Here’s More Bull Roar!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
• Did late screen siren Marilyn Monroe have a little work done? She’s always been perceived a natural beauty but a set X-rays and a file of doctors’ notes that are going up for auction seem to confirm she indeed had cosmetic surgery, particularly on her chin and nose. The X-rays are dated June 7, 1962, when Monroe saw a plastic surgeon following a late-night fall. Julien’s Auctions are selling the X-rays and reports as part of a November 9th sale. They are expected to fetch between $15,000-and-$30,000. (Apparently her other parts were real.)
– USAToday.com
• Miley Cyrus has received a million-dollar offer from an adult film company, quote: “GameLink would like to offer you the very lucrative opportunity to direct an adult film, giving you full creative control, for 1 million dollars. We at GameLink feel this gives you a chance to finally show the world you are not a little girl anymore.” So far, no comment from the Cyrus camp. (Likely because she needs them a lot less than they need her.)
– TMZ.com
• Simon Cowell has invited ‘90s singer Sinead O’Connor to guest on “The X Factor” after she accused him of ‘murdering music’ during an Irish TV interview. After targeting Miley Cyrus last week, O’Connor also blamed Cowell and TV singing competitions for the downfall of the music industry. Taking to Twitter, Cowell has written sarcastically: “I think Sinead O’Connor would be a real fun guest judge on ‘X Factor’. She loves the show and everything I do.” (If they let her go on and spit some fire, it might actually make it worth watching!)
– WENN.com
• And the Robertson family on AMC’s “Duck Dynasty” have always been simple folks with a humble, genuine attitude that’s made their show a smash hit. But according to a new report, fame-hungry Willie Robertson has ignited a family feud that could end the show. He’s already spear-headed deals for books and a Christmas album, and wants them to keep building a bigger empire, but the rest of the clan is increasingly wary of the spotlight. Patriarch Phil as well as Willie’s brothers Jase & Jep have already expressed interest in the show continuing without them. (Will they be a victim of their own success?)

TOTAL TAKEOVER:
A car that takes control of the steering wheel when it detects the risk of a collision is being tested at a Ford research facility in Germany. The ‘Obstacle Avoidance System’ is designed to first issue a warning, then take charge of the vehicle if the driver fails to react. The system uses 3 radars, ultrasonic sensors, and a camera to scan up to 200 meters (650 feet) ahead. When necessary, it applies the brakes, scans for a gap in the road ahead, and steers to avoid a crash. Analysts think it may be another step along the way to ‘driver-less cars’. (What we really need is a ‘backseat driver-less car’.)

OUR PETS ARE PORKY:
It may seem cute when a pup is pudgy or a cat is fat, but pet obesity is a serious epidemic that can shorten your pet’s life. Obesity increases a dog’s or cat’s risk of heart and respiratory disease, insulin resistance, and Type 2 diabetes, just like humans. A survey by the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention has found that fully 55% of cats and dogs are either obese or overweight. Veterinarians say pet obesity can be prevented. It’s as simple as cutting back on the table scraps you feed your pet and making sure your four-legged friend gets plenty of exercise. (Just like humans.)

TIGHT GENES:
The secret to a happy marriage may be in your DNA. A newly released 13-year study of married people and their genotypes by the University of California-Berkeley has found that those with a certain type of gene variant are less likely to tolerate emotional discord in their marriage, while those with a different type of variant are less bothered by it. Researchers stress their findings don’t mean couples with different genetic variations are incompatible, just that they are more likely to thrive during good times in their relationships and to suffer during bad ones. (Is this the ‘Misery Gene’?)

(If you travel abroad, you’ll notice non-English speakers of different languages using English as a common denominator, ie: someone Chinese speaking bad English to someone Portuguese.)
• “International Skeptics Day”. We’re not sure there’s really any point to this or that it accomplishes anything at all really.

BULL’S BITS

BEST CANADIAN THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS:
• Always referring to it as ‘Canadian’ Thanksgiving.
• Smelling roast turkey outdoors after traveling to the family cottage, cabin, or farm.
• Playing road hockey with all your cousins, yelling ‘car!’ every couple of minutes.
• Red sumac beside the highway.
• Everywhere you look … ‘Punkin’s For Sale’.
• Watching the annual Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day Parade on CTV.
• Instead of looking forward to Black Friday every year like Americans, looking forward to a white Christmas every year.
• Eating dinner during half-time of the CFL’s annual Toronto/Hamilton grudge match.
• Watching CBC’s Rick Mercer lampoon the best Canadian Thanksgiving traditions.

BS SIGNS YOU SHOULD GET MORE SLEEP:
● You think those night classes you’ve been attending are actually morning classes.
● Your entire pre-noon vocabulary consists of “Uh?” and “Uh huh”.
● Your dresses don’t match your bags … around your eyes.
● You keep waking up face-down on a drool-filled tablet screen.
● You brushed your teeth with Preparation H and your cordless shaver’s in the toaster.
● Your alarm clock goes off BEFORE you go to bed.
● You once yawned and sucked in a Buick.

BS PHONE STARTER:
Daniel Snyder, owner of the NFL’s Washington Redskins, has written a letter to season-ticket holders defending the team’s nickname. The Oneida Nation is running an aggressive campaign against what is seen as a demeaning term for First Nations people and has invited Snyder to a planned meeting between the NFL and the Oneidas. Snyder says the ‘heritage’ must be preserved as the team has used the name since 1932. What say you? What other sports team names could be objectionable? (Atlanta Braves? Cleveland Indians? Kansas City Chiefs?)

BS RANDOM JOKE:
Women don’t make fools of men; most of them are the do-it-yourself types.

BS WATER COOLER QUESTION:
Question: One-third of us say we do THIS every single day.
Answer: Nap.

BS DEEP THOUGHT:
People do not change, they only become more so.
