes. Cruise appears to be in town filming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.” A rep for Cruise did not immediately return a request for comment.

★ Mariah Carey’s “childhood dream” will come true when she opens Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The 52-year-old, who is known for her festive classic ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ – took to social media to alert fans that she will be performing at the department store’s annual parade in New York City on Thursday. She wrote on Instagram: “My childhood dream is coming to life! I’m going to be opening for the one and only, SANTA CLAUS, at this year’s @macys Thanksgiving day parade! Tune in on Thanksgiving Day @NBC.”

SHOOTING THE BULL

FANCY FIFA FOOTWORK:
We don’t encourage you to bet on it, but with World Cup fever sweeping the globe, a series of computer simulations has already determined the winner of the epic soccer tournament – Brazil. An international team conducted thousands of simulations using ‘machine learning technology’ (whatever THAT is…). Their forecast combined statistical models for each team’s strengths with information about their structure — things like the club’s market value and the number of players who compete in the Champions League. The simulations even factored in factors about each country, such as population and GDP. After 100,000 match-by-match simulations, following the tournament draw and all FIFA rules, the team discovered the probability of each team winning the whole thing. At 15%, Brazil has the best chance of becoming champs, according to the computer prognostications, but several other countries also have decent odds of winning the 2022 World Cup. Among them: Argentina (11.2%), the Netherlands (9.7%), Germany (9.2%), and France (9.1%).
[***Other Bull Sheet countries, and their probability of winning…***]
• England (7.4%)
• Denmark (6.5%)
• Portugal (5.5%)
• Switzerland (2.8%)
• Wales (0.8%)
• US (0.6%)
• South Korea (0.1%)
• Australia (0.1%)
• Canada (0.0%)
(So you’re sayin’ there’s a CHANCE!?!?!?)
(So what they’re telling us is that the USA has the same chance of winning the tournament as their fans do of finding a beer at a stadium!)

BLIND LOVE:
Looks aren’t everything. You’ve heard that saying, but do you actually believe it? According to a survey by online dating service Match, the traits singles are looking for have nothing to do with looks. In fact, there are 5 qualities people are looking for in a potential partner, ahead of good looks, according to Match data. They are…
• someone they can trust and confide in (94%)
• someone who is comfortable communicating their wants and needs (92%)
• someone who is emotionally mature (92%)
• someone who can make them laugh (92%)
• someone who is comfortable with their own sexuality (89%)
(Now THAT’S ironic — I’d be better off if they wanted someone with good looks!)
(Well, I’m definitely glad that the fact that I’m broke doesn’t seem to be a problem!)

PLEASE NOTE, NOTE-TAKERS:
One of the great “school hacks” that students of the 21st century have been able to take advantage of is the opportunity to use their phones to take pictures of a teacher’s lecture slides. It’s much easier than traditional note-taking, and definitely more accurate. It also helps students recall the information being presented, according to a new study. University of California researchers found that taking a photo helps students better remember both the slide AND spoken-word content presented by the instructor. While the study did not explain why taking photos helps with memory retention, the study authors suggest that “the predictability of taking a photo” periodically “enabled participants to pay more attention” while in class. The results were even observed among students who never referred back to their photos in preparation for an exam.
(…except for the 94% of students who pretended to be taking pics, when they were actually checking Insta or making a TikTok!)
(And in my kid’s case, the photos work better, because unlike his notes, he can read them!)
