BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
The Hollywood Walk Of Fame has announced its next batch of honorees: Backstreet Boys, Jane’s Addiction, Jennifer Hudson, New Kids On The Block, Usher, and – posthumously – Janis Joplin and Luther Vandross (after Vince McMahon, Winnie the Pooh, and Zsa Zsa Gabor got their stars, we didn’t think there could possibly be anybody left) . . . Meantime, ‘Uggie’, the Jack Russell star of “The Artist”, has made canine history in Hollywood this week by becoming the 1st dog to leave his paw prints outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre (word is that’s not all he left) . . . 24-year-old “Gossip Girl” actress Blake Lively has just been named the face of Gucci’s new fragrance, ‘Gucci Premiere’, which will be sold worldwide beginning in September (nice non-work if you can get it) . . . The same cruise-ship worker who accused John Travolta of sexual assault in a Spanish-language magazine is now suing the actor for assault & battery and emotional distress (this is becoming a bandwagon) . . . In the upcoming 4th season of “Glee” (FOX), Sarah Jessica Parker will play a ‘manager of sorts’ to Chris Colfer’s ‘Kurt’ and Kate Hudson will guest as a dance instructor for Lea Michele’s ‘Rachel Berry’ (when it comes to guest-stars, they’re moving down the alphabet from the A-list) . . . And Beyoncé-Jay-Z spawn Blue Ivy Carter has just been named an honorary citizen of Croatia, at only 5-months-old (and what have you done today?).
TODAY’S SHOW BIZ SKED:
• “America’s Got Talent” (NBC) – Hopefuls perform for the judges in Las Vegas; the judges choose the top 48 acts.

• “So You Think You Can Dance” (FOX) – This season’s 20 finalists are revealed in the show’s 200th episode; guest judge Zooey Deschanel (“New Girl”).
• “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC) – Justin Bieber (“Believe”).
• “The View” (ABC) – The Jacksons again (“Unity Tour 2012”).
BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Death Cab For Cutie – Frontman Ben Gibbard’s ex-wife Zooey Deschanel (“New Girl”) has apparently moved on from their 2-year marriage. She’s reportedly started dating “Dear John” screenwriter Jamie Linden.
• The Flaming Lips – Today they embark on a quest to break the Guinness World Record for ‘Most Live Concerts in 24 Hours in Multiple Cities’ during the online “O Music Awards”. The band’s bus tour through the Mississippi Delta will be live-streamed as they play 8 concerts, each in a different city.

• Jennifer Hudson – “Los Angeles Times” reports she’ll appear on NBC-TV’s “Smash” during its 2nd season this Fall, playing a Tony-winning stage actress who tangles with the cast of the show’s fictional musical “Bombshell”.
• Justin Bieber – He tells “Daily Mirror” he’s been talking with British boy band One Direction about collaborating on a track for their 2nd album.
• Katy Perry – She tells “Hollywood Reporter” she’s in the process of launching her own record label. She promises the as-yet-unnamed imprint will ‘avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success’.
• Lana Del Rey – The 26-year-old “Video Games” singer is reportedly currently shooting an ad campaign for Swedish clothing retailer H&M in NYC.
• One Direction – They’ve now filed a countersuit against another group with the same name. The other One Direction already filed a lawsuit claiming the Brits had stolen their name, but now the “X Factor UK” alums are adamant they had the name first. Clearly, there are Two Directions.
• Spice Girls – They’ve reunited for the first time since their 2008 tour to announce a stage musical inspired by their pop hits. “Viva Forever” is scheduled to open at the Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End on December 11th.
FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical look at who we are and the things we do …
• 73% of men would prefer not to go to a dance club on a first date. (… or any other date.)
• 65% of women say it’s a real turnoff when a guy winks at them. (Especially with both eyes.)
• 41% of parents give their kids a regular allowance. (The rest believe in child labor.)
• 40% of women surveyed say their favorite thing to steal from their man is his car. (After his heart, of course.)
• 23% of us are actually proud to have a TV in our kitchens. (It eliminates awkward conversation with the family.)
• 12% of employees would be brave enough to tell the boss his/her outfit is inappropriate. (Coincidentally, 12% are also brave enough to face unemployment.)
TAKE TIME TO RELAX:
A new study finds that people who go on vacation for a week only get about 3 days’ rest because it takes 4 days to switch off the pressures of work. Researchers have found that halfway through the 4th vacation day is typically when the average worker begins to stop feeling everyday stress. And that only leaves only a few days of real relaxation. (Simple solution … never go on less than 2-week’s vacation!)

