BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ A Kobe Bryant-autographed NBA floorboard sold for way more than its pre-auction estimate of half a million dollars on the weekend … going to a final bidder $631,200! And according to reports, the consignor will donate 10% of proceeds from the sale to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation. The hardwood floor section features Bryant’s original jersey number, 8 — painted in white, outlined in Lakers purple, and signed by the L.A. legend before he walked off the court he dominated on for nearly 2 decades.

★ Regis Philbin was “depressed” prior to his passing earlier this year, according to pal and former co-worker Kathie Lee Gifford. She said that “He had been depressed in the weeks and months earlier, because of (Covid-19). Regis couldn’t perform anywhere; nobody was out and about. He couldn’t be Regis for people, and it broke his heart.” Gifford added that his wife Joy had told her that, “one of his dearest friends had just recently died of Covid, so he was pretty much in a depression…Regis just lived to make people happy.”

★ The “Borat” sequel is being released on Amazon Prime on October 23. In the film, Sacha Baron Cohen reprises his role as Kazakh TV journalist ‘Borat Sagdiyev’. “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” (and that’s the SHORT version of the title) was the first movie made during the COVID-19 shutdown. Production teams flew to various parts of the US and internationally for shooting, and according to reports, Cohen risked his life multiple times for the project and had to wear a bulletproof vest on two separate filming days.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Lana Del Rey — received a barrage of criticism online after wearing what appeared to be a mesh face mask while meeting with fans at an LA Barnes & Noble store. Fans were quick to comment, urging her to wear a proper mask and condemning her for having an in-person event that drew a large crowd.
• Kanye West — LL Cool J is not impressed by Ye’s viral video, in which he places one of his Grammy statues in toilet bowl and proceeds to urinate on it in protest of recording artists’ restrictive contracts. The 5-time Grammy host says West could have expressed his that opinion with more dignity and respectfulness.
• Usher – On Saturday, he released his uplifting new song ‘This Day’ featuring Kiana Ledé. It will appear in the upcoming Netflix original holiday movie “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey”, arriving Nov. 13. The song will also appear on the soundtrack, which features original music by John Legend.
• Jon Bon Jovi – wishes Richie Sambora was still a member of Bon Jovi, but says there is a positive side to his absence. He says it was because of Sambora’s “inability to get it together anymore that we went on and wrote ‘This House Is Not For Sale’.” He described the band’s 2016 album as “a very strong record” and suggested that his feelings on Sambora contributed to his ability “to write songs like this.”
• Mötley Crüe — Drummer Tommy Lee says he was drinking “two gallons” of alcohol a day prior to his most recent rehab stint. He broke four years of sobriety in 2019 when he began drinking “out of boredom”. He’ll soon celebrate his one-year anniversary of sobriety.
• Rush – While Geddy Lee doesn’t have immediate plans for a second solo album, he doesn’t rule it out at some point. After recently re-releasing his 2000 album “My Favourite Headache” on vinyl, he says, QUOTE: “That forced me to listen to it again. I’m very proud of it…But I have no firm plans to do anything right now.”
• Miranda Lambert – is giving fans a look at the making of her 2019 album “Wildcard” with a 13-minute mini-documentary, available on YouTube. During a break from the road, she married Brendan McLoughlin and began spending time in New York City, which she credits as major inspiration for Wildcard.
• Morgan Wallen – will be the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend. Comedian Bill Burr will host.
• Brothers Osborne — will release their third studio album “Skeletons” this Friday. John and TJ Osborne had a hand in writing all 12 tracks, including the lead single ‘All Night’.
WEIR-DOUGH:
A Brooklyn, NY pizza shop is has added “positive reinforcement” to its menu to help out customers who need a mental lift. For the added price of one dollar, Vinnie’s Pizzeria is offering a side of “comforting words”. In their online ads, the restaurant says “Our delivery driver will look you straight in the eyes and tell you ‘EVERYTHING’S GONNA BE OK AND YOU’RE DOING THE BEST YOU CAN.’ ” Someone on Instagram asked whether a pizza purchase is required to receive encouragement, and Vinnie’s responded: “There’s a $15 minimum so you’d have to order 15 comforting sentences. But if you’d like only 1, you can order it as a pickup and we’ll tell you how great you’re doing from our pickup window.”
(I guess it’s all in the delivery!)
(Truthfully, if you’re getting your therapy from a pizza delivery, you’re definitely NOT ‘doing the best you can’!)
(Is this what they mean by giving someone a pizza your mind? Sorry…)

