BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ T.J. Miller and Ryan Reynolds’ “Deadpool” drama is dead in the water. Miller has revealed that his former co-star reached out to him via email after Miller alleged that Reynolds was “horrifically mean” to him on set. During a Wednesday radio interview, Miller said it “was a misunderstanding,” and called Reynolds “cool” and a “good dude”, adding: “It was very cool for him to say, ‘Hey, you know, I just heard … that you were upset about this’…and then we sort of hashed it out quickly.” Miller noted that he “feels bad” over how “misconstrued” his on-set story became after his “Adam Corolla Show” podcast interview went viral.

★ Emily Ratajkowski is enjoying her freedom. The “My Body” author—who filed for divorce from Sebastian Bear-McClard last month—confirmed her relationship status, and dismissed a question about her rumored romance with Brad Pitt. In a new interview, she said: “One of the things I write about in the…book is about control and…one of the best ways to actually be happy and have some semblance of control is letting go.” She said that she’s “newly single” for the first time, and is enjoying “not being super worried about how I’m being perceived.” It was reported last month that she and Pitt have been casually hanging out.

★ John Stamos says he couldn’t imagine filming a “Full House” reboot without Bob Saget. Saget, who played ‘Danny Tanner’ on the sitcom – passed away in January at 65, and Stamos admits he’d be reluctant to shoot a reboot after the death of his former co-star. Quote: “It’s just not the same without him. There’s something missing, there’s a piece missing.” He mentioned that there have been several tributes to Saget, including one he participated in on Netflix, and “We’ll continue to do tributes to him, but I don’t know about a Full House one, though.”

★ Cher’s massive Malibu mansion, a place she’s called home for decades, is hitting the market — at a price fitting for an icon. She has listed the stunning home for a whopping $85million, an incredible bump from the $2.95 million she bought the place for in 1989. The Italy-inspired home took 5 years to build, and features just about all the amenities you can imagine. It sits on 1.7 acres, and opens with 40 Palm trees complete with a courtyard and a fountain. The main residence has 7 bedrooms, a primary suite with a meditation room and 2 closets, an indoor/outdoor, gym and a home theater. According to legend (and it’s Cher, so believe it), there’s also a climate-controlled wig room with up to 100 hairpieces. The whole thing overlooks the Pacific Ocean.

• Duran Duran – will release a new docu-concert film titled “A Hollywood High” in theaters on Nov. 3. IDEAL MEAL:
Got dinner plans? Hopefully yours involve being at home with those closest to you. The secret to easing stress be as simple as having dinner as a family, according to researchers with the American Heart Association. They report that 91% of parents notice their families are less stressed when they share meals together. In a poll of 1,000 adults, 84% said they wish they could share a meal with loved ones more often. But adults eat alone roughly half of the time. Two-thirds (65%) say they’re at least somewhat stressed and 27% are very stressed. The AHA points out: “Sharing meals with others is a great way to reduce stress, boost self-esteem and improve social connection, particularly for kids.” And remember, chronic stress can also increase your risk of heart disease and stroke, so it’s important to reduce and manage stress as much as possible. The survey also found that many people believe sharing a meal has additional health benefits, including providing a reminder of the importance of connecting with others. More than half (54%) say sharing a meal reminds them to slow down and take a break. And nearly 6 in 10 feel they make healthier food choices when they eat with others.
(That’s because when I eat with MY family, all the unhealthy stuff is gone before I’ve grabbed a fork!)
(I hate eating alone. But when I have family over, I’m also reminded that I hate eating with others!)

THE RUDEST THINGS YOU CAN DO IN SOMEONE ELSE’S HOUSE:
According to etiquette experts…
☞ Touching and moving things: When someone says ‘Make yourself at home,’ they don’t mean it literally. Keep your feet off the furniture, and unless it’s a close friend, don’t open the fridge without being asked. (And don’t even get me STARTED on the medicine cabinet…)
☞ Expecting a tour: Many people are happy to show you around, but not everyone. And if your host doesn’t offer a tour, don’t take it upon yourself to wander around, either.
☞ Overstaying your welcome: Know when it’s time to leave. The top complaint etiquette experts hear is about guests who simply won’t leave when they should. (It’s a strong indicator if they put their jammies on…)
☞ Hiding a mess: Mistakes happen. You might accidentally spill red wine on the carpet or knock over a lamp. Tell your host immediately – even if it’s something small like a finished roll of toilet paper. (…which I was using to clean up the wine spill…on the pool table!)
☞ Bringing an uninvited ‘plus-one’: Even if it’s a casual gathering, be sure to ask ahead of time.
☞ Others: Waiting to share dietary restrictions, feeding the dog, disrespecting shoe rules, and showing up empty handed.
(Actually, I can think of a few ruder things…!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A California ophthalmologist recently shocked followers by posting a video of herself extracting 23 forgotten contact lenses from a patient’s eye. Katerina Kurteeva, an eye doctor in Newport Beach CA, posted an Instagram video of herself carefully removing the contact lenses from a woman’s eye. The patient had forgotten the lenses in her eye for months, possibly years. The video went viral, leaving millions scratching their heads about someone could simply forget that many contact lenses in their eye. (Or more accurately: Scratching their eyes!)
➢ A woman was somehow scammed into paying $30,000 to help a “Russian astronaut” she had met online…return to Earth from the International Space Station. Japanese news outlets are reporting that the citizen fell in love with a man claiming to be a Russian astronaut and sent him 4.4 million yen to help him arrange a ride back to Earth. She sent her online lover the money in 5 installments, but ended up alerting the police after he kept asking for more. (Kinda makes the “Nigerian prince” scam sound almost believable, doesn’t it?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Some Belgian scientists say they have developed a way to make beer taste even better. They’ve successfully engineered a gene responsible for the strong flavor of beer and other alcoholic beverages. It’s a long, technical explanation, but we’ll just trust them when they say it has to do with modifying a yeast strain to give beers more of that fruity, banana-like flavor that it is known for. They admit their work was supported by a brewing company, which hopes to make use of the technology in a patent, meaning other brands of brew might miss out. (We’re not sure which company it is, but yesterday I did notice an ad for new “Bud Light Banana”!!)

