Sheeters Always Prosper!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Kim Kardashian showed up to Tracee Ellis Ross’ pre-Halloween birthday dinner dressed as “X-Men” character ‘Mystique’ — only to find out no one else was in costume. She captioned a selfie with the “Black-ish” star on her Instagram Story: “That time I showed up to a birthday dinner in full costume when it wasn’t a costume party!” The photo showed Kardashian wearing a red wig, creepy colored contact lenses and a skintight blue latex bodysuit. While she looked unrecognizable, apart from her famous curves, Ross was unmistakably herself, wearing a red sequined jumpsuit with a matching jacket. Kardashian added in her post: “Happy Birthday to the most beautiful kind soul @traceellisross.” The actress turned 50 on Saturday.

★ Kanye West could be just months from financial catastrophe, says a report. As he is dropped by corporations and condemned by industry figures, sources say that while he has a large stash of cash, he also has huge expenses and could be in trouble soon if he doesn’t find a way to turn the tide. Apparently, he has 5 sources of income, and 4 of them have been either completely shut down or badly compromised by his anti-Semitic outburst and support for white supremacists. In recent years, West has made money from his massive Adidas deal, his Gap deal, his music catalogue, selling new music and concerts. Adidas, the real engine for his enormous wealth, has already said that it will immediately halt payments.

★ Constance Wu spoke out in support of Amber Heard last week, claiming that she has tried to do so before but her remarks were cut from media coverage. Wu wonders why interviewers did not use her quotes on the matter of the sensationalized trial between Heard and Johnny Depp this year. Wu responded to a tweet by an NBC News reporter which stated that Phoebe Bridgers is “one of the only prominent celebrities/artists to speak up about the double standards and victim-blaming in online culture around Amber Heard.” Wu wrote: “I’ve spoken up about the misogynist vilification of [Heard] to a few interviewers, but it’s always been left out of their final published articles. Could be [because] it wasn’t relevant to the article’s topic, BUT also could be telling in and of itself…”

★ Simon Cowell credits his son with saving his life after he became “obsessed” with work. The music mogul, who is behind the “Got Talent” shows and “The X Factor”, said he was “really unhappy” until Eric, his son with fiancée Lauren Silverman, was born 8 years ago, because his life was “99% work”. Cowell says it got to the point where he didn’t enjoy what he was doing and he “was miserable the whole time”, “obsessed with beating the competition” and was “terrified” of burn-out. But now that Eric is around, he says he doesn’t work through the night anymore. Quote: “If he hadn’t come along, God knows what would have happened.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele — is only a Tony away from reaching EGOT status, and she has an idea of what musical she could star in to complete the quad-fecta. Quote: “I’m not a massive Broadway fan, but “I saw [Gypsy] in London and I did love the role of the mum in it.” On the other hand, she pointed out: “I actually prefer the sound of an EGO than an EGOT. EGO is fun.”
• Machine Gun Kelly – The trailer for his new semi-autographical film “Taurus” is out. It follows the life of a troubled rising star as he seeks inspiration for his next record while grappling with addiction and the dark sides of fame. The movie will also feature music from MGK. It will be released in theaters and On Demand Nov. 18. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3hyb6pea
• Duran Duran – at the premiere of their new docu-film “A Hollywood High,” they teased a 2023 tour. In an onstage chat, John Taylor said “We will be coming back to the Los Angeles area. We are going to be in Europe, we are going to be in the U.K.” Roger Taylor added that the band will hit “all the cities that we didn’t do in the U.S.” this year.
• Taylor Hawkins — hoped to be playing Foo Fighters songs with Dave Grohl into their 70s. In the new documentary “Let There Be Drums” Hawkins is seen discussing his future, saying that while it’ll be difficult to play Foo Fighters songs in later years, they’ll probably slow them down a bit. In light of Hawkins’ death at 50 this year, director Justin Kreutzmann says it’s crushing to watch the scene now.
• Iggy Pop — has released the new song ‘Frenzy’ featuring Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers. It will appear on an upcoming, as-yet untitled Pop album. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/wy2kuxb7
• Lainey Wilson – For her new album “Bell Bottom Blues”, which dropped Friday, she wrote more than 300 songs for consideration. Quote: “We were locked and loaded when it came to having enough to choose from.” She has announced a 27-city headlining tour starting in Jan.
• Dan + Shay — Shay Mooney has shared on his Instagram Stories that he has lost nearly 50 pounds in the last 5 months as a result of “Eating clean/not drinking alcohol and walking 7 miles a day. And some weights. That’s it!”
• Vince Gill – is among the artists who will be inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2022. Also in this year’s class: Ray Stevens, Marty Stuart, and ‘American Pie’ hitmaker Don McLean. The induction ceremony will take place Nov. 22 in Nashville.
SHOOTING THE BULL
ZMAIL:
Gen Zers are known for their laid-back attitude, and they’re bringing it to the workplace. That’s evident in the clothes they wear – and more recently in their emails. TikToks with millions of views show younger workers have moved away from ending their emails with a traditional “sincerely,” “best” or “let me know your thoughts.” Instead, Gen Zers (those up to age 25) are coming up with casual closers such as “lukewarm regards,” “see yas later,” or “alright, alright, alright”, which for some, brings up questions about their professionalism in the workplace. Another Gen Z signoff featured in a video posted by Chicago-based athleisure company Fox & Robin, with more than 17 million views, is: “Let me know if you have any questions! Or don’t.” Tommy Flaim, who founded the company, said “We’re all human, we’re not robots, so I think people found it refreshing to be able to talk more freely while still getting the work done.” Some other novel work email signoffs noted include: “hehe bye”, “Seeyas later”, and “Another day, another slay”.
(Fine. But if I get one more email ending with the word “Yeet”, they’re gone!)
(Around here, we’re lucky if a Gen Zer bothers to send an email at all!)

