Let’s See What BS We Can SCARE Up…!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ HBO is green-lighting a new “Game of Thrones” prequel after reportedly cancelling another that starred Naomi Watts. The cable channel has announced that it’s given a 10-episode order to “House of the Dragon,” set 300 years before the original series that ended its eight-season run in May. The prequel is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood”. HBO declined comment on reports that it had dropped another “Game of Thrones” prequel set thousands of years before the original. A pilot episode starring Watts had been filmed in Northern Ireland.

★ Many-time “Jeopardy!” champion James Holzhauer now knows his return date to the game show and whom he’ll face. Holzhauer will play the game again in next month’s “Tournament of Champions,” with Wednesday, Nov. 6 marking his first time back at the buzzer since that long winning-streak ended in June. The woman who ended it, Emma Boettcher, will also play in the tournament. Ken Jennings, the only competitor to ever win more “Jeopardy!” games than Holzhauer, is not in this one.
-MSN
★ Jennifer Aniston is ”working on something” with her “Friends” co-stars. Speaking on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, she said: ”We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.” Aniston has previously said that they never did a Friends movie because the ”producers wouldn’t want it”.

★ Sony is planning for a fall 2020 launch for “The Good Dish”, which grew out of popular segments on Dr. Mehmet Oz’s daytime show that offer recipes and kitchen shortcuts. “The Chew” veteran (and daughter of DR. Oz) Daphne Oz, Vanessa Williams, “Top Chef” judge Gail Simmons and chef and former “Next Food Star” winner Jamika Pessoa will host the series.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Haim – Say their new single ‘Now I’m In It’ is about ”spiraling” into depression. The group shared how their battle with their mental health and being ”stuck in a dark hole” inspired the emotional song. They’ve promised that they have ”many more jams” coming out this year.
• Louis Tomlinson — collects ”random” movie props. He told James Cordon: “The best thing that I have and I’m pretty proud about this … I’ve got the leg braces from ‘Forrest Gump’.” Also in his collection: A sword from “Kill Bill”.
• Miley Cyrus – Her godmother Dolly Parton wanted Miley to play Jolene in Netflix’s “Heartstrings”. Parton wanted her to play Julianne Hough’s part of the homewrecker in the series which is inspired by her music, but “Miley was doing other things.” Parton adds that Hough is “great” in the role.
• Robbie Williams – says he’d be happy to get in the ring with his old foe Liam Gallagher for a charity boxing match. Williams says he has been “boxing and sparring”, so “obviously I’d win…He’d go down in the third round, I reckon.
• John Legend – has recorded a version of the holiday song ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ with Kelly Clarkson for his upcoming album “A Legendary Christmas: The Deluxe Edition”. The song has been a topic of conversation in recent years due to its lyrics, but he worked around that problem by rewriting the words to include a message of consent.
• Ozzy Osbourne – his new album will be released in January, according to wife/manager Sharon Osbourne. He recently spoke of how he’d been inspired to return to the studio after working with Post Malone on ‘Take What You Want’.
• Kacey Musgraves — wrapped the North American leg of her “Oh, What a World Tour II” at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena with a sold-out show that drew a record crowd of 18,373. That marks the largest attendance for any show by a female artist from any genre at the Bridgestone.
• Miranda Lambert – has finally revealed how she met her husband, Brendan McLoughlin. She says she met the New York police officer on the set of “GMA”, but it wasn’t until he turned up at her Pistol Annies concert that the two hit it off. How did they meet there? Quote: “My girlfriends, the Annies…knew I might be ready to hang out with someone. They invited him to our show behind my back!”

CLEAN YOUR FACEBOOK:
Facebook and Instagram are cracking down on eggplants. Or at least the ‘eggplant’ emoji. In July, the social media giants quietly updated their Community Standards language regarding permissible sexual expression, and now, the use of certain emoji pairings, such as an eggplant with a peach, now qualifies as “sexual solicitation”. Doing so can get a user’s account flagged or removed. Nude photos where emojis cover “private parts” are also now formally not allowed. While some have expressed concern with the new standards, which bans a number of other commonly used “sexual emojis or emoji strings”, one reporter claims that the new guidelines are so far-reaching that they could be used to ban posting of the scene in “Austin Powers” where Mike Myers asks “Do I make you horny?”
(***Caution*** Am I still allowed to message someone: “What’s up?”)
(Emoji pairings?  I don’t even know what the ‘pear’ emoji looks like!)
(I just went through my emojis, and it turns out if your mind is dirty enough, EVERY emoji is suggestive!)

