BS SUBSCRIBER NOTE:
There will be no “BS” service for Monday, October 9, to observe Canadian Thanksgiving Day. The BS will return on Tuesday Oct. 10.

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jared Leto has been cast to play Hugh Hefner.  Brett Ratner (Rush Hour) will direct the biopic about the Playboy founder, who died last week at 91.  The film is now in early development.  According to the director, “There’s enough footage on Hef out there that Jared will be able to get as much information as he wants.”
(You have to wonder if Leto will go ‘method’ to play Hef, like he did to play The Joker.)
-Cosmopolitan
★ Kate Winslet has joined the cast of the ‘Avatar’ sequel due out in 2020. This marks the first time Winslet will reunite with her ‘Titanic’ director James Cameron since they filmed that blockbuster in 1997. Cameron says, “Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career.”
-DailyMail
★ Kirstie Alley has Tweeted some comments about the Las Vegas tragedy that managed to offend people everywhere.  According to her, the reason that mass killings were uncommon before the 1980s is the “USA’s mass usage of psychiatric drugs” since.  Alley wrote that “A percent do have side effects of VIOLENCE and SUICIDE”.  Twitter users responded furiously.   -CelebrityInsider
★ Vanessa Lachey’s partner Maks Chmerkovskiy skipped their DWTS performance due to ‘big chemistry issue’.  According to an insider, “Their personalities are very similar so they disagree about everything. They’re playing nice for the cameras but both are miserable paired with each other”.  Fans were shocked when Maks was not on the Monday show because of what was called a ‘personal issue’.
-DailyMail
★ Kim Cattrall thinks Sarah Jessica Parker ”could have been nicer” following the news of  ‘Sex In The City 3’s cancellation. Cattrall – who starred as Samantha Jones in the hit TV show and two subsequent movies – was accused of making ”diva demands” which brought production of a third film to a halt. Parker said she was ”disappointed” that the movie would not be going ahead as planned, but Cattrall believes she should have stuck up for her, and helped put the diva stories to rest.
(Well, if she wasn’t a diva before all of this…)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Jennifer Lopez – canceled three concerts in the wake of the Las Vegas shootings.  In a statement, she wrote that she is “heartbroken that such a senseless tragedy occurred.” Postponed are her Vegas shows scheduled for last night, Friday and Saturday.
• Justin Bieber –  is reportedly having to stay in a hotel because landlords in Beverly Hills refuse to rent him a mansion. Bieber has made the city his permanent base, but homeowners in the area have turned down rent offers of up to US$100,000 from Bieber. (Might be that ‘throwing eggs’ thing from a few years back?)
• Taylor Swift – A Los Angeles police officer says she sent flowers to the LAPD’s Foothill Community Police Station, showing support for the off-duty female police officer wounded in the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting.
• Demi Lovato – thinks fame is ”weird”.  She says she still can’t really get her head around her celebrity status, but thinks she has learned to ”manipulate” her stardom to talk about issues and causes that are important to her.
• Bob Seger –  has been forced to postpone all 19 dates of his ‘2017 Runaway Train’ tour due to an “urgent medical issue concerning his vertebrae.”  Seger wrote on his website that he hopes to be back out on the road “very soon”.  (The biggest expense for classic rockers going on tour is soon going to be insurance!)
• Hall & Oates — are releasing a new greatest hits album, ‘Timeless Classics’, on October 20  It will include 18 songs, including ‘Maneater’, ‘Private Eyes’, ‘Kiss On My List’, and ‘Rich Girl’.
• Linkin Park – Fans have stepped up and created a new lyric video for the song ‘One More Night’.  The lyric video was created by fan Nicola Drilling and features photos, video, stop motion animation and creative art pieces all pulled together to showcase the lyrics from the poignant song, which has taken on even more meaning since the death of Chester Bennington.
• Rosanne Cash – The New York Times published an op-ed written by her, calling for country musicians to stand up to the NRA in the wake of the mass shooting in Las Vegas.  In it, she says the NRA “funds domestic terrorism”.
• Kelsea Ballerini – is urging her fans to try and make the world happier in simple ways. In an Instagram post, she shares how she feels “there is still beauty around if you look for it, and that we have the ability to make people happy. To make people feel loved. And heard. And accepted.”

