BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Rumors about King Charles’ coronation ceremony date seem to have been premature. Buckingham Palace has responded to claims that the date of Charles’ coronation ceremony has been confirmed for June, 3, calling them “purely speculation.” Reports cited “anonymous” government sources as saying the ceremony during which Charles will be officially crowned King will be held at Westminster Abbey on June 3 next year, almost 70 years to the day after his mother Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, which took place June 2, 1953. However, a Palace spokesperson says that the date has not yet been decided upon. King Charles’ coronation is expected to take place in the spring or summer of 2023. The ceremony has been planned for decades and it is believed to be taking place less than a year of the monarch’s ascension to the throne. The 73-year-old monarch ascended to the throne immediately after Queen Elizabeth’s death on September 8.

★ Leonardo DiCaprio gets first dibs on every role in Hollywood, according to Christian Bale. In a rare interview with GQ, The “Amsterdam” star was informed that DiCaprio was cast ahead of Bale as “American Psycho” and “at least 5 roles” in the ’90s, including “Titanic”. Bale responded by saying: “It’s not just me. Any role that anybody gets, it’s only because he’s passed on it beforehand…It doesn’t matter how friendly you are with the directors. All those people that I’ve worked with multiple times, they all offered every one of those roles to him first. Literally, he gets to choose everything he does. And good for him, he’s phenomenal.” But Bale’s said he’s not jealous, saying: “I can’t do what he does. I wouldn’t want the exposure that he has either.”

★ After wife Gisele Bündchen retained a divorce lawyer, Tom Brady has enlisted one for himself, a source has confirmed. Tuesday, “People” reported that Bündchen hired a divorce attorney amid their marriage troubles, and Brady, her husband of 13 years, was “trying to figure out what to do.” The couple, who share two children — 12-year-old Benjamin and 9-year-old Vivian, along with Brady’s son John from a previous relationship — have been dealing with “a lot of tension” in the marriage, in part because of Brady’s decision to return to the NFL after a brief retirement. The same day it was first reported that lawyers had been brought into the picture, Bündchen was spotted without her wedding ring.

CORONAUPDATE:
As the virus behind COVID-19 mutates, so, too, do the symptoms. And now, experts are warning that the dominant strain expected to cause a case surge this winter is no different. While the most-common symptoms of previous strains have included fever, loss of taste and smell, and a runny nose, now, the most-reported symptom is a sore throat. According to Professor Tim Spector, co-founder of the COVID ZOE app, with the next wave beginning, it appears to be affecting older people earlier than the last wave. And many people are still using government guidelines about symptoms for previous variants: “At the moment, COVID starts in two-thirds of people with a sore throat. Fever and loss of smell are really rare…so many older people may not think they’ve got COVID.” Those people may think they simply have a cold, and never be tested. He’s calling on governments to update guidelines to reflect the trends seen in recent months, in hopes of curbing the coming case spike.
(Oh, no! I woke up this morning with a sore throat. No, wait…that’s just from snoring!)
(I used to say my humor is just like COVID, because it’s tasteless. At least I can still say that if you get either, you’re pretty sick!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A 9-year-old Virginia boy earned an unusual Guinness World Record when he became the youngest person to have a wisdom tooth extracted. Guinness says Ryan Scarpelli’s orthodontist noticed last year that the boy had a wisdom tooth and a molar growing on top of each other. Scarpelli’s wisdom tooth was removed when he was 9 years and 327 days old. The previous record holder was only a few days older when his tooth was taken out in 2002. (When they say “With age comes wisdom” – I didn’t think they meant age 9!)
➢ A British artist known as Mr. Doodle caused a viral sensation when he unveiled the result of a project to cover every inch of his 12-room mansion in…doodles. Sam Cox, unveiled “The Doodle House” in a time-lapse YouTube video showing the process of his transforming his Kent, mansion into an art project over the course of 2 years. It is now covered inside and out in doodles, including surfaces such as the kitchen appliances and bed sheets. Cox used about 240 gallons of white paint on the inside of his house and 401 cans of black spray paint for the outside to create a surface for his drawings, which were made with 2,296 pens. He plans to live full-time at the Doodle House with his wife. Alena, aka Mrs. Doodle, and their dog. (What’s wrong with this dood…le?) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mwt5shm3

