Here’s More Bull Roar!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Howie Mandel has assured fans he is OK following a report that he was hospitalized after fainting at his local Starbucks. The America’s Got Talent” judge tweeted: “I am home and doing better. I was dehydrated and had low blood sugar. I appreciate the great doctors and nurses that took such good care of me. Thank you to everyone who reached out but I am doing ok!” Hours earlier, he was with friends and his wife, Terry, at a Starbucks in Woodland Hills CA when he collapsed. Mandel’s health scare comes days after he underwent an endoscopy and a colonoscopy, and posted a funny video from his recovery room. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4kuac2fa

★ The world’s first Peppa Pig theme park will open on Feb 24. The standalone park, located on the same property as Legoland Florida Resort in Winterhaven, will offer Peppa-themed rides, play spaces and activities, all designed with preschoolers in mind. In addition to 6 themed rides, it will include play spaces — like a Muddy Puddles Splash Pad — as well as a cinema where kids can take a break and watch episodes of Peppa Pig on the big screen. A one-day ticket will cost US$34.99 at the gate. (I’d insert a Peppa Pig pop-culture reference here, but I have no idea!)

★ “Squid Game” is has had the most successful debut of any Netflix show in its history. The streamer said that the ultraviolent Korean drama has been sampled by 111 million members since its Sept. 17 premiere, over the span of 25 days. That means “Squid Game” has been viewed by more people in its initial month of release than the previous #1, “Bridgerton,” which was watched by 82 million households in its first 28 days of release.

★ The new Superman is up, up and out of the closet. But at least one person who has worn the blue and red isn’t happy that ‘Jon Kent’ — the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane is going in a “bold new direction” in his personal life. Dean Cane, who played Superman on “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” says: “They’re bandwagoning”. Quote: “They said it’s a bold new direction…Robin just came out as bi, who’s really shocked about that one? The new Captain America is gay. My daughter in Supergirl, where I played the father, was gay. So I don’t think it’s bold or brave or some crazy new direction. Jon Kent will embark on a relationship with a “hacktivist” reporter in issue #5 of Superman: Son of Kal-El.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele – has finally officially announced that her long-awaited “30” album will be released on Nov. 19. She wrote on Instagram: “I’ve learned a lot of blistering truths about myself…I’ve shed many layers but also wrapped myself in new ones…and I feel like I’ve finally found my feeling again…And so, I’m ready to finally put this album out.” The first single, ‘Easy On Me’ drops today.
• BTS — The custom suits they wore for their Grammy performance earlier this year are among the items going up for auction to benefit MusiCares, providing safety net assistance for those who need it in the music industry. A white and gold dress worn by Dolly Parton and a silver dress Katy Perry performed in will also be sold by Julien’s on Jan. 30, during the runup to the Grammys.
• Travis Scott — leads the list of most-searched celeb and musician costumes for Halloween, according to Design Bundles. The rest of the top-5, in order, are Ariana Grande, the late Aaliyah, Marshmello and Cardi B. But the survey found that many of Scott’s searches were for his Batman costume from last year, which was roundly mocked and led to him temporarily deleting his Instagram page.
• Elton John – was forced to decline taking part in a celebration of the life of Princess Diana because he is recovering from a hip injury. He was reportedly invited by Prince William to attend an Oct. 19 celebration of the recently unveiled statue of the late Princess, who died in 1997.
• The Beatles – The new trailer has been released for “The Beatles: Get Back”. Peter Jackson’s 3-part docuseries will air Nov. 25-27 on Disney+. Centering on the band’s January 1969 recording sessions, the film uses footage shot as the group recorded new songs and prepped for its first live performance in more than 2 years, a London rooftop appearance. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/s2c2z5nk
• Nirvana — Fender is re-issuing the Kurt Cobain Jag-Stang guitar in honor of the 30th anniversary of “Nevermind”. The late frontman created the custom model by mixing the Fender Jaguar and Mustang. Fender recreated the Jag-Stang from the sketches Cobain originally used to design it.
• Chris Stapleton – Carlos Santana says he was “very intrigued” to work with him on the song ‘Joy’, from Santana’s new “Blessings and Miracles” album (out today). Quote: “There’s so much fear in the world, and I said, ‘We need to create music as a healing force.’” The LP also features collaborations with Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Diane Warren, Steve Winwood and Rob Thomas. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3p9748br
• Brandi Carlile – Her “In These Silent Days” has entered at #1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Americana/Folk Albums charts. It’s her 3rd #1 rock album, following 2015’s “The Firewatcher’s Daughter” and 2018’s “By the Way, I Forgive You”.
• Maren Morris & Ryan Hurd — With their ‘Chasing After You’ now a Top 10 hit, they are just the third married couple to accomplish that feat since 2001. Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black’s ‘When I Said I Do’ topped the charts in 1999, and Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have placed 6 duets in the Top 10, most recently ‘Speak to a Girl’, in 2017.

