Bullseye!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The mother and sister of Halyna Hutchins – the cinematographer who was fatally shot on-set during filming – have seen “Rust” and say it is “stunning”, and are encouraging audiences to see the film in Hutchins’ honor, and to “remember her for as long as they can.” The release comes 3½ years after star Alec Baldwin – who plays an aging gunslinger in the western – was rehearsing a scene and the gun went off, killing Hutchins. Baldwin was found not responsible for manslaughter.

★ Marvel’s “Thunderbolts*” easily topped the weekend box office, with a projected domestic haul for the ensemble action piece, which follows a ragtag team-up of Marvel’s least superpowered personalities, of $70-75 million. The supernatural vampire pic “Sinners” fell to second place, but still managed a weekend gross of about $34 million, while Alec Baldwin’s controversy-laced “Rust” finally opened in select theaters while also being available on premium VOD – but the Western chalked up an estimated Friday opening gross of just $25,000 from 115 theaters.
-HollywoodReporter
★ Pee-wee Herman’s beloved bicycle from the 1985 cult classic “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” has found a new home — and for a hefty price. The screen-used stunt bike, ridden by the late Paul Reubens in the film, sold for $125,000 on Saturday. The bicycle was one of only 14 created for the film. The prop was custom-made, and has been restored to make it appear closer to what it looked like in the film. Fans would recognize it from scenes like the one showing Pee-wee crashing into a curb and joking: “I meant to do that.”
-TMZ
★ Queen Latifah took her final bow as street vigilante ‘Robyn McCall’ in “The Equalizer” last night – because CBS announced on Saturday that it has canceled the beloved drama, ending a 5-season run. The primetime thriller followed Latifah’s McCall, a former CIA operative and mother of 2, who tasked herself with helping others. Sunday’s season finale turned out to be the series finale. Latifah also served as the show’s co-executive producer.
-NYPost
★ “Blue’s Clues” star Steve Burns made a surprising admission about his time working on the beloved children’s show. According to him, waiters “made more money” than he did while hosting the Nickelodeon hit. The now 51-year-old said: “I got Blue’s Clues early, but every waiter I ever knew made more money than I did for the first many seasons of that show.” But, Burns said, he was “really fortunate”, because Blue’s Clues became his “side hustle forever,” and working in voiceovers was his main source of income. (No wonder he always sang “Mail’s here”! He was expecting a check!)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Beyoncé — just kicked off her “Cowboy Carter” tour, and there’s already trouble at the rodeo. The owners of the Las Vegas Sphere sent a cease and desist letter over her “unauthorized” use of their venue in her tour’s visuals. She’s depicted as hundreds of feet tall, striding through Sin City before stopping at the Sphere, picking the venue up, tapping it with a finger, and walking away with it in her hand.
• Lewis Capaldi — surfaced at a charity concert in Edinburgh. He announced he was taking a break from touring in in June 2023, after struggling to perform ‘Someone You Loved’ during his set at the Glastonbury Festival. Fans rallied to help him finish the song by lending their voices. Friday, concert-goers were stunned when Capaldi stepped onstage for a 6-song performance.
• Lady Gaga — Saturday, she performed the biggest show of her career. Her free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil drew a crowd of 2.5 million people, beating Madonna’s record of 1.6 million.
• Maroon 5 – is back. Friday, they dropped the new song ‘Priceless’ featuring LISA of Blackpink (and the recent season of HBO’s “The White Lotus)”. It’s a preview of the group’s forthcoming 8th album. LINK:  https://tinyurl.com/5xwanzvu
• Ozzy Osbourne – said all he can do is “turn up” and do “the best I can” at Black Sabbath’s final concert amid his ongoing health battles. The group will stage the star-studded charity concert “Back To The Beginning” in Birmingham, England, July 5, and the 76-year-old recently started endurance training for the show as he deals with neck and spinal issues, as well as Parkinson’s disease.
• Sammy Hagar – Apparently, what happens in Vegas, doesn’t stay in Vegas. He’ll be livestreaming a residency show on May 16. Hagar posted: “We’re gonna rock the hell out of your house!” His team elaborated, saying: “Veeps is bringing the Las Vegas residency LIVE directly to your living room! Tune in from anywhere in the world and watch the concert live and on demand.” LINK:  https://tinyurl.com/54h7npmr
• Neil Young – “Talkin to the Trees”, his highly anticipated first album with the Chrome Hearts, will arrive on June 12. After releasing their debut single ‘Big Change’ in Jan., Young and his new backing quartet dropped the song and video for ‘Let’s Roll Again’ on Friday. LINK: https://youtu.be/DQm2q2KbJL8
• Eric Church – is back with Friday’s release of his 8-song, musically diverse release “Evangeline Vs. The Machine”. He says he was not involved in pre-production, and arrived to a full orchestra at the studio. Still, the album came together in just 4 days.
• HARDY – The genre-bending artist has returned to the land of country music, with his new EP “COUNTRY!”, released on Friday. It features ‘Favorite Country Song’, ‘Buck On The Wall’, and 3 more new songs.
• Kenny Chesney – gave his 2024 “Sun Goes Down Tour” opener Megan Moroney an end-of-tour gift so massive, he couldn’t even have it shipped to her. Megan quote: “He got me into ice bathing and sauna’ing. Once he got me addicted, he was like, ‘Here ya go, you can have this at home now.'”