A startup that sells water in beer cans — that’s literally it — is now approaching a $1 billion valuation, after just 3 years. Liquid Death raised a fresh funding round Monday, making it worth $700 million. Since its launch in 2019, the brand has had explosive growth thanks to its loyal fans, subversive marketing and unique packaging. Its latest investor thinks it might be the “fastest growing non-alcoholic beverage of all time.” Liquid Death said it is on track to bring in $130 million this year — nearly triple last year’s revenue. BS CHRONOMETER 10.07.22
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Bathtub Day”, encouraging a luxurious long, hot bath to develop inner peace. Almost everyone nowadays takes showers, so here’s a chance to recall some of the luxury of days gone by. (And count how many times the kids come to the door…)
• “National Frappé Day”, honoring a versatile drink with numerous variables, so there are flavors to suit everyone. Frappes typically are blended drinks made with either coffee or espresso and topped with whipped cream. (So, today, ‘Don’t worry, be frappée’!)
• “Forgiveness & Happiness Day”, observe it by working to repair damaged relationships, by asking for forgiveness, by forgiving others, and by forgiving yourself.
• “National Inner Beauty Day”, to spread awareness and lend support to those subject to human trafficking. The day is observed to understand that any type of forced labor and sexual exploitation, and slavery — is punishable and morally wrong.
• “You Matter to Me Day”, created in 2010 by Linda Jew, who had a friend and his son pass away, and realized that she never told them, “You matter to me”. She began telling people she knew that they mattered, and decided to start a day centered around the phrase
SATURDAY-
• “Pierogi Day” (also spelled pyrogy, perogi, pirogi), honoring the traditional Eastern European dish consisting of boiled dumplings of unleavened dough stuffed with various ingredients. They’re best served while wearing a babushka. (And covered in sour cream…)
• “Touch Tag Day”, a salute to the schoolyard game that almost every kid has played in some version. Also known as ‘Touch’, ‘Tag’, ‘It’, ‘Chasey’, and ‘Catching’, it has been played by children for thousands of years, as far back as Ancient Egypt. (Best thing about it . . . the equipment is really cheap!)
• “Fluffernutter Day”, a sandwich consisting of peanut butter and marshmallow fluff, or creme, that is usually served on white bread. Sometimes foods such as bacon or bananas are added to the fluffernutter as well
• “World Octopus Day”, an annual celebration of the odd animal with 8 semi-autonomous arms, thousands of smart suckers, blue blood, 3 beating hearts, and eerily advanced intelligence.
(BS FUN FACT: The plural for octopus is ‘octopuses’. While Merriam-Webster points out that people also refer to ‘octopi’ and ‘octopodes’ in modern usage, it’s still considered incorrect.)
SUNDAY-
• “Fire Prevention Day”, a highlight of the annual “Fire Prevention Week”. Why today? It marks the anniversary of the ‘Great Chicago Fire of 1871’, the disaster that began a movement toward fire prevention as an adjunct to firefighting.
• “Beer and Pizza Day”, paying homage to one of the most iconic food and drink combinations on Earth (without which, would we even HAVE bowling?).
• “National Sneakers Day”, also known as athletic shoes, tennis shoes, gym shoes, sport shoes, runners, or trainers, sneakers are the most democratic form of footwear, owned by almost everybody. There is also a large culture dedicated to the appreciation and collection of them.
• “Leif Erikson Day” in Norway and Iceland, commemorating the Viking explorer’s discovery of North America (‘Vinland’, thought to be northern Newfoundland) circa 1000 AD . . . almost 500 years before Christopher Columbus.
• “Pastor Appreciation Day”, part of Clergy Appreciation Month. Today, you might thank your pastor (and maybe give your pastor a ‘thank-you basket’), or offer to volunteer at the organization where they minister.
• “UN World Post Day”, honoring the founding of the Universal Postal Union in 1874. Today the UPU, with 192 member countries, oversees co-ordination of the global postal service.

• “Columbus Day” in America, commemorating Christopher Columbus’ October 12th, 1492 ‘discovery of the New World’ … which had already been discovered by Vikings, Siberians, Aboriginals, Aztecs, and many others centuries before.
• “World Homeless Day”, to draw attention to the needs of the homeless and provide opportunities for communities to get involved in responding.
• “Angel Food Cake Day”, honoring the dessert every starving dieter touts as being ‘fat-free’ … just before inhaling it in its entirety. (With a ton of high-fat whip cream!)
• “World Mental Health Day”, for mental health education and awareness. It was first celebrated in 1992 as an initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, which operates in more than 90 countries.
• “Hug a Drummer Day”, to celebrate percussionists who keep the rhythm, but are usually the least celebrated musicians in a band. Because we never miss a chance to tell them, here are our favorite drummer jokes:
➢ How can you tell when a drummer is at the door? [The knocking speeds up. Then he doesn’t know when to come in.]
➢ What do you call a drummer who breaks up with his girlfriend? [Homeless.]
➢ How can you tell when the stage riser is level? [The drool comes out of both sides of the drummer’s mouth.]
➢ What’s the last thing a drummer says in a band? [“Hey guys, why don’t we try one of my songs?”]
➢ What’s the difference between a podiatrist and a drummer? [A podiatrist bucks up your feet…]
➢ And the all-time classic: What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians? [A drummer.]