IS THIS STILL GOOD?
Washing your clothes more than you need to can shorten their lifespan, but washing too rarely can be unhygienic and cause bacteria growth. Here’s a general guide:
➢ Bras: After three to four wears
➢ Underwear: After every wear (No pun intended…)
➢ Socks and stockings: After every wear (I would HOPE so!)
➢ Sportswear and swimwear: After every wear (NOTE: hockey underclothes excluded)
➢ Coats: Once every two months of wear (you can wash those?)
➢ Jeans: Five to six wears. Although there are some that advocate washing as little as possible (For me, a lot has to do with ketchup and motor-oil)
➢ Tops: One to two wears (depends on the effectiveness of your deodorant)
➢ Dresses: One to two wears (You won’t want to be caught dead in the same dress for at least 6 months, so you might as well wash it…)
➢ Pants, skirts, and shorts: Three to four wears (when on vacation, this usually translates into three to four DAYS)
➢ Jackets and blazers: Five to six wears. (Depends on if you hung them up, or threw them across the bedroom floor…)
➢ PJs: Three to four wears (if applicable)
(Here is how I decide when to wash things: When I get to the point that if I don’t do it
today, I’ll have to buy new clothes tomorrow….then I do laundry!)

THE FAMILY THAT STEPS TOGETHER:
Scientists say that making healthy lifestyle choices into a game could be an effective way to stick to them.  A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, families were asked to track their daily step counts for about 6 months, using a smartphone app or a wearable device.  Researchers found that when the program was turned into a game or a competition, participants had a greater increase in their daily step count, and they achieved their daily step count goals more often.  They also had a higher general step count weeks after the game ended.
(You call that a game?  I call that sneaky!)
(Oh yeah?  Make it a burger-eating competition and see who is making healthy choices then!)
(The part of this that I’d win is in the ‘hacking my step-counter’ competition!)

BS BUZZWORDS:
New terms leaking into the lingo…
• ‘Fatberg’ – A massive, hardened agglomeration of fatty substances, particularly one found in a sewer and caused by homeowners and businesses pouring fats down drains. (My basement flooded because of the fatberg over by the fish n’ chips place!)
• ‘Situationship’ – A relationship between two people that is more than a friendship, but less than a romance.  (Try to put that on your Facebook relationship status!)
• ‘Cryomation’ – To reduce a dead body to a powder by freeze-drying it with liquid nitrogen and then crushing the remains. (I would HOPE that he’s dead!)
• ‘Beach-spreading’ – Taking up more than one’s fair share of space on a crowded beach.  (But ‘fair share’ all depends on who got there first!)
-Wordspy

TOO STUPID FOR US TO MAKE UP:
→ Near Baltimore, MD, four family members were hurt when their washing machine exploded.  Why did it explode?  They were using it as a ‘fire-pit’.  Police were called Sunday night and found that a 65 year-old man, his son and the son’s wife and 2 year-old daughter had been sitting around a bonfire inside the drum of a washing machine when it blew up.  Accelerant had been used to light the fire and it exploded.
(I guess laundry day has been cancelled this week?)
-AP
→ A 45-year-old German actress has been injecting herself with a 3.5 million-year-old bacteria from the Siberian permafrost, to stop the effects of aging.  The woman, who goes by the name Manoush, describes herself as a “human lab rat” for being the first person in the world to inject herself with ‘Bacillus F’, an ancient bacteria whose cells apparently show no signs of aging. She has been doing it for the past three months and claims it is already making her look and feel younger than her age.
(I saw the photo.  If she thinks she looks younger, I think that stuff is wrecking her eyes!)