FOOTBALL FAN CLUB:
➢ Americans take football so seriously that half of them have actually ended a friendship over a rivalry. A survey of 2,000 football fans examined how respondents celebrate game day, finding that 52% have called it quits with a friend because they support their favorite team’s rival. And when their team loses, it takes an average of 3 days to get over the loss. And as inflation continues to soar, half of football fans plan to “homegate” [tailgating at home] this year. (The only problem with that is — when you spill a beer, it’s YOU that has to clean it up!)
➢ A determined football (soccer) fan spent 35 hours sitting on every single seat at his team’s 42,000-capacity stadium to raise money for charity. 42-year-old Simon Osborn took 4½ days to complete the mammoth challenge of parking his butt on all 42,785 seats at Villa Park in Birmingham, England. Osborn said he was left in “complete agony” following the accomplishment, having spent an average of 2 seconds in each seat while making his way around the Premier League stadium. He was raising money for Aston Villa FC’s Dementia Activity Café. Quote: “I flew through the first 4,000 seats – but then the pain kicked in.” (Not as painful as sitting in one while his team is actually playing, though!)

LAUNDRO-BOT:
Thanks, science! Robots may soon be able to help us do the laundry and other household tasks, because a new technique has given them the sense of touch. The system, called ReSkin, enables robots to differentiate between objects – such as thin layers of cloth – using only their sense of touch, something that is second nature for humans. Until now, tasks such as grabbing a glass or folding towels have been “extremely challenging” for robots, according to a team at Carnegie Mellon University. To fold laundry, robots need a sensor to mimic the way human fingers can feel the top layer of a towel or shirt and grasp the layers beneath it. The team developed a touch-sensing skin made of a thin, elastic polymer embedded with magnetic particles that give a sense of touch. However, the researchers stress the need for more research before robots are ready to handle a real laundry basket.
(Maybe they could also do some research on my teenagers and figure out why they can’t handle one either!)
(So…back to ruining my laundry myself?)

