BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco have slightly extended their time on hit TV comedy “The Big Bang Theory” by signing on to host a tribute to the show. “Unraveling the Mystery: A Big Bang Farewell” will air after the show’s finale on May 16. The special will take fans behind the scenes of what has become the longest-running multi-camera comedy series in television history. Galecki and Cuoco will also share secrets from the show and moments from their favourite scenes over the past 12 years.

★ Fox Entertainment has announced that Jussie Smollett will not return to his series “Empire” next season in the wake of allegations by Chicago officials that the actor lied about a racially motivated attack. In a statement, Fox said: “By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for season six, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to ‘Empire.” No reasoning was given for the decision.

★ Just in case you had any doubts, yes, Seth Rogen is high in pretty much every movie you’ve ever seen him in. In fact, he told Stephen Colbert that there’s a “100% chance” of it. Colbert asked him just how often he really partakes in the “marijuana cigarette” and whether any of that has ever translated into his work or in his performances. Rogen replied: “Yeah, I smoke weed all day every day of my life. Oh, for the last 20 years exclusively.”

★ The next installment in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise has been given a premiere date, but one of the biggest stars of the movie is not yet officially returning to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Johnny Depp has not yet been approached by Warner Bros. to exercise the option in his contract for the third “Fantastic Beasts” flick, which has been given a release date of Nov. 12, 2021. The date announcement was made on Monday, with J.K. Rowling and crew gearing up to begin production next spring. During the release of “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” some people pushed for the movie to drop Depp due to his ongoing issues with Amber Heard and accusations of abuse.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Halsey – gifted the members of BTS with friendship bracelets prior to their performance together of ‘Boy With Love’ at the Billboard Music Awards last night. Monday night, she shared a brief video of her wrist on Instagram with a pink bracelet on it, writing that she “finally got to give these to everyone” and added the Korean word for friendship. Soon after, a member of BTS shared a video of himself wearing the bracelet, tweeting “Thanks!!!” and tagging Halsey.
• Justin Bieber — appears to be teasing an upcoming collaboration with Ed Sheeran. Bieber, who hasn’t released a new album since 2015, posted images of himself and Sheeran standing in front of a green screen backdrop. He captioned the snaps simply with the number ’10’, which could point towards a single release on May 10.
• Mariah Carey – has announced a new Las Vegas residency. The “All I Want For Christmas Is You” concert series will consist of five shows from November 22-30. She’ll be back February 14-29 for “The Butterfly Returns” at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
• Bobby Brown — has slammed “family friend” Chris Rock for making a distasteful joke about Brown’s late wife Whitney Houston’s struggle with drug addiction. Rock made headlines when he shared a meme which showed an image of an unenthusiastic Whitney alongside the words: “Me sitting in a meeting that could’ve been an email.” Taking the joke one step further, Rock added: “Hurry up I got crack to smoke.”
• Queen – drummer Roger Taylor says Adam Lambert joining the group was like ”fate unfolding”. He says they thought the group would never perform again after the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991. Lambert actually joined the group in 2011, after the Queen + Paul Rodgers incarnation ended. Lambert will tour with the group again, beginning in July.
• Guns N’ Roses – will be one of the star attractions at this year’s Austin City Limits Festival. Mumford & Sons and Childish Gambino are co-headliners, while The Cure, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Kacey Musgraves, Tame Impala and Robyn are also on the bill. It will take place on Oct. 4-6 and 11-13. It will mark GNR’s first show in Austin in 25 years, and their first-ever appearance at ACL.
• The Burning Man Festival – Its future is at risk due to a standoff with the US government. The festival has issued a statement saying: “Many of the measures recommended by the Bureau of Land Management are unreasonable, untenable, attempt to solve problems that don’t exist, and/or create new (and worse) problems.” This year’s event, scheduled to begin Aug 25, won’t be affected.
• Blake Shelton – although he was once PEOPLE’s “Sexiest Man Alive”, he admits he may not have been the best choice for the title. He told E! Online: “I am proof that you can be odd-looking and still be accepted, and make the most out of it. Look at this chin, this chin and this chin, and then tell yourself I was the Sexiest Man Alive. I am proof that you can do it.”
• Keith Urban — Even though his newest album is barely a year old, he is hard at work on the next one. He tweeted a photo of his mouth and a microphone with the caption: “Nuuuuuuuuuu music comin.” The background suggests the pic was taken in a recording studio.
IMPACTFUL SPEECH:
A NASA administrator says that it’s time to get serious about the threat of a devastating asteroid crashing into earth. Jim Bridenstine spoke about the importance of using the “science of planetary defense” to protect earth at the International Academy of Astronautics’ 2019 Planetary Defense Conference, which is on now in Maryland. In his address, Bridenstine said that we must take precautions now to make it possible to one day evert – or at least reduce –disaster. He says we must use all of our capabilities in gathering data, including detecting and tracking potential impactors, and understanding how to prepare emergency procedures to keep people safe if an impact does occur.
(I figure as long as we have Bruce Willis, we’re good!)
(Because if our planet is going to be destroyed, it should be destroyed by humans, not some rock from outer space!)

GIF-ING YOU SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
As anyone who has ever sat in front of a computer screen is aware, a GIF is a series of images strung together to create a soundless video graphic (usually featuring Leonardo DiCaprio raising a champagne glass or Homer Simpson backing into a shrub). But what is the correct way to pronounce it? GIF is an acronym for Graphics Interchange Format, and there are two schools of thought on how to pronounce GIF. Most people take the hard “g” sound from the word “graphics”, in Graphics Interchange Format, and pronounce the word as in “gift” without the “t”. Some people use a soft “g” (like in the word gibberish) because a “g” followed by the vowel “i” tends to be pronounced with a soft “g.” This leads to GIF being pronounced Jif, like the peanut butter. That is what creator Steve Wilhite had in mind when he named it, and he has since come forward and confirmed that this was how he intended GIF to be pronounced. Both Merriam-Webster and the Oxford English Dictionary have both pronunciations listed, so no matter how you say it, you’re technically correct.
(So no more “looking down your nose” at people who say it the way you DON’T!)

SURPRISING THINGS THAT GIVE YOU BAD BREATH:
➠ Peanut butter: It has lots of sugar in it, and that is a recipe for bad breath. (And I thought it just made my breath smell like peanut butter!)
➠ Citrus fruits: They also have a lot of sugar, which bacteria in your mouth love to eat.
➠ A high-protein diet: Bacteria in your mouth break down proteins and can cause a foul taste and smell in your mouth.
➠ Acid reflux: It causes bad breath when stomach contents like acid and undigested food flow backward into the esophagus. (Is that why my dog always wants “kisses”?)
➠ Coffee, sorta: While coffee dehydrates your mouth, it’s likely the milk that causes your bad breath. Coffee’s dehydrating effect can “ferment” into bad breath when mixed with milk.
➠ Diabetes and the Keto diet: Both can result in “acetone breath” which is when it smells like nail polish remover. Acetone is a chemical produced in the liver.
➠ Alcohol: It kills the good bacteria in your mouth. (It also makes you more likely to have kissed someone who has “all of the above”!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A new study suggests a poor sense of smell has been linked to poorer health in older adults. The study found that among 71-to-82-year-olds, having a poor sense of smell was strongly associated with dementia, Parkinson’s disease and chronic kidney disease. Having a poor sense of smell did not seem to be associated with cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes or hypertension.
(Lucky for me, I’ve always been told that I have a “strong smell.”)
