BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Former supermodel Jerry Hall will become the 4th Mrs Rupert Murdoch on Saturday, according to reports. The fashion icon, 59, became engaged to the 84-year-old Australian billionaire in January after a whirlwind romance, and it appears they are not waiting around to wed. The couple will exchange vows in a private service at the historic St Bride’s Church in London this weekend, and will celebrate with a big party at a yet-to-be-disclosed location.

★ David Hasselhoff has confirmed his appearance in the upcoming movie version of “Baywatch”. The actor, who portrayed ‘Mitch Buchannon’ on the popular 1989-99 TV series, officially announced he will be involved in the film adaptation that’s being spearheaded by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. It is not known what role Hasselhoff will play but Johnson has tweeted, “He’s been training his ass off and gotten in the best shape he’s been in years!” Zac Efron and Priyanka Chopra co-star in the remake.

★ The Nina Simone estate is lashing out over actress Zoe Saldana appearing in ‘blackface’ in an upcoming bio-film. The first poster for the new movie “Nina” clearly shows the half-Dominican, half-Puerto Rican actress with a much darker skintone than usual, not to mention a prosthetic nose, for her role as the African-American jazz singer and civil rights activist. Producers say the image is a still from the movie and hasn’t been altered to make Saldana appear ‘more black’, but that doesn’t negate the likely use of make-up and prosthetics.

★ And the Netflix reboot “Fuller House” has been renewed for a 2nd season even though the 13-episode series was only released a week ago (February 26th). While the reboot has garnered some horrible reviews, fans of the show have been flocking to stream the sequel and it’s had an overwhelming amount of social media success ever since the project was announced. “Fuller House” hails from “Full House”, which ran on ABC-TV 1987-95. The new series is a modern-day spinoff revolving around the widowed ‘DJ Tanner-Fuller’ (Candace Cameron Bure).

LIVING LIGHTING:
In a world of increasingly scarce resources, viable power alternatives are at a premium. A Paris-based company called Glowee has seized this opportunity, creating a line of lights powered exclusively by …. bacteria. The company’s goal is to offer a global solution that will reduce the 19% of world electricity consumption that is used to produce light. Glowee is not the first bioluminescent light producer on the market; Dino Pet is a dinosaur-shaped glass lamp filled with glowing bacteria. But it’s just a fun work of art, whereas Glowee inventors envision their product replacing traditional light bulbs in public spaces. So is it practical to rely on live organisms to produce commercial levels of light? That remains to be seen. But it’s definitely cool. (All these years we’ve been killing off a future light source!)

SPAGHETTI WITH LEGS:
You can now buy pasta made of insects in France. Stephanie Richard thinks insects are the protein of the future. The French chef runs L’Atelier a Patés, a pasta shop that sells a range of homemade pastas, including several made from crickets and grasshoppers. Richard’s customers have embraced her strange insect pastas with such enthusiasm that she’s struggling to keep up with demand. The process involves pulverizing crickets, grasshoppers, or a combination of the two insects to create a special flour, which she then mixes with normal pasta ingredients like eggs and wheat flour. She claims the insects add to the flavor of the pasta and turn it into high-protein cuisine. (“Mom, my macaroni crawled out of my bowl!”)

• “Multiple Personalities Day”, saluting the adage ‘We have only one person to blame, and that’s each other.’ Can people with multiple personalities deduct themselves as dependents on their income tax?

SUNDAY –
• “Day Of the Dude”, promoting the philosophy & lifestyle inspired by fictional character ‘Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski’, as portrayed by Jeff Bridges in the Coen Bros’ 1998 film “The Big Lebowski”. ‘Dudeism’, a modern form of Chinese Taoism, has often been referred to as a mock religion, though its founder Oliver Benjamin and adherents take it seriously.