SLEEP MISTAKES TO AVOID, WHICH WILL MAKE THE TIME CHANGE EVEN WORSE:
The clocks go back an hour early Sunday morning (in most of North America and some other countries), and even though it means an extra hour, the adjustment can be difficult. Here are some things that make it even worse…
✗ Using technology before bed: You’ve heard it before. Avoid all screens for at least 30 minutes before turning in. This might require putting your phone on ‘do not disturb’. (My wife puts ME on ‘do not disturb’ around then, too!)
✗ Not creating a comfortable sleeping environment: Whether it’s noise, scent, temperature or even your bed sheets, be aware of your sleep environment so you can identify anything that will keep you at night. Fix what you need to fix. (And THAT’S why I’m not allowed to cook for my family…)
✗ Getting into bed without having a shower or bath: A warm bath promotes sleep quality. Put on some soothing music and add a few drops of essential oil. It’ll also help soothe and relax you after a long day.
✗ Evening workouts: Avoid vigorous exercise for 90 minutes before bedtime. Instead, opt for pilates, yoga or an evening walk, if you feel the need to expend energy. (You had me 100% onboard until that part about the pilates or the yoga, or the walk!)
✗ Eating before bed: Taking in calories after 8pm not only increases the risk of obesity, it negatively affects sleep. Acid reflux and other stomach problems from eating too late can do the same. (Plus the resultant bathroom break…)
✗ Cranking up the heat: The optimum temperature for good quality sleep is 16-18°C 61-65°F). Anything warmer can impact the quality of your sleep. (This is NOT going to go over well at my house!)
✗ Not investing in winter nightwear: Summer nightwear, such as shorts and night dresses, aren’t appropriate for the winter months. Consider long silk pyjama sets, which preserve warmth, but are lightweight. (After that part about ‘16 degrees’, I’m going with a parka!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A huge storm in space striking the Earth could lead to an “internet apocalypse” within the next decade, researchers in Australia warn. This radiation would leave people offline for months or even years, knocking out satellites and power lines, their study explains. The mysterious, unpredictable, and potentially devastating event has been mapped for the first time — using tree rings. Forests are a great observatory for cosmic radiation, with an archive going back thousands of years. The scientists calculated that there’s a 1% chance of such an event happening in the next 10 years. Unfortunately, there is no way to predict just when, or how severe it will be.

BS CHRONOMETER 11.01.22
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Movember” begins today, the annual event involving the growing of moustaches during November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. The idea began in an Australian bar in 2003 when 2 guys challenged their friends to join them in growing ’staches for charity. LINK: https://movember.com/
• “Day of the Dead” (begins, runs through Nov. 2), a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. It involves family and friends gathering to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.
• “All Hallows” or “All Saints’ Day” (begun in 835 AD), a Roman Catholic ‘Holy Day of Obligation’ (aren’t they all?). It’s a public holiday in the Philippines, when families gather to honor the dead.
• “Brush Day”, celebrated on the day after Halloween, to reinforce the importance of children’s oral health and promote good tooth-brushing habits. Today, parents are encouraged to make sure their kids brush their teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day. (Let me know how THAT goes…)
• “Authors Day”, celebrating literature in all its forms and to show your appreciation for the hard work put in by the authors behind your favorite writings. (Thank you, Richard Scarry!)
• “Give Up Your Shoulds Day”, So often, we spend so much time thinking about the things we “should” do—like exercising, eating healthier, making more money, being more organized—that we become stressed, and feel guilty and sad. Today, give up thinking about at least one thing you “should” do.
• “Go Cook For Your Pets Day”, because it’s apparently not enough to house them, train them, exercise them, and clean up after them … now they need haute cuisine!
• “World Vegan Day”, for celebrating veganism, a term invented by Donald Watson in 1944. True vegans do not eat meat, fish, dairy products, or eggs; nor do they use any products derived from animals, such as fur or leather.
• “National Vinegar Day”, this common household product brightens many salads, is used in canning, and can shine up a window, too! There are many varieties of vinegar, including: Apple cider * Balsamic * Beer * Cane * Coconut * Date * Distilled vinegar * East Asian black * Flavored vinegar * Fruit * Honey * Job’s tears * Kiwifruit * Kombucha * Malt * Palm * Raisin* Rice * Spirit vinegar * Sherry vinegar * White * Wine *