BS CHRONOMETER 10.14.22
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Bald & Free Day”, honoring those with a beautiful, shiny top. You don’t have to be bald to celebrate — people who are married to, or related to a bald-headed person are also encouraged to celebrate alongside the honoree. (The people who can’t part their hair because they’ve already parted WITH it!)
• “World Egg Day”, observed annually on the 2nd Friday of October to salute the many uses of chicken embryos. Events are held across the world celebrating the egg.
• “Dessert Day”, honoring the tasty treat that tops off dinner. The word originates from the French word “desservir”, meaning “to clear the table.” Nowadays, just 12% of families regularly consume dessert, as opposed to 25% in the 1980s. (Sometimes I eat dessert…after dessert!)
• “lowercase day”, a day to write without capital letters. your middle school grammar teacher might be horrified, but the “shift” button on your keyboard will thank you for the day off.
• “World Standards Day”, honoring the experts who develop standards for measurement, electronics, and telecommunications worldwide. (If they can’t even agree on a universal electrical plug, it doesn’t seem to be working…)
• “Chocolate Covered Insects Day”, for this exotic snack, insects are roasted to perfection, then coated in chocolate. Crickets and ants are the most popular variety, and most people think they taste like chocolate-covered popcorn.
• “FRUMP Day”, Probably not what you think it is. FRUMP Day is a day to be a Frugal, Responsible, Unpretentious, and Mature Person. It is also a day to honor those who exemplify these characteristics. (Sounds boring…)
SATURDAY-
• “Global Handwashing Day”, the 15th annual, part of a campaign to motivate people to wash their hands with soap, a key factor in disease prevention. This year’s theme: “Unite for Universal Hand Hygiene” (Shame that we need a reminder for this…) LINK: https://globalhandwashing.org/global-handwashing-day/
• “Grouch Day”, a day to be grumpy, ungrateful, and cantankerous, and a day to allow grouches everywhere time to spout off. (***Oscar the Grouch sounds here***: https://tinyurl.com/yvy5r7rn )
• “International Day of Rural Women”, a UN observance since 2008. (Celebrate it – even if you can’t SAY it!)
• “Mushroom Day”, saluting the fungus among us. (And you thought you were the only thing kept in the dark and fed crap…)
• “White Cane Safety Day”, set aside since 1964 to celebrate the achievements of the visually impaired and their important tool of independence, the white cane.
• I Love Lucy Day”, celebrating the beloved “I Love Lucy” TV show. Stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz broke new ground with their show, which first aired on this day in 1951.
• “Cheese Curd Day”, the moist pieces of curdled milk either eaten alone as a snack, or used for other things. They are chiefly found in Quebec, Canada, in the dish ‘poutine’ (made of French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy), and in the northeastern and midwestern US. Curds are sometimes referred to as “squeaky cheese” (and apparently pair well with ‘whey’…)
• “Pug Day”, Pugs date to 400 BCE or earlier. They became part of royal families when Chinese emperors began keeping them as lap dogs. Pugs were often treated to luxury, and sometimes even given their own palaces and guards.
SUNDAY-
• “Dictionary Day”, celebrating the birth of Noah Webster, one of the most famous of lexicographers, who first published “Webster’s Dictionary” in 1828. (I just memorized 6 pages of the dictionary…I learned ‘next’ to ‘nothing’!)
• “Feral Cat Day”, also “Global Cat Day”, initiated in 2001 by the advocacy group ‘Alley Cat Allies’ to promote humane care for domestic cats who are scrabbling to stay alive in the wild.
• “World Food Day”, as declared annually by the UN. (Don’t mind if I do!)
• “Steve Jobs Day”, celebrating the renowned businessman and visionary. He dramatically changed numerous industries, and lead organizations such as Apple, Pixar and NeXT. Jobs died Oct. 5, 2011, and the 16th was established as Steve Jobs Day by the Governor of California.
• “Boss’s Day”, an observance since 1958, when employees are encouraged to honor the boss with a small gift or greeting card (aka ‘Brown Nosers Day’).
BS THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER SAY TO YOUR BOSS:
– “Maybe you’ll have the proposal on your desk by Monday, then again, maybe you won’t.”
– “I saw your wife at the last Christmas party. If you weren’t rich, there’s no way you’d be able to score a hottie like that.”
– “If I didn’t work for you, I’d kick your sorry butt up and down this office.”
– “Is that a rug?”
• “National Liqueur Day”, A liqueur is a strong alcoholic beverage that has been sweetened with herbs, fruits, nuts, cream, or spices. Traditionally served as after-dinner drinks or mixed with coffee, they can also be called cordials or schnapps. (You were looking for something to get for “Boss’s Day?)
