BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
• Could this be the hottest couple in show biz right now? Rumors about “Sports Illustrated” swimsuit model Kate Upton dating “Dancing With the Stars” choreographer Maksim Chmerkovskiy have been confirmed as the dancer has opened up about their relationship in a new interview. 33-year-old Chmerkovskiy says: “She’s a great girl that I never thought anything romantic like this could have happened.” Buzz has been circulating around the twosome for more than year after they were spotted acting intimate during her 21st birthday dinner. (Who’s hotter … him or her?)

• This is no joke: Sylvester Stallone says he can’t wait until “Rocky, The Musical” hits the Broadway stage. The production debuted in Hamburg, Germany last year and, after favorable reviews, is now set to move to NYC’s Winter Garden Theatre for previews beginning in February. Sly claims he’s been working on the project for 14 years. He created and starred in the classic 1976 boxing movie that evolved into a 6-film franchise. “Rocky, The Musical” is scheduled to officially open in March. (Featuring the show stopper: “Theme from Cuff & Link”.)

• Canadian Nobel Prize-winning author Alice Munro will be unable to attend the Stockholm awards ceremony in December because of ill health, the head of the Swedish Academy has announced. The 82-year-old short-story writer revealed in 2009 that she had undergone coronary bypass surgery as well as cancer treatment. She announced this year she’d decided to retire from writing. “Her health is simply not good enough,” Academy head Peter Englund says in a blog post, without giving details. (The process of winning the Literature Nobel takes years of lobbying by an author’s supporters. This time … perhaps too many.)

• “Ironside” and “Welcome To the Family” are no more as NBC-TV has axed both. The cancellation isn’t much of a shock as each is hovering around 2.5 million viewers. “Welcome To the Family” has been yanked immediately, while revamped ‘70s cop drama “Ironside” will air its final episode October 30th. The network will fill the timeslot with episodes of “Dateline” and specials until the end of the year, and ease into 2014 with a “Chicago Fire” spinoff, “Chicago PD”. (Out with the old, in with the … er … old.)

• And the new face of Chanel No 5 is … Marilyn Monroe. The company has announced that images of the iconic actress will be used in TV & print ad campaigns, including one in which she dabs on Chanel before the 1955 premiere of “Cat On a Hot Tin Roof”. In 1952, when asked by “Life” magazine what she wore to bed, she famously responded, “nothing but Chanel No 5”. That declaration went down in Hollywood history as an example of Monroe’s witty charm, and contributed to the mystique surrounding the perfume. The new ads begin appearing November 17th. (Bet they’re better than Brad Pitt’s.)

WET WI-FI:
University of Buffalo researchers have tested …. underwater wif-fi. The team dropped two 40-lb (18-kg) sensors into Lake Erie in an attempt to make a ‘deep-sea internet’ connection using sound waves instead of radio waves. The aim is to create an agreed standard for underwater communications, and to make underwater interaction and data-sharing easier. What’s the point? It’s hoped one use of the new technology could be in helping detect tsunamis, offering more reliable warning systems for anyone with a smartphone. (Also handy if you want to quickly post a pic on Instagram of the Great White Shark chewing on your scuba fin.)

AY CARUMBA!
Salsa has now beaten out ketchup as the USA’s #1 condiment. As Hispanics now make up more than a quarter of America’s population, Hispanic foods & beverages have become an $8 billion-plus business. By 2017, it’s estimated that number may reach $11 billion. These days, tortillas outsell burger and hot dog buns; sales of tortilla chips trump potato chips; and tacos and burritos have become so ubiquitously ‘American’, most people don’t even consider them ethnic. WHO DIED IN HERE?
Been hearing strange noises in the night? Think your house just may be haunted? Well, now you can get answers, thanks to a new website. As the name suggests, DiedInHouse.com tells you who, if anyone, has died in the place you call home. For $11.99, a search on the website scours millions of records to see if anyone spent their last days at your address. Realtors aren’t big fans of the idea, as a death on-site can reduce a property’s value by 15%-to-25%. So far, the search is only available for US properties. (But, of corpse, it’s likely to expand.)