SHOOTING THE BULL

THE THRILLA FT. A GORILLA:
OK, this has become too big of a story to ignore any longer. I’m talking about, of course, the internet’s new obsession with the question that is lighting up social feeds everywhere: Who wins in a fight — 100 people or one gorilla? Now, at first glance, you’re probably thinking: “Easy. With 100 humans, that gorilla is toast.” But slow your scroll — because we’re seriously underestimating just how insanely strong one gorilla is. To settle the matter, the youth culture site “The Tab” called in an expert: Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, a renowned Ugandan conservationist and CEO of CTPH (a group working to help humans and gorillas coexist peacefully). Her verdict? “The men wouldn’t stand a chance.” Dr. Gladys said that gorillas are 5 times stronger than the average human. And while they’re generally gentle giants, if you dare poke the bear — er, gorilla — things get ugly fast. Especially with wild gorillas unaccustomed to humans, it’s less “Planet of the Apes” and more “run for your life.” Long story short: Dr. Kalema says she’d put her money on the gorilla.
(All I can say is this: Those 100 dudes had better hope Mr. Gorilla isn’t out of bubble gum!)
(100 men? Sorry to say, but that gorilla’s walking out with 99 new hats!)

BEDTIME INTERROGATORIES:
Gen Z parents are ready to tuck bedtime stories in for good. According to a new study, cozying up under the covers with “Snow White” or a nursery rhyme just isn’t as important these days to moms and dads in their early 20s. For nearly 1 in 3 of these Zoomers, reading aloud feels more like homework than a peaceful way for their kids to drift off to sleep. And with phones, tablets, and streaming at their fingertips, who needs fairy tales, right? Just 40% of all parents — Gen X, millennials, and Gen Z — said that reading aloud is actually fun. That’s thanks to busy schedules and piles of homework. In fact, fewer than half of toddlers are read to regularly, and boys especially are missing out. But, here’s the problem: Kids who are read to often are happier, more active, and way more likely to enjoy reading on their own. So maybe it’s time to dust off those bedtime books — because studies show that their ‘happily ever after’ could depend on it.
(I LOVE reading to my kids. It’s the only time anyone in my family actually listens to me!)
(Happily ever after? Hey, I’m just trying to survive until Friday!)

NUN DONE:
If case you didn’t catch it when news broke late last week, a Brazilian nun who was named the world’s oldest person early this year has died. The agency LongeviQuest, which tracks the world’s longest-living people, said that Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas died on April 30, at the age of 116, just one month shy of her 117th birthday. She died in Brazil. According to Guinness, she is second-oldest nun in history, after France’s Lucile Randon (Sister André). That sister died at age 118. Now, 115-year-old Brit Ethel Caterham is officially listed as the world’s oldest living person.
(I’m a bit hesitant to say it, but stay tuned for updates!)
[***Caution***] (Wow – imagine how long that is in “nun-years!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Traditionally, those who made a New Year’s resolution involving dieting are falling off the wagon right about now. That’s if they made it through the first few days, of course. And according to a survey, the number one diet enemy could be the person who is SUPPOSED to have your best interests at heart: Your better half. 24% said their partner enjoys yummy snacks and treats right in front of them, plus they order take-out food or encourage them to have drinks. Other top reasons people said their diets fail include: lack of time to plan meals, goodies offered at social gatherings, and eating for emotional or stress-related reasons. (If you’re just giving up on your diet now, I’d say you DESERVE a week-long fried-food and sugar bender!)

BS CHRONOMETER 05.05.25

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Cinco de Mayo”, a Mexican holiday commemorating the 1862 victory over French troops at the Battle of Puebla. Mexicans (and honorary Mexicans) everywhere celebrate with parades and fiestas. (The only downside to Cinco de Mayo is “Seis de Hangover”!) Today is also. . .
• “Totally Chipotle Day”, a celebration of the smoked jalapeño pepper.
• “Revenge of the Fifth”, the day after the “Star Wars”-themed “May the Fourth Be With You”, a play on “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”, celebrating the ‘Sith Lords’ and other villainous characters from the movie franchise.
• “Melanoma Monday”, to raise awareness of melanoma and other skin cancers, and encourage early detection through self-exams. Here are some ways to reduce your risk:
⇒ Wear sunscreen to protect from harmful UV rays. Reapply it throughout the day, too.
⇒ Wear a broad-brimmed hat, long sleeves, and pants. And don’t forget to cover the back of your neck.
⇒ Find shade. Trees, umbrellas, and awnings provide excellent protection on sunny days.
⇒ Don’t let the clouds fool you. UV rays still reach your skin on an overcast day.
⇒ Avoid tanning beds. The UV light there puts you at risk for melanoma, too.
⇒ Regularly check your skin for abnormal moles. If you notice changes, see a dermatologist.
• “Cartoonists Day”, kicking off “Cartoon Art Appreciation Week”, to create greater public awareness of and appreciation for the cartoon. Why today? “The Yellow Kid”, the first newspaper comic strip, was first published on this day 130 years ago (1895). What’s your favorite? Least favorite?
• “Hoagie Day”, celebrating the super-sized sandwich also known as a sub, grinder, hero, Italian sandwich, po’ boy, wedge, zeppelin, or torpedo. What’s the best combo?
• “International Midwives Day”, observed since 1991 in over 50 nations, to recognize and honor these healthcare professionals who are experts in women’s reproductive health.
• “International Roller Derby Day”, an unofficial holiday celebrating this unique sport (or combination of sports?). [***Find your roller derby name here… LINK: www.tinyurl.com/5m8zrxb5  ****]
• “Oyster Day”, celebrating the mollusk delicacy enjoyed by many. (What brave soul first decided to try eating one of these things?)
• “Museum Lover’s Day”, when all appreciators of museums come together to celebrate their favorite place to hang out, spend their time, or check out different kinds of art and expositions.
• “Great Lakes Awareness Day”, celebrating the Great Lakes and highlighting the issues they face, and how they can be preserved. The 5 Great Lakes: Superior, Huron, Michigan, Ontario, and Erie, located on the US-Canada border, make up the largest body of fresh water on Earth, ⅕ of the freshwater on the planet.
