Sheet For Brains!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Miss Universe” runner-up Ariadna Gutierrez (who was mistakenly announced as winner), will make her movie debut as Vin Diesel’s love interest in the upcoming “xXx” sequel. The beauty queen has hired Luis Balaguer, manager of fellow Colombian Sofia Vergara, to oversee her rising career. She flew into the Dominican Republic yesterday to begin work on the sequel “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage”, which is due to hit movie theaters in 2017. The original film was released in 2002.

★ “Dead Poets Society” is set to live gain … off-Broadway. The 1990 screen drama that starred Robin Williams as an innovative teacher is being revived for the stage by screenwriter Tom Schulman. The writer, who won the film’s only Academy Award in 1990 for ‘Best Original Screenplay’, has turned his script into a play for the Classic Stage Company. “Dead Poets Society”, directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle, who also serves as the theater’s artistic director, is slated to open this October.

★ Channing Tatum’s highly-anticipated outing as “X-Men” superhero ‘Gambit’ has reportedly been dropped from the 2016 movie release schedule. 20th Century Fox had originally set a release date for October but that proved unrealistic as the film has yet to begin production. Channing has long been interested in portraying the card-throwing mutant onscreen and he first became linked to the Marvel movie in 2014. However, the project has suffered a series of setbacks over the years, including numerous postponed production dates.

★ And there’s no end in sight for CBS-TV’s long-running mega-hit “NCIS”. The network has announced it has renewed the series for 2 more seasons, and that its star and executive producer Mark Harmon has signed a new 2-year deal of his own. The action-crime series, now in its 13th season, remains the most popular drama on TV. This season it is averaging more than 20 million viewers each week. “NCIS” premiered in 2003; it’s since spawned 2 spin-off series, set in Los Angeles and New Orleans.

• Thomas Rhett – His wife inspired “Die a Happy Man”. Actually, she kind of demanded it. Lauren, Rhett’s high school sweetheart from Valdosta GA, became his wife in 2006. After they’d been married a while, she challenged him to write more ‘sweet songs’.

BS BUZZWORDS:
Cutting-edge vocab …

THE ORIGINS OF FOOD:
Highlights of a poll of 1,000 kids aged 8-to-15 on where various food products come from …
• 2% of urban kids think that cows produce eggs. (Hey, they’re in the dairy section, right?)
• 8% of urban kids & 3% of rural children do not realize burgers come from cows. (They likely get ’em at McDonald’s.)
• 10% of 8-year-olds do not know that pork chops come from pigs.
• 19% of all children surveyed have no idea where yoghurt comes from. (Wherever it comes from, it seems to have gone bad.)
• On the bright side, 100% of all kids know that milk comes from cows. (Except for goat’s milk, soya milk …)

BEST WINES TO PAIR WITH CHOCOLATE:
First you take a bite of chocolate and then a sip of wine, letting the wine flow over the chocolate in your mouth. The combination is intoxicating. A few recommended pairings …
✓ A fan of white chocolate? Try pairing a rich buttery Chardonnay with it.
✓ White chocolate also goes well with Riesling.
✓ Milk chocolate matches up with a Merlot.
✓ Like chocolate with nuts like almonds? Try a rich oaky Cabernet.
✓ If you like fruit in your chocolate you might try a Pinot Noir, a Beaujolais, or even a Chianti.
✓ Sea salt chocolate goes extremely well with Malbec.
✓ Some chocolates now contain chili pepper. Pair them with a spicy Rioja.
✓ Champagnes complement numerous flavors and therefore pair well with many chocolates.
It’s said say you can almost never go wrong with a wine and chocolate combination as long as you use quality chocolate and quality wine. (Plonk and a Mars bar … mmm.)

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical look at who we are and the things we do …
• 70% of women find it tacky when a man wears multiple gold chains.
• 62% of us list our cars as our most valuable possession.
• 55% of us believe there are just too many opinion polls.
• 47% of men have said “I love you” … by accident.
• 32% of us admit to having stolen wi-fi.
• 24% of women find men with scars on their face more attractive than those without.

SELF-DRIVING FLYING CARS:
While several companies are focused on perfecting self-driving technology, the decades-old dream of building a flying car has mostly been put on the back burner. But one company has been working toward both goals and hopes to have prototypes of a self-driving flying car on – and above – the roads as early as 2018. The ‘TF-X’ vehicle from Woburn MA-based Terrafugia is a 4-seater capable of vertical liftoff and a flight range of 500 miles at 200 mph. It features a parachute system, automatic air traffic and bad weather avoidance, and emergency auto-landing protocols. But don’t get too excited … even if the prototype comes out on time, you won’t be able to buy one for another 8-to-12 years. (Seems ‘George Jetson’ was a prophet.)

BEST TEMP FOR SLEEPING:
For sleeping, the ideal bedroom temperature is about 65 degrees F (18 C), says Pete Bils, Senior Director of Sleep Innovation at Select Comfort, a manufacturer of adjustable beds. He recommends setting the temperature in your room to 65/18 or cooler, and to err on the colder side. Why? It’s much easier to get warm than to cool down if you get too hot. And snuggling into the blankets provides the perfect cocoon for slumbering. (You also lose weight from all the shivering … seriously.)
