Sweet Sheet!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Adam Devine is officially a married man. The “Pitch Perfect” star has tied the knot with his longtime love, actress Chloe Bridges. Last week, the “Pretty Little Liars” actress teased her upcoming nuptials by sharing photos of herself in the wedding dresses she considered for the ceremony. The pair, who met on the set of “The Final Girls” in 2014, got engaged in October 2019 after over 4 years of dating.

★ Monday’s episode of “NCIS” featured star Mark Harmon’s final moments on the show. He is exiting the hit CBS series after portraying ‘Gibbs’ for 18 seasons. During episode 4 of season 19, Harmon’s beloved character — who was nearly killed during the season 18 finale — said goodbye to his job, deciding to stay in Alaska indefinitely after solving a case. But was it really the end for Gibbs? CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl said last month: “Mark’s always going to be part of the show. In terms of his on-air appearances, we’re just going to have to see how it plays out going forward.”

★ Timothée Chalamet has offered up a first look of his upcoming film “Wonka.” He took to Instagram to share an image of himself in costume as the beloved chocolatier, with the caption: “The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last,” a line spoken by Gene Wilder in his portrayal of Wonka in the original 1971 adaptation “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.” While plot details are under wraps, prequel will reportedly explore how Willy Wonka became an illustrious candymaker. It is billed as a musical, with reps for Chalamet confirming that he’ll be singing and dancing in the film.

★ Hilary Swank has teamed up with LoveCrafts to create a matching sweater vest and dog jumper pattern to raise funds for her Hilaroo Foundation. She founded the charity to “bring youth, who have been given up on, and animals, who have been abandoned, together to help heal one another through Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Responsibility Training.” She was inspired to launch the non-profit organization after she rescued her beloved late pet pooch Karoo on the set of the 2005 film “Red Dust” in South Africa.

• Pink – is the most-played female artist of the 21st Century in the UK. Music licensing firm PPL put together streaming and broadcast data to unveil the top 20 female artists. Following Pink, in order, are: Madonna, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady GaGa, Adele, Beyoncé, Kylie Minogue, Little Mix, and Whitney Houston.
• Alanis Morissette — has postponed her UK and European tour. The shows had previously been rescheduled for fall after being pushed back a year due to the pandemic, but have been postponed again due to coronavirus restrictions. New dates for the gigs – celebrating the 25th anniversary of her 1995 album “Jagged Little Pill” are yet to be confirmed.
• Bonnie Tyler — has no plans to ever retire. In an interview, she said: “I like what I do. I don’t do it for the money. I love performing…Getting up on stage is in my DNA.” She also shared the secret to her raspy voice: “In my 20s I had to have nodules removed from my vocal cords. The result was my husky singing voice. People think I must have been a smoker, but I never was.”
• The Doors – Yesterday, guitarist Robby Krieger released his first-ever memoir “Set the Night on Fire: Living, Dying, and Playing Guitar with the Doors”. Quote: “I just wanted to…try to clear up things that were in other books or in The Doors movie and just give my slant on everything, which I hope is closer to the truth.”
• Journey – guitarist Neal Schon performed the U.S. national anthem prior to kickoff of Sunday’s NFL game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Chicago Bears at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas. He later shared video, writing: “WOW!!! What an absolutely Amazing Honor and Rush!” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2sm426c4
• George Strait and Willie Nelson — will share the stage in their home state of Texas for “Strait from Moody Center” on April 29. The one-night event to celebrate the grand opening of Moody Center, the University of Texas’ new 15,000-seat arena in Austin, will happen on Nelson’s 89th birthday.
• Reba McEntire — Just a few days after releasing her career-spanning new 3-disc box set “Revived Remixed Revisited”, she has announced the “Reba: Live in Concert” tour. Beginning Nov. 26 in Durant OK, the newly-announced string of dates will conclude March 19 in Rosemont IL. This is the revival of a tour that was previously postponed due to the pandemic.

