BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Kanye West’s account has been reinstated on Twitter — now called “X” — after an almost 8-month ban over offensive tweets. The rapper, known as Ye, was accused of violating the platform’s rules prohibiting incitement to violence. He has not posted anything new since returning to the site, at last check. Musk said at the time of the ban that Ye had “violated our rule against incitement to violence”, and that the account would be suspended. that came after the musician posted a series of offensive tweets – one of which appeared to show a symbol combining a swastika and the Star of David. ★ The queen of “30 Rock” could be making her return…to 30 Rock. New York Post quotes a source as saying that Tina Fey is being courted to take over as executive producer of “Saturday Night Live” when creator and current executive producer Lorne Michaels departs. 78-year-old Michaels has not formally announced any intention to leave the show he created in 1975, but he has, in the past, said that it’d be “a good time to leave” after the show’s 50th anniversary in 2025.

★ “Barbenheimer” continues to put up spectacular numbers. Barbie and Oppenheimer squashed the competition, including Disney newcomer “Haunted Mansion,” combining for $140 million in their second weekends. After opening to $162 million last weekend, “Barbie” is still drawing in hordes of pink-clad fans with an estimated $95 million. Oppenheimer took in an estimated $46 million, and “Haunted Mansion” was DOA with an estimated opening weekend of $24.5 million.

★ Kevin Costner’s estranged wife Christine Baumgartner is officially relocating. On Friday, moving trucks were seen leaving the $145 million Santa Barbara compound that she shared with Costner and their children during their 18-year marriage. People quotes a source as saying: “Christine is following the legal advice per the prenup and is vacating the family house”, and added that she “will stay at a smaller house on the property that’s been used as a staff quarter” as a temporary solution, so as not to disrupt the kids’ lives.

★ Brad Pitt is slamming the brakes on his upcoming Formula 1 racing film in support of the SAG-AFTRA strike. He’s been shooting the movie, “Apex”, in Europe, which is outside the jurisdiction of the Hollywood actors’ union. But in a show of solidarity, Pitt — who is starring as an F1 driver in the Apple TV+ production — has decided to pause the production until the strike is resolved. In related news, EGOT winner Viola Davis is backing away from “G20”, even after the film got the SAG-AFTRA interim agreement necessary to start production.
-ETCanada
★ Seann William Scott has revealed the paltry amount he was paid to appear in 1999 hit comedy “American Pie”. He told TV host Rick Elsen that he earned $8,000 for his work on the movie, which went on to make $235 million at the box office. Scott said that his pay “was a lot of money” for him at the time, and he used it to buy “a used Thunderbird for like $5000 or maybe $6000”. He’s not sure what he did with the rest, but he “ended up having to work at the LA Zoo as a churro guy, so maybe it was even less than $8000.” Scott, who played the role of lacrosse player ‘Steve Stifler’, continued working on the hit sex teen comedy franchise, earning a reported $5million for his role in 2012’s  “American Reunion”.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift – Her fans caused seismic activity equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake during her 2-night stint at Seattle’s Lumen Field. The “Swift Quake” has been compared to the 2011 “Beast Quake,” when Seahawks fans erupted after a Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch touchdown.
• Drake – bought the gold, ruby, and diamond crown ring that Tupac Shakur wore during his final public appearance. Drake paid just over $1 million for it at a Sotheby’s auction. Shakur designed the ring himself, and wore it to the MTV Video Music Awards in Sept. 1996. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/msadrj6w
• Travis Scott – Although he dropped his new album “Utopia” on Friday, his plans for an album-launching concert at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, were thwarted due to “production issues.” An “album film” titled “Circus Maximus” was screened in select AMC theaters, which begins with Scott being choked by an octopus, before transforming into a new version of himself.
• Sinéad O’Connor – Insider reports that she left her children instructions to call her accountant before 911, in the event of her death. In a 2021 interview, the late singer told People that she had stressed to her children how important it was to protect both her art and her money if she died. Quote: “When the artists are dead, they’re much more valuable than when they’re alive.” She has 3 surviving children.
• Mötley Crüe – Their ongoing stadium tour has seen them performing with Def Leppard, Poison, Joan Jett and Mammoth WVH, but Nikki Sixx has a band in mind that he’d love to add to the list. In a recent Twitter Q&A, he responded to a question asking what artist he’d like to tour with: “I think us and Guns (N Roses) would destroy the world.”
• Garth Brooks — Last summer, he said he’d like to open a police station alongside his Friends in Low Places bar. Now, he’s turning that dream into reality. He’s been seen with Nashville Police Chief John Drake touring the new bar and substation, which are both under construction. Brooks said his goal is to control traffic and safety. No word on a completion date. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4p3zwmru
• The Chicks — The sick Chick is still not healthy enough to take the stage, so the trio rescheduled 2 more shows, after postponing their Thursday show in Nashville “Due to illness”. Saturday night’s (July 29) show in Knoxville and Sunday night’s concert in Greensboro NC were also bumped and rescheduled. The next date on the “World Tour” is Wed. in Columbia MD. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yujat67f
• Tim McGraw – has announced his “Standing Room Only Tour”, set to begin March 14 in Jacksonville FL, and hit arenas in more than 30 US cities, plus Vancouver BC on March 27 . Carly Pearce will open all shows. The Standing Room Only album drops Aug. 25. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/czr35nzt