CORONAUPDATE:
➢ For people making their own face coverings at home, the biggest question usually is what fabric to use. While some materials may be more comfortable than others, a new study finds most homemade masks are doing the job just fine…even if the wearer sneezes. Researchers from the University of Illinois found that a homemade mask can block infectious droplets (even from sneezing) with as few as one layer. With two or three layers, even the more permeable fabrics, such as T-shirt cloth, achieve droplet-blocking efficiency similar to that of a medical mask, while still maintaining comparable or better breathability. (But if you DO sneeze, it’s recommended you wash it!)
➢ A study published in the “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” took a look at the effects of the coronavirus on domestic dogs and cats. Researchers found that both dogs and cats can be infected by the virus that causes Covid-19 in humans, but none of the ten animals observed in the study showed symptoms like coughing, sneezing or fever. While dogs don’t seem to spread the disease, coronavirus-infected cats do, to other animals. So far, there are no cases of pet-to-human transmission of the coronavirus, and human-to-pet transmission seems rare. (Although it’s believed you can catch the “lazies” from your cat…)

HEALTH MYTHS – DEBUNKED:
✗ You should wash your hands in hot water: It’s more the soap and the rubbing action than the temp of the water that gets your hands clean. You don’t need to burn your hands to get them clean. (What about getting the dishes clean?)
✗ Going in and out of air conditioning can make you sick: If you feel congested or start sniffling when you go in and out, it’s likely due to summer allergies. (Good, because I’ve turned the A/C on and off 25 times in the last 2 weeks!
✗ You need to drink 8 glasses of water a day: You need about 3 liters of liquid per day, but getting enough water isn’t just about drinking glasses of it; It also includes all the water found in foods and drinks. (And ice cubes??)
✗ Slim = healthy: We really have very little control over the size and shape of our bodies. Overweight people who are active can be healthier and live longer than slimmer people who don’t exercise. (Especially if the slimmer people make fat jokes!)
✗ The flu vaccine doesn’t work: Although effectiveness varies from year to year, it averages about 60%. And if you do get the flu after having the shot, it is likely to be less severe.
✗ You should be detoxing: Your system already has a built-in detoxifier, your liver. Products like shakes and juices marketed for “detoxing” are bogus.
✗ You need to go carb-free to lose weight: It’s more about portions. Don’t be afraid to eat carbohydrates, but stick to this ratio: fill 1/2 of your plate with fruits and vegetables, 1/4 with whole grains, and 1/4 with a lean protein source. (The first or the second plate?)
✗ Some people never get sick: It may seem that way, but everyone gets sick at some point. And no one should think they are so healthy that they put themselves at risk by avoiding vaccines or checkups (Or masks…)

DID YOU KNOW?
UK-based supermarket Waitrose is being slammed for selling bouquets of “autumn seasonal foliage” at £6 (US $7.50) apiece. What is ‘autumn seasonal foliage’? Photos of various tree leaves packaged in transparent plastic foil and arranged like flower bouquets have gone viral, drawing ire from outraged social media users, who pointed out that tree leaves can literally be picked up from the street this time of year, and accusing the supermarket of trying to make money by selling something that is actually free.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Mad Hatter Day”, described as ‘April Fool’s Day’ without the pranks, it’s an opportunity to celebrate silliness. The date was chosen from illustrations depicting the ‘Mad Hatter’ character from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” wearing a hat with a slip of paper that reads: “In this style 10/6”
• “German-American Day”, honoring the likes of Albert Einstein, Lou Gehrig, John Steinbeck, and Levi Strauss. In fact, German-Americans make up 16% of the total US population. Prosit!
• “Physician Assistant Day”, honoring all those nice people who order you to take off all your clothes and put the gown on. And make sure the opening’s at the back!
• “Come and Take It Day”, a day to go out and take something that you’ve always wanted, or to defiantly say “come and take it” to someone who wants something from you that you do not wish to give up.
• “Garlic Lovers Day”, saluting the ‘stinking rose’ that has been cultivated as long as history has been recorded. A few stinky facts …
→ Over 5,000 years ago, Chinese herbalists used garlic to reduce blood pressure.
→ In Medieval times, it was believed that garlic worn as a necklace would stop your soul from leaving your body.
→ Spraying yourself with garlic oil will repel mosquitoes.
→ It’s said that if you rub a clove on garlic on your partner’s feet at night, you’ll taste it on his or her breath the next morning.

TODAY’S SLICE OF BS:
➠ Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has checked into hospital with COVID-19. (Which explains why the hospital cafeteria is flying its flag at half-mast…)
➠ According to a media research expert, “Yahoo! News” came out on top in a poll to determine the most trusted news network. (But then again, finding the most trusted news network is kind of like determining the most stable ex-Disney star…)
➠ A study shows that organic food actually has very few health benefits over non-organic foods. (However, what it lacks in extra nutrition, it makes up for in pretentiousness.)
➠ Diet experts claim that cheese and coffee could be the cause of most people’s headaches. (Sure! That makes sense . . . if “cheese and coffee” is code for “wife’s incessant blathering.”)
➠ A Louisiana man dressed in a chipmunk outfit robbed a pharmacy, and police are asking for help finding him. (Could be a win-win. If he’s caught, he’ll end up in the nuthouse…)
