BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The weeks-long fight inside Netflix came to a head yesterday, as employees staged a walkout, demanding the company better support its trans and non-binary employees. Two weeks after the debut of Dave Chappelle’s standup special “The Closer”, the streaming giant is still grappling with internal backlash, and the walkout is the latest episode of employee unrest surrounding the special. Many on Netflix’s staff were angered by Chappelle’s special, criticizing it as transphobic and harmful to transgender people. Netflix’s chief executives, Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos, have been steadfast in their support of Chappelle in communications with staff, and have argued that his special has been popular with subscribers and would not lead to real-world harm.

★ Gal Gadot described to Elle in detail her reaction when, she says, director Joss Whedon “threatened” her career during reshoots for “Justice League”. While she has described what she called her “experience” with him before, she’s never been so candid about how his alleged actions impacted her. Quote: “I was shocked by the way that he spoke to me. You’re dizzy because you can’t believe this was just said to you. And if he says it to me, then obviously he says it to many other people.” She previously said that Whedon “kind of threatened my career and said if I did something, he would make my career miserable.” Whedon has denied any wrongdoing.

★ “Ozark” is ready to go out with a bang. Netflix has revealed the acclaimed drama’s fourth and final season will return on January 21. Season 4 will be released in two parts, consisting of 7 episodes each. The series follows financial advisor ‘Marty Byrde’ as he moves his family from Chicago to the Ozarks of Missouri after a money-laundering scheme doesn’t go as planned.

★ After 40 years, “History of the World, Part I” is finally getting a Part II. Hulu has ordered a variety series follow-up to the classic Mel Brooks comedy film. “History of the World, Part II” is described as a sequel to the 1981 movie. The original was made up of segments set during different periods of world history, including the Stone Age, Ancient Rome, and the French Revolution. Like most of Brooks’ work, it also featured musical numbers, including one about the Spanish Inquisition and, of course, “Jews in Space.” Production on part 2 is slated to begin in Spring 2022.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Kanye West—celebrated a judge signing off on his official name change to ‘Ye’ by going a little clipper-happy. Having travelled to Venice to perform at Tiffany exec Alexandre Arnault’s wedding last weekend, Ye’s unusual hairstyle was concealed by a bevy of latex caricature masks, but now, he has unveiled his new look on Instagram, and it can only be described as resembling skid marks on a racetrack. • The Weeknd – has teased a brief snippet of the new song ‘Moth to a Flame’, a collaboration with electronic supergroup Swedish House Mafia. The song will drop sometime “this week.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/48cjsy78
• Celine Dion – has been forced to delay the opening of her show at the new Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas because she is experiencing “severe and persistent muscle spasms.” Her medical team continues to evaluate and treat her. The affected performances run Nov. 5-20 and Jan. 19- Feb. 5.
• Billy Idol – He and Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor are joining forces in a supergroup playing Sex Pistols and Lou Reed albums. On December 20, they’ll play benefit gig in LA, performing “Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols” and “Transformer”. Proceeds will go to MusiCares. Also in the band: Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro from Jane’s Addiction, plus Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
• Duran Duran – Simon LeBon says their 1980s music videos would get them “cancelled” in today’s climate. They earned a reputation for their racy and glamorous promos, and LeBon says: “’Girls On Film’ was the one that got the censors because we had naked ladies in it. Nobody would make that video now because you’re liable to be cancelled or ‘Me Too-ed.'”
• Chuck Berry — Dualtone Records marked his birthday by announcing a live album from the late rock ’n roll legend. “Live From Blueberry Hill” is taken from performances recorded in 2005-06 at Blueberry Hill café in St. Louis, one of his favorite places to play. The album will be released Dec. 17. Berry’s 95th birthday would have been Monday.
• Elvie Shane — is celebrating his first #1 with his debut single ‘My Boy’, which hit the top of both the Mediabase/Country Aircheck Singles chart and Billboard’s Country Airplay chart this week. The song was inspired by Shane’s stepson. His debut full-length album “Backslider” drops on Oct. 29.
• Morgan Wallen – will headline 3 Country Thunder festivals next year. After canceling his summer 2021 appearances, it has been announced that Wallen will headline Country Thunder Arizona in Florence (April 7-10, 2022), Country Thunder Wisconsin in Twin Lakes (July 21-24) and Country Thunder Florida in Kissimmee (Oct. 21-23). He is the first headliner announced for the festivals.
• Garth Brooks –will perform 2 intimate shows Nov. 19 and 20 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. “Garth, the Ryman & You” will feature Brooks telling the stories behind his songs as he performs for fans in an up-close-and-personal setting. The venue is not being sold to capacity to allow for social distancing, and COVID-19 protocols will apply.
SHOOTING THE BULL
HANDOUT DISCUSSION:
We all have our favorite Halloween candy…and we’re all aware of those people who decide to do the neighborhood kids a ‘big favor’ and hand our “healthy” candy to the costumed crusaders on the 31st. But here’s the thing: Even though the person who hands out apples or other stuff that’s “good for you” on Halloween THINKS they are doing the right thing, nutritionists don’t advise doing so. Here’s why: Tracy Lockwood Beckerman, author of “Better Period Food Solution,” says: “What may be more important than the nutritional composition is the relationship to eating it. You don’t want to deprive your children of the real deal, or else they may go scrounging for it without your supervision and eat large quantities. And that can lead…to an upset stomach, or in the long term, disordered eating issues with candy or sweet treats.” The benefits of a healthy relationship with sweets may “far outweigh the nutritional components in each candy serving.” Bottom line: Since sweets should be enjoyed in moderation, most people should have the chance to enjoy the Halloween treats they like best.
(As if moderation was an option…!)
(And remember: Dad should always check to make sure ALL treats are safe before they are eaten. Especially the full-size chocolate bars!)