SHOOTING THE BULL

BARBIE CUES:
☞ Barbie blonds definitely have more fun – and the hair color is catching on. Celebrity stylist Aura Friedman has transformed her chair at New York’s Suite Caroline Salon into the ultimate “Barbie Dream Salon” for those who are thinking pink — and platinum. She has noticed that many clients have been inspired by the movie, with “Barbie blond” fast becoming summer’s hottest hair trend, despite earlier declarations that platinum hair was “cheugy,” as Gen Z says. Friedman says that “Barbie” star Margot Robbie is the “perfect blond,” which makes her the “prototype” for the sparkling shade. Beauty marketplace platform Fresha reports a 508% uptick for Barbie-inspired hair salon services and an 83% spike in requests. (Put another foil on the blondie?)
☞ Anyone can be a Barbie girl — but doctors are warning not to take it too literally. The “Barbie” movie has taken the world by storm, even contributing to a pink paint shortage. But Margot Robbie’s now-iconic arched foot scene has become infamous, with people obsessing over it since the trailer dropped. Next, of course, TikTok’ers hopped aboard, recreating it in the “Barbie Foot Challenge.” But podiatrist Dr. Jodi R. Schoenhaus said: “If someone attempts the pose once or twice, they will likely be ok and produce a great…video. However…over long periods, there are some risks involved. The ankle is unstable, which can lead to ligament sprains and injuries, commonly seen with high heel use.” Also, the high-arched position of the Barbie foot can lead to muscle and spine issues, because it strains the lower back, and could damage the growth plates in younger ‘Barbies’. (Odd — this challenge hasn’t popped up in my algorithm yet…) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3sr9mmhd

WATCH AND WEIGHT:
It turns out that Mom and Dad were right all along: Watching too much TV isn’t good for you. A new study from New Zealand found that children who watch more television are more likely to develop health issues as adults. Researchers at the University of Otago said “More childhood television viewing time was…associated with a higher risk of overweight and obesity and lower physical fitness.” Kids who watch a lot of TV were also found to have a higher risk of metabolic syndrome as adults, which involves 3 or more conditions such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar and high cholesterol levels. Together, they greatly increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. The researchers pointed out that television viewing could displace physical activity and reduce sleep quality. And it might also promote consuming more unhealthy foods…habits which “could persist into adulthood”.
(So you’re taking in a lot of junk…and not just by watching “Secret Mountain Fort Awesome”?!)
(Don’t worry kids – when I was your age, all I did was play sports all day, and I got fat anyway. Enjoy your show!)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ Scientists say they’ve developed a super weapon against cancer. Researchers at University College London say their cancer-busting guided missile built from microscopic components ‘clicked’ together like Lego. It’s a possible new therapy devised by joining a trio of proteins together to create a molecular super weapon. Dr. Peter Sziji describes it thus: “We have an antibody fragment that binds to cancer cells – that’s the guidance system. Another one calls in an artillery strike – the T cells which kill the cancer – and we have an enzyme which knocks out its defences.” He said that the treatment proved particularly effective at killing breast cancer cells, and although there is more work to be done, “There is much untapped potential”.
➢ Maybe fate told him that someone needed a pep talk. A young boy was headed down a neighborhood sidewalk when he made a stop at a random house with a doorbell cam – and left a positive message of encouragement for a stranger. The video, posted on YouTube, doesn’t identify the boy or the location, but the youth is an American walking in a tree-lined neighborhood. He looks directly into the camera with an earnestness and wisdom seemingly beyond his years, and says: “You matter, alright? There’s always going to be someone who cares about you. You’re a good person. No matter what people say about you…You matter, man, or girl. Whoever you are, you matter to someone…Don’t forget that.” Then, he went on with his day. THE BEST WEDDING SONGS:
(According to research across multiple platforms…)
1. ‘At Last’ — Etta James (1960): Perfect for practically any part of your wedding day, but especially first and last dances.
2. ‘Perfect’ — Ed Sheeran (2017): The lyrics immediately make you feel like you’re the only two in the room. It is like a guide to the perfect love story, with Sheeran singing “darling, you look perfect” and “I see my future in your eyes”.
3. ‘A Thousand Years’ — Christina Perri (2011): Written specifically as a song to be told from the point of view of ‘Bella’ from “The Twilight Saga,” the song is wedding themed, making it a great wedding song.
4. ‘All of Me’ — John Legend (2013): A beautiful melody coupled with breathtaking lyrics, it has been a top wedding song ever since its release.
5. ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ — Elvis Presley (1961): Even after 6 decades, it remains one of the most romantic songs out there, with the lyric: “Take my hand, take my whole life, too”. It’s a perennial favorite for a couple’s first dance.
(My ex chose The Rolling Stones’ ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’. THAT went well…)

DID YOU KNOW?
Scientists have revived a worm that was frozen 46,000 years ago — a time when woolly mammoths, and sabre-toothed tigers still roamed the Earth. The roundworm, of a previously unknown species, survived 40 meters (131 feet) below the surface in the Siberian permafrost in a dormant state. One of the researchers revived 2 of them by simply rehydrating them with water. Scientists used radiocarbon analysis of the plant material in the sample to establish that the deposits had not been thawed since between 45,839 and 47,769 years ago. (Live bait?)

(And apparently makes a fine spread for toast, if you’re a millennial…!)
• “Jump for Jelly Beans Day”, these tiny candies evolved from an ancient confection called “Turkish delight,” which was one of the earliest forms of hard candy.
