Get Your BS Here, Hot ‘N Fresh!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
• TV personality Carson Daly is engaged to girlfriend Siri Pinter, according to a new report. Pinter was recently spotted wearing a diamond sparkler on her ring finger while out with Daly in LA and a source confirms “The Voice” host recently popped the question. Daly & Pinter have been together for 6 years and have 2 children, aged 1 and 3. He was previously known as one of Hollywood’s most notorious serial daters, linked to the likes of Ashlee Simpson, Christina Aguilera, Jaime Pressly, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Tara Reid.

• Writer/director Richard Curtis has abandoned plans to shoot a 3rd “Bridget Jones’ Diary” movie because Helen Fielding, the author behind the books that inspired the films, has killed off the literary heroine’s love interest in her latest book, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy”. Curtis, who adapted “Bridget Jones’ Diary” and its sequel “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason”, admits he’s upset with Fielding for not telling him about the demise of ‘Mark Darcy’, as portrayed in the films by Colin Firth. Quote: “I feel very tricked and cheated.”

• Now he’s breaking Broadway! “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston is set to swap his meth empire for a president’s desk, playing late leader Lyndon B Johnson in “All the Way”, what’s being described as an exciting new American play. The plot begins with the 1963 assassination of John F Kennedy that saw Johnson rushed into the Oval Office. It deals with the tumultuous and exciting year that followed. There’s no date or Broadway announced yet, but a Winter kick-off is all but confirmed.

• The UK’s biggest annual music event, Glastonbury Festival, has sold out in record time with 120,000 tickets costing £210 (about $335) each snapped up in just 1-and-a-half hours. That’s truly amazing considering this is for the 2014 event to be staged next June 25-29 and the headliners haven’t even been announced. The tease is that it will be 3 acts who haven’t played Glastonbury before. Speculation ranges from Daft Punk to David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters, Madonna, and Rihanna. Over 1 million fans pre-registered for the ticket sale.

• And seems hard to believe after all the twerking, the foam finger, the nude music video, and the breast-tacular “Rolling Stone” cover, but Miley Cyrus claims in a new interview that she doesn’t want to be famous. Quote: “I want to be a name that everyone knows and respects. And I think being famous, you lose a little bit of that respect.” Disingenuous? Naive? Sincere but guided by handlers whose plans for pop cultural domination have trumped her wishes? Today’s release (and reaction) to her new album “Bangerz” may begin to answer some of those questions.

TOWARD SUSTAINABLE CLOTHING:
More people now care where their food comes from but not many have given the same thought to their clothes. Shoppers snap up fast fashion pieces from retail chains, often unaware of the damage they’re causing the environment, and the consequence the cheap-but-chic industry has on workers in countries where long, grueling hours and low wages aren’t governed. A new website hopes to change that. ‘Zady’ wants to be “the Whole Foods for fashion”. In the same way that organic grocers sell local, healthy foods the new startup hopes to market sustainable but stylish clothing from locally-sourced materials. (Will you pay more for clothes that meet these criteria?)

WHAT’S REALLY IN YOUR CHICKEN NUGGETS?
The short answer: Less chicken meat than you’d think. Researchers from the University of Mississippi examined chicken nuggets from 2 national fast food-chains and found breast and thigh meat accounted for 50% or less of each nugget. The rest wasn’t pretty. After the 3 researchers selected 1 nugget from each box, preserved, dissected and strained them, then looked at them under a microscope, it was found they were about half muscle, with the rest a mix of fat, blood vessels, and nerves. Close inspection also revealed cells that line the skin and internal organs. (File this under: ‘Things You Wish You Hadn’t Learned’.)