SHOOTING THE BULL

TODAY’S MOVIE OPENINGS:
• “Halloween Kills” (R-Rated, Horror): The nightmare isn’t over as unstoppable killer Michael Myers escapes from Laurie Strode’s trap to continue his ritual bloodbath. Laurie fights through injuries to inspire the residents of Haddonfield IL to form a vigilante mob to end his reign of terror once and for all.
• “The Last Duel” (R-Rated, Drama):  Set in the midst of the Hundred Years War, a brave woman steps forward to accuse her attacker, an act of defiance that puts her life in jeopardy. The ensuing trial by combat becomes a grueling duel to the death. (Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer)
• “Needle in a Timestack” (R-Rated, Sci-Fi/Romance): Nick and Janine live in marital bliss until Janine’s ex-husband warps time to try to tear them apart. As Nick’s memories disappear, he must decide what he’s willing to sacrifice in order to hold onto – or let go of – everything he loves. (Leslie Odom Jr., Freida Pinto, Orlando Bloom)

JOB STATS:
These days, many people consider themselves fortunate if they even HAVE a job. But surprisingly, according to a new survey, 7-in-10 of us “love” ours. In the poll of 2,000 employed Americans, 41% go so far as calling it their “dream job.” It should be noted, though, that while 82% of males claim to “enjoy” what they do for a living, only 59% of female respondents said the same. Women were also less likely to call their current position a dream job…31% think of it that way, compared to more than half of men (52%). Conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Motivosity, the survey also found that the average worker cycles through 4 different positions before finding their “dream job.”
(I’m not buying it that 41% of people are working their dream job. Like, how often do you hear someone say, “T.G.I.M.”?)
(Yes, doing the morning show IS my dream job. I just wish I could do it later in the day…)
(My “dream job” would definitely involve a lot of dreaming…)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A man suspected of robbing a bank was arrested when he returned to try and rob the same branch the following day. The man entered a Chase bank in Fountain Valley CA on Monday afternoon, gave a teller a note demanding money, and fled with “a large amount of cash”, according to the Fountain Valley Police Department. Late Tuesday morning, police received a call about another robbery at the same bank. Responding officers arrested the 33-year-old suspect in connection with both incidents. The man also has prior convictions for robbery. (And those are just the ones when he was caught!)
➢ Seeking to please his wife who wished for a more diversified view from their home, a Bosnian man has built a rotating house, allowing her to watch a rising sun in one moment and passers-by in the next. Situated on a plain near the town of Srbac, the house spins around a 22-foot axis designed by 72-year-old Vojin Kusic, with the view of cornfields and farmland changing to forests and the river at a desired speed. According to the innovative husband: “The house can make a full circle in 24 hours when it’s at the slowest speed, while at the fastest spinning it can make a full circle in 22 seconds.” The project took 6 years to finish. (And to her credit, it wasn’t until year 5 that his wife announced that she’s “bored of this house” and wants to move!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Trees ‘sleep’ at night. That’s the fascinating conclusion from a team of scientists from Austria, Finland and Hungary. Using laser scanners pointed at 2 birch trees, they recorded physical changes indicative of nighttime slumber, with the tips of the birch branches drooping by as much as 4 inches overnight. They believe the dropping effect is caused by a decrease in the tree’s internal water pressure, or turgor pressure. With no photosynthesis at night to drive the conversion of sunlight into simple sugars, trees conserve energy by relaxing branches that would otherwise be angled toward the sun.
