BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Blake Lively had a savage response after her hubby Ryan Reynolds announced he is taking a break from moviemaking. Fresh off finishing production on “Spirited”, an Apple TV+ re-imaging of “A Christmas Carol”, Reynolds announced it is time for “a little sabbatical”. On Insta, he wrote: “Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making.” While others, from Hugh Jackman to Spencer herself, praised his talents in response, Lively had a sharper reaction to the news, writing, “Michael Caine did it first”, a reference to the Oscar-winner’s recent announcement that he has retired from acting. Reynolds has been a busy guy lately. He just starred in Fox’s “Free Guy” and will next be seen in “Red Notice” alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot.

★ NBC has temporarily halted production on the new spinoff series “America’s Got Talent: Extreme” after a stunt gone wrong. The shutdown comes after stuntman Jonathan Goodwin was airlifted to hospital following an accident on Thursday. The stunt, in which Goodwin was strapped in a straitjacket and suspended in the air with two cars on each side of him, rigged to crash into each other. Although he freed and unhooked himself to fall onto the airbag below, the timing was off and Goodwin was sandwiched between the vehicles, which set off a rigged explosive. He underwent surgery and remained in critical condition in the trauma ward.

★ Superman is officially moving on from “the American Way.” Jim Lee, chief creative officer and publisher of DC, has announced that the Man of Steel’s motto will be “evolving” from the well-known mantra that he fights for “Truth, Justice and the American Way.” Superman’s new “mission statement” is: “Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow.” The company says the decision is meant “to better reflect the storylines” and to honor “Superman’s legacy of over 80 years of building a better world.”

★ Angelina Jolie has big ambitions for her new book. She recently published, “Know Your Rights and Claim Them: A Guide for Youth” in partnership with Amnesty International and British human rights lawyer Geraldine Van Bueren. In a recent interview, Jolie said she hopes the book will provide young people the tools to “fight back” for their rights. Quote: “So many children are in harm’s way across the world and we’re simply not doing enough. These are their rights, decided years ago based on what would make them healthy, balanced, safe and stable adults.”

• Drake – His “Certified Lover Boy” has bounced back to the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart for a 4th nonconsecutive week at #1. Certified Lover Boy spent its first 3 weeks at the top beginning Sept. 18, then slipped to #2 for 2 weeks, as YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s “Sincerely, Kentrell” debuted at #1, and Taylor Swift’s “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” returned to #1 for a week.
• Adele – Upon release last Thurs., her single ‘Easy on Me’ broke the Spotify record for most streams in a day. The music service has not yet revealed the exact number of global streams the song garnered, but BTS’ ‘Butter’ previously held the record for most single-day streams, with 20.9 million.
• Michael Jackson – After losing his passport in the early ‘90s, he had to apply for a replacement — and now that document is up for sale at “Moments in Time”. He included 4 Polaroids and his signature in the application, which can be yours for $75,000.
• Coldplay – Chris Martin says the group spent 20 years trying to write a decent Bond theme, but admits the 5 songs they came up with weren’t “very good”. Quote: “I don’t know if we’re spiritually on the same trip as James. As much as I like the films, I don’t know if us singing would do it for him.”
• Judas Priest – singer Rob Halford’s cancer is in remission. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year during lockdown, and says “Things happen for a reason as far as time sequence of events. I have nothing but gratitude to be at this point in my life, still doing what I love the most.”
• The Beatles — are on TikTok. Fans now can choose from 36 of the group’s songs to soundtrack their clips on the video-sharing app, including ‘Hey Jude’, ‘Love Me Do’, ‘The Long and Winding Road,’ ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’, and ‘Eleanor Rigby’.
• Kacey Musgraves – has commented on the fact that her album “Star Crossed” was ruled ineligible for the best country album category at the 2022 Grammys. On Twitter, she captioned a photo of her as a young girl sporting a pink cowboy hat and a smile with the words: “You can take the girl out of the country (genre), but you can’t take the country out of the girl.”
• Hunter Hayes – will drop the 6-song EP “Wild Blue Complete” on Friday. In 2019, he released “Wild Blue (Part I).” At the time, it was supposed to be part of a trilogy, but nothing has been released since then.
• Jimmie Allen – He and his wife, Alexis welcomed their second daughter, Zara James Allen, on Saturday. Prior to her arrival, Allen posted on Instagram that Saturday’s show in Forest City, N.C., would be rescheduled due to a “family emergency.” Later, Allen put fans’ minds at ease by sharing a baby emoji.

TIK TOK TIC:
Doctors in several countries are reporting an alarming rise in teen girls developing tics…and they’re blaming – wait for it – TikTok. The rise began around the start of the pandemic and has alarmed and puzzled doctors, who report the patients exhibiting “physical jerking movements and verbal outbursts.” One thing the teens all had in common was they had been watching TikTok videos of people who said they had Tourette syndrome. Tourette’s is a nervous-system disorder that can cause the repetitive, involuntary movements, or sounds. It usually mostly impacts males. Some medical centers are seeing as many as 10 times their usual cases of tics, with one doctor saying she noticed many patients blurting out the word “beans” with a British accent, even patients who didn’t speak English. Eventually, she learned that one top British TikTok’er would blurt out the word “beans.” Experts say what’s happening isn’t Tourette’s, but a functional movement disorder, and while someone is not likely to develop a tic by watching one video, TikTok’s algorithm means kids are seeing similar videos repeatedly.
(If TikTok causes tics, I’d hate to see what you get from using Twitch!)

➢ If you like the idea of chilling and watching Netflix all day — while getting paid – here’s your gig. UK luxury bed company Crafted Beds is currently accepting applications for a mattress tester. Yes, you could make £24,000 (US $33K) per year lying down. The company says the role has been created to ensure that its customers are getting the best mattress they can. The lucky mattress tester will be required to work a full 37½ hour week, testing a different mattress each week, taking notes and making assessments on how comfortable they are. The mattress testing role will be remote, meaning that you can “work” from home. (But what would you do on your day off?)
➢ A UK casino site is hiring someone to watch every episode of “The Simpsons.” Why? Platin Casino says it is looking for a Simpsons Series Analyst to help it further investigate the “well-known phenomenon that The Simpsons has predicted major life events.” The animated show has been credited with foreseeing Donald Trump’s presidency and even the coronavirus pandemic. In an attempt to “See what 2022 will hold”, The Simpsons Series Analyst will be required to watch and analyze all episodes from the show’s 33 seasons, plus the Simpsons spinoff movie. Platin predicts it will take 8 weeks to get through the more than 280 hours of footage. The successful candidate will be asked to “take notes on stand-out storylines” to help the company’s “team of prediction experts” evaluate the “probability of each one happening” in real life. The pay? Nearly $7,000 — and a weekly box of donuts. (That’s a lot of D’oh…in more ways than one!)

Halloween brings us some scary stuff every year. And the very thought of THIS might be the scariest thing ever. How would you like to try candy corn-stuffed sausage? Jenifer St. Market in Madison, Wisconsin, is selling the newly whipped-up treat just in time for Halloween. The Spooktoberfest brat consists of sausage meat mixed with beer and stuffed with literal pieces of candy corn. The first-ever Balloon World Cup tournament took place last week in Spain, attended by players from 32 countries. That’s right, a world championship for the game you’ve played around the house where you bop around helium-free balloons in an attempt at keeping them from touching the ground. Organizers pulled out all the stops for the celebration of balloonery, even placing a bunch of living room furniture on a stage where the final game took place for authenticity. No word on whether players were punished if they broke vases or precious family heirlooms while leaping across furniture to keep their balloons in the air, as they surely did at home while practicing.
