You Really Know Your Sheet!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
(***CAUTION: “f’n”***) ★ Tom Bergeron has weighed on the recent comments that George Takei made about William Shatner’s space flight, and he says Takei should “get a f’n life.” During a radio appearance, Bergeron threw some shade at the “Star Trek” actor, saying, “It was a show that was off the air in ’69. I get that at the conventions they make you think you were the star, but you weren’t.” He later offered a take on the longstanding feud between Takei and Shatner, saying of the former, “When you gnaw on a bitter pill for 40 years it gets stuck in your teeth.”

★ Disney has announced a slew of release date changes, including yet another delay for “Indiana Jones 5.” The currently untitled sequel was first set for release in 2019, and has now been delayed 4 times to its new release date of June 30, 2023. That means that when the “Indiana Jones” sequel finally hits theaters, star Harrison Ford will be just 2 weeks shy of his 82nd birthday.

★ Longtime Judge Judy bailiff Petri Hawkins-Byrd may have parted ways with Judge Judy Sheindlin after 25 years, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to walk away from the courtroom for good. As Sheindlin partners with a new bailiff for her upcoming series “Judy Justice”, Hawkins-Byrd is said to be eyeing a role in a new courtroom TV series. A rep says there is already some talk of bringing Hawkins-Byrd, who recently appeared on an episode of “The Bold and the Beautiful”, onboard a new show, with several producers said to be “showing interest.”

★ Kobe Bryant’s legacy will live on in the form of media, clothes, trading cards and more. His widow, Vanessa has filed to trademark “KB24” with the intention of creating a sports and entertainment empire surrounding her late husband’s name. She submitted docs earlier this month to lock in the trademark for digital collectible items, websites, training camps, broadcasting platforms, podcasts, TV shows, movies, documentaries and music — as well as sports cards, food and drink containers and t-shirts.

SHOOTING THE BULL

TANKS FOR THE MEMORIES:
The iconic Nokia 6310 ‘Brick’ cellphone has been re-released for its 20th anniversary. Despite an upgrade in specs, anyone over 25 will simply be happy to know that the phone will, indeed, feature the legendary ‘Snake’ game that they played on their parents’ phone back in the day. First launched in 2001, the seemingly indestructible 6310 was discontinued in 2005. The Nokia website says: “The new Nokia 6310 takes the iconic silhouette of the original and brings it up to date with some great new additions such as a large curved screen, improved readability and accessibility, plus a host of classic features you know and love: a wireless FM radio, an impressive battery that can go weeks between charges, and let’s not forget the classic Snake.” The display is just 2.8 inches, although that’s still a full inch larger than the original 6310’s (and the new one is full color). The rear camera is 0.3 megapixels; internal storage is limited to 8 megabytes. Lol. How much? Just US $50. How much did you pay for your iPhone again?
(I’m glad to hear this. I’m also pretty sure I have a charger for it in the “junk drawer”!)
(Once, I was bored and hit my old Nokia with a hammer. It broke, obviously. So, I took it in to get it fixed, and the woman at the counter told me they can’t fix hammers…)

STAY IN YOUR LANE, FOOD MAKERS:
⇒ For years, people have been using ketchup as a fake blood substitute for Halloween. Enter Heinz “Tomato Blood”, a seasonal product launched last year, which was simply the brand’s classic tomato ketchup with a spooky package design. Now, Heinz is taking things a step further with the launch of its own makeup kit. The “Heinz Tomato Blood Costume Kit”, comes in a Halloween-themed box with a makeup palette, sponge, dropper, makeup brush set, rhinestone sheet, tattoo sheet, vampire wings, spooky eyelashes, and, of course, a bottle of Tomato Blood — for $19.99 online. (Do I keep that in the refrigerator, or no?)
⇒ Nestlé, the maker of Coffee Mate, has teamed up with Kellogg’s to create a Rice Krispies Treats-flavored coffee creamer. The new addition to Coffee Mate’s ever-growing portfolio features notes of marshmallow and toasted cereal for the perfect sweet pairing for your morning brew. The Rice Krispies Treats flavor will hit store shelves in January. Oh, by the way, Nestlé is working on another cereal-inspired collaboration. Be on the lookout for Froot Loops Cereal-flavored milk, too. (Awesome…milk that tastes like the crud that’s leftover at the bottom of the bowl. You’re right, that’s the BEST part!)
⇒ Mayo maker Hellmann’s left Twitter in a tizzy when it suggested that adding a bit of mayonnaise to your morning cup of coffee creates a delightful flavor combination. Yeah, right. Hellmann’s official Twitter account posted this simple message: “Mayo in your coffee. That’s it. That’s the tweet.” While many in the Twitterverse came up with their own snappy comebacks and funny memes, no one’s was better than that of an 80-year-old legendary singer. Dionne Warwick, known for her sassy tweets, took a pretty clear stance on the matter. She simply wrote: “I am blocking this account.” In case anyone doubted that she’d actually go through with it, Warwick posted a follow up, reading: “It took me 40 minutes to remember how to do this”, and showed a screenshot of the blocked Hellmann’s page.

GAMERS: THIS ‘WORKS OUT’ NICELY:
Spending a lot of time playing video games isn’t something that you usually associate with fitness, but according to a new study, if you play the right kind of games, you can actually improve your health by as much as you do while jogging. Researchers from the University of Bath found that playing “active” video games produces similar health benefits to exercising on a treadmill. Active video games, or “exergames,” require the player to use body movements in order to control the game to score points. While traditional gaming gets a bad reputation for encouraging a sedentary lifestyle and too much screen time, researchers say playing exergames on systems like the Nintendo Wii and Xbox can even help type 1 diabetes patients stay healthy. Additionally, they discovered that type 1 diabetics also find active gaming more enjoyable than traditional exercise, and have more motivation to participate.
(Of course, all this is assuming that you aren’t devouring a bag of Doritos and a bottle of Mountain Dew while you’re playing…)
(Plus, you don’t have to buy workout clothes!)
(And if you learn to play those games while using a treadmill, your workout will be TWICE as good!)