SHOOTING THE BULL

CAT TALES:
This time of year always brings reports of supposed real-life horrors: razor blades concealed in apples, poisoned candy, and kidnappers and murderous clowns lying in wait for trick-or-treaters, to name a few. And of course, there are those horrifying stories of black cats being tortured and killed on Halloween by modern-day witches or weirdo cult members. That rumor is so persistent that some animal shelters don’t allow black cats to be adopted in October, and owners are advised to keep their pets indoors around Halloween. The hoax-debunking site Snopes conducted research at numerous animal shelters and found that, while many had heard the stories, none had first-hand knowledge of actual incidents. The Humane Society also chimed in, pointing out that many of the stories involve cats that disappeared around Halloween, but there is no way to determine whether they were taken by evildoers or simply wandered off. But that’s not to say black cats (and any other pets) don’t face dangers this time of year. The extra commotion around the neighborhood can be dangerous for cats who are allowed outdoors, and they may become frightened and disoriented, or even dart into traffic.
(We’ve got a black cat. Trust me, no one’s going to mess with him!)
(Still, you don’t want your cat to run into anyone with an A.L.F. costume, that’s for sure!)

BATTLE OF THE SEXES:
Scientists in Israel say they’ve figured out why women usually feel colder than men…and, in a nutshell, it’s so couples don’t spend so much time in close quarters that they drive each other nuts. A team from Tel Aviv University’s School of Zoology say their research shows that, much like some animals and birds, we have a “built-in evolutionary difference between the heat-sensing systems of the two sexes”. This preference for different temperatures can cause animals to separate for periods of time, cutting down the competition over resources. It also keeps potentially aggressive males from endangering offspring. For people, the scientists say the phenomenon is likely to encourage couples to “take some distance from each other so that each individual can enjoy some peace and quiet.”
(It’d have to be QUITE a distance for me not to still hear her complaining about how cold it is!)
(And that’s also why your Mother can’t live with us, dear…)
(On the other hand, Mother Nature has given us the perfect solution for when the guy is too hot in the middle of the night…like it or not – Her ice-cold feet in the middle of my back!)

STUFF YOU DON’T NEED:
➢ LEGO is set to release its largest set ever – a 9,090 piece, 53-inch (135cm) long, 1:200 scale model of the Titanic. The replica model divides into 3 sections to reveal the interior of the ill-fated vessel, including the grand staircase, which sprawls over 6 decks, as well as a dining saloon and the engine room. It also includes a recreation of the ship’s bridge, promenade deck and swimming pool. The set will be available for pre-order on November 1 and will cost $630. (Yeah, but does THIS Titanic float?)
➢ Oversized sunglasses have been a thing for a while, but Japanese company ZGHYBD has taken the fashion trend to the extreme with a pair of shades that cover the wearer’s entire face. To be honest, it’s hard to tell whether the eyewear is a visor or a pair of sunglasses; it covers the whole face like a face shield, with one giant polarized lens, but also features and a frame that slides behind the ears, like traditional eyeglasses. “Protective Faceshield Glasses” not only conceal the entire face, they offer protection against both wind and dust. And, of course, against UV. They’re available on Amazon Japan for $18. (Especially handy if you plan to go out dressed as a fly this Halloween!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/6fu6685p

TIPS FOR SAVING MONEY FROM ASKREDDIT USERS:
☞ Get your budget in order. There are free apps that link to your bank account and help categorize all purchases. Forces you to see where you waste your money.
☞ Stay out of convenience stores. Eat at home instead of going out or ordering delivery. Buy in bulk when feasible.
☞ Do not go shopping on an empty stomach. Personally, I don’t even drive anywhere until I’ve had a good meal.
☞ Drink at home more often instead of going out to the bar. You and your friends could have just as much fun playing games and being anti-social at home.
☞ You don’t actually want that thing you think you want.
☞ Brew your own coffee. 2-3 bucks a day is over $700-900 a year. Cut that down to roughly $150 with a nice coffee machine and a dark roast.
☞ Drink water. It costs less than soda, and it’s better for you. It also helps to stop hunger — Double win!
☞ Weed: It’s a waste of money when buying in small amounts. Buy big bags. (Never in my life did I think I’d see “Buy big bags of weed” in a financial advice article!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Some social media users have developed a new condition known as “Smartphone Pinky”. ⇒ From 1976 to 1985, there were no red M&M’s
⇒ Blue M&M’s were introduced in 1995
⇒ M&M’s were taken along on the first space shuttle voyage in 1982
⇒ There are 340 million M&M’s produced daily
⇒ The “M&M” was modeled after a candy Forrest Mars, Sr. encountered while in Spain in the 1930s. He observed soldiers eating chocolate pellets with a hard shell of tempered chocolate. This prevented the candies from melting, essential when included in soldiers’ rations.