WAYS TO GET BETTER FUEL ECONOMY:
A few driving tips on how to generate more distance for every tankful of gasoline …
• Pay Attention to Service Lights – Don’t ignore that ‘check engine’ light that pops up on your dashboard. A malfunctioning engine can cause gas mileage to dive 20%.
• Check Air Pressure – Low air in your tires directly affects fuel economy. The right air pressure means easier driving and less fuel burned to get you moving.
• Be Smart About Gas – Unless you’re driving a high performance vehicle whose operating manual demands it, you don’t need premium fuel.
• Use Technology – Download an app like GasBuddy (free for iOS and Android) to find the cheapest fuel where you work or live. Make sure to choose a station on your normal route.
• Plan Ahead – Minimize your overall time on the road by grouping errands together that are located in the same area. Go to the bank on the way to the beer store, etc.
• Stop Idling – An idling car gets zero miles per gallon. Whenever possible (drive-thru, school pick-up lane, long traffic lights, parking lot, etc) turn your engine off.

BS BUZZWORDS:
New cutting-edge vocab …
✓ ‘Biophony’ – The combined sounds of the biological world … animals foraging, birds singing, insects buzzing, leaves rustling in the breeze, etc. (“We got no sleep during our camping weekend. The biophony was deafening!”)
✓ ‘Brosiery’ – Pantyhose for men. “Women’s Wear Daily” reports there is a cult following for these, aka ‘mantyhose’ and ‘guylons’. (“Honey, I’m running late for work. Can you take down your brosiery that’s hanging all over the shower?”)
✓ ‘Sleeping Beauty Syndrome’ – A rare neurological disorder (officially known as Kleine Levin Syndrome) that affects just 1-in-1,000 people worldwide. During an episode, they may sleep 20 hours a day or more, only rising in a trance-like state to sip water and relieve themselves.
OVERCOMING THE YUCK FACTOR:
Much of the conversation about how to solve the coming food crisis focuses on technology, reducing waste, and improving food distribution. But another solution may be … broadening our appetites. Two food sources that strike many as unpalatable – insects and seaweed – could play a critical role in feeding the 2.5 billion extra humans expected by 2050, and do so in a green, climate-friendly way. If eating bugs & weeds seems icky, consider this … 200 years ago, lobster was regarded as a filthy, bottom-feeding scavenger unfit for consumption by civilized people. (So … grasshopper taco with a side of kelp pasta anyone?)

SNEAKY WAYS TO EAT HEALTHY:
Nutritionists recommend these almost invisible ways of adding healthy stuff to your diet …
• Sprinkle flax seeds in your burger meat and pancake batter. They have a delish, slightly nutty flavor, so you’ll get a nice serving of fiber and heart-friendly omega-3s with a subtle flavor kick.
• Add a handful of spinach to your chicken parm, sandwich, or omelette. It’s loaded with fiber, antioxidants, vitamin A, and cancer-fighting flavonoids, among other things.
• Grate or dice veggies into any type of sauce you’re making. Zucchini, squash, carrots, and onion go great with tomato sauce … and they can make it look more colorful.
• Make your own salsa. It’s super-easy and you’ll get more vitamins out of it. Try diced tomatoes, onions, cilantro, avocado, celery, and diced yellow and orange peppers.
• Pack a 100-calorie pack of almonds for when you get the urge to snack. It’s way healthier than chips or candy. You can even season them with a little cinnamon or garam masala.
• Love ice cream, but want something more nutritious (with a fraction of the calories)? Freeze bananas and then blend them for a yummy banana soft-serve.

FOR THE RECORD:
28-year-old Mischo Erban of Vernon BC Canada, who began longboarding in order to get to his UBC classes on time, has set a Guinness World Record for ‘Fastest Skateboard Speed From a Standing Start’ … clocking 129.94 km/hr (80.74 mph) on a downhill course. His board is standard, but he has a custom-fitted suit and a helmet with a “Terminator”-style heads-up display that tells him how fast he’s going and what terrain is ahead.