HALLOWEEN WITH A BANG:
The residents of Vancouver, BC have a longstanding tradition, not typically seen in other parts of the world, of setting off fireworks at Halloween. But now that tradition could be extinguished after a city councilor put forward a motion proposing to outlaw the sale of fireworks in the days leading up to Oct. 31. Though response from the public on the matter has been divided, one of the strongest viewpoints was put forth by a historical researcher, who wrote that the ritual has been associated at times with “mayhem, hooliganism, riots, severe burns and the occasional death” since its inception more than 100 years ago.
According to the motion, fireworks in urban areas can cause anxiety in wildlife, pets and humans and their use should be limited to large public events. The motion is set to be voted on Nov. 5.
(I lived in [Hicksville] for 8 years. They have a longstanding tradition of setting off fireworks every weekend!)
(So you just buy your fireworks a few weeks early?)
(It’s not like kids can’t find something else to do…)

THE TRUTH ACCORDING TO TRICK-OR-TREATERS:
• Lots of decorations means good candy because it shows residents spend a lot on Halloween.
• It’s always better to choose your candy than to have someone else choose it for you.
• Old people are either very generous or give you one peanut. There is no in-between.
• The cuter the costume, the more candy you get.
• Snickers are good loot. Toothbrushes are not a ‘treat’.
• Pillowcases hold twice as much as plastic bags and 3 times as much as plastic pumpkins.
• Don’t get stuck behind little kids at the door. They take forever to decide.
• People serve the good stuff first. The longer you stay out, the worse the candy gets.
• When parents chaperone, moms say things like “Be careful” and “Remember your manners.” Dads say “What’d ya get?” Dads also stay out later than moms.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Halloween”, a longtime tradition in Canada, Ireland, the UK, and the USA. Some believe its origins come from a Celtic festival for the dead called “Samhain.” Celts believed the ghosts of the dead roamed Earth on this holiday, so people would dress in costumes and leave “treats” out on their front doors to appease the roaming spirits.

• “Caramel Apple Day”, saluting the tasty Fall treat made by dipping apples on a stick into hot caramel (or Kraft Caramels back in the day). Not many people hand them out to trick-or-treaters anymore, but you can enjoy one yourself!

• “Carve a Pumpkin Day”, this is your last chance to carve a pumpkin because Halloween is tonight. Pull out your patterns and get to work. (Or try carving a turnip…that’s what the Irish originally carved faces into…)

• “Day of the Dead” (begins, runs through Nov. 2), a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.

• “International Magic Day,” traditionally a day for magicians to meet, celebrated on the anniversary of Harry Houdini’s death on October 31st, 1926.

• “International UNICEF Day”, observed on October 31st since 1967, the reason many trick-or-treaters collect donations in UNICEF coin boxes.

• “Girl Scout Founder’s Day”, Juliette Gordon Low, also known as Daisy, who was born on October 31, 1860, was the founder of Girl Scouts of the USA.

• “Knock-Knock Jokes Day”, celebrating their momentous contribution to the comedy world.
Two of the worst:
1. “Knock-Knock.” “Who’s there?”  “Cows go.”  “Cows go who?”  “No, silly.  Cows go Moo.”
2. “Knock-knock.”  “Who’s there?”  “Interrupting pirate.”  “Interrupt…” “ARRRRRRRRR!”

BS TRICK OR TWEET:
(Actual tweets about Halloween that’ll make you howl …)
• The scariest Halloween costume I can think of is “regular adult who wants to show you how well they play piano”.
• Skeletons are a weird costume because you already got one of those in your body so you’re pretty much a bone-Oreo with skin frosting.
• If I pay $40 for a haunted house I better die.
• If you really want to scare everyone this Halloween, dress up as intimacy.
• Halloween is coming up and I still have no idea what I’m going to be for the rest of my life.
• Idea for haunted house: Dimly-lit grocery store sprinkled with people you haven’t talked to since high school.
• My daughters used to wear inappropriately sexy costumes for Halloween but now that they’re 16 they only dress that way all the time.
• Friend: “What should I be for Halloween? Me: “My designated driver.”
• For Halloween I’m going as that feeling you get at a store when you try to refold a sweater properly and put it back on the shelf.
• Haunted house idea: You walking down a narrow hallway with Cheerios stuck to your sweatpants while your ex and his new family walk in front of you.