TECH TALK:
➢ Facebook is planning to hire up to 10,000 workers in Europe to build a “metaverse” that will combine virtual and augmented reality technologies in a new online realm. The company says development will take place over 5 years. The idea behind the metaverse is to create a space similar to the internet, where users (via digital avatars) can walk around and interact with one another in real time. In theory, users could sit around a virtual meeting table with remote colleagues, then walk over to a virtual Starbucks to meet up with a friend who lives in another country. The tech giant is also planning a rebrand with a new name focused on the development of the metaverse. (If this seems creepy to you, just remember who runs the company!)
➢ ‘Ghostface’ has come to TikTok. One of the signature elements of Wes Craven’s “Scream films” is the creepy stranger playing mind games with a character over the phone. Now, through a partnership with Paramount, Roger Jackson, the original voice of Ghostface, has lent his voice to TikTok’s text-to-speech feature. That means you can have the iconic villain read your words in a video. The Ghostface TikTok voice not only comes right on time for Halloween, but also just after the release of the trailer for the series’ fifth film, simply titled “Scream”. (Do you like scary TikToks?) SNEEZE IN THE BREEZE:
Of COURSE it does. Windy weather can speed up the spread of COVID virus particles, according to a new study. Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay say gusts blowing in the same direction as someone’s cough increase transmission of the virus. With that in mind, the study also finds people who don’t regularly wear a face mask outside should consider it, particularly in breezy conditions. The team also suggests people follow other safety recommendations while in public and in open air, such as coughing into their elbow and turning their face away from others.
(Is this the part where they also tell us to leave the mask on when we sneeze?)
(Can you imagine what other particles of God-knows-what come out when we sneeze or cough — that they haven’t even thought of studying? I think I’ll start wearing a mask ALL THE TIME!)

DID YOU KNOW?
You probably share your home with at least 100 kinds of bugs – and cleaning more often won’t change a thing. According to a study published in Scientific Reports, basically, if you live in a ground floor apartment, with carpet and windows, and you wear shoes inside, you might as well have invited them in. The good news? “A growing body of evidence suggests some modern ailments are connected with our lack of exposure to wider biological diversity, particularly microorganisms. And insects may play a role in hosting and spreading that microbial diversity indoors.”
