BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Friends” star Matthew Perry has revealed he has been in hospital for three months following surgery to repair a ruptured bowel. Last month, a spokeswoman said he underwent an operation in Los Angeles and was “grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals”. On Friday, Perry tweeted to say he was still in hospital. It was his first tweet since March.

★ (***Note content***) Anna Kendrick called Barack Obama an ”a-hole” in an exchange which left the former U.S. President doubled over in laughter. She says that Obama singled her movie “Up in the Air” out for praise in front of around 30 people because of the way in which it ”talked about the economy and the recession,” and when the pair met face-to-face later on, he apologized for ”embarrassing” her with the praise. Anna then claimed she responded: ”Yeah, you’re such an a-hole.”

★ A Paul Walker tribute last week at a California mall ended in violence after the gathering turned into chaos. Video posted to social media shows people jumping onto the mall security vehicle and stomping on the hood. Walker, who would have turned 45 on Wednesday, was a noted car enthusiast. The West Covina Police Department is investigating a felony vandalism to a mall security car, as well as an assault and battery case against two mall security officers.

★ HBO’s Westworld just got a little better. Producers have announced that “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul is joining the cast for Season 3 and will be playing a regular character moving forward. Paul is the second Breaking Bad cast member to join the hit show. Last season, Giancarlo Esposito had a cameo, though it is not clear if his character will reappear in the future.

★ Tim Conway‘s daughter has been denied in her attempt to be named conservator over her legendary father. Kelly Conway appeared in court Friday to face off with her step-mother, Charlene Conway. Conway claims that Charlene was trying to move Conway from his current medical facility to one she felt was not up to par. 84-year-old Tim Conway is suffering from dementia and is said to be “almost entirely unresponsive.”

• Mac Miller – His final resting place will be a location that was significant to his career. His family were seen visiting Homewood Cemetery Friday afternoon in Pittsburgh, presumably to pick out a plot. Homewood was a featured location in Miller’s music video for ‘Nike’s On My Feet’.
• Sia – has a new song collaboration with – wait for it — Dolly Parton. The re-recording of Parton’s 1971 single ‘Here I Am’, is one of several songs Parton will be including on the “Dumplin’” soundtrack ahead of the film’s release.
• Taylor Swift — has been granted yet another restraining order against an obsessed fan. She claims 26-year-old Eric Swarbrick has been sending her written threats for over two years, boasting that no one can stop him from ending her life.
• Justin Bieber — has applied for dual citizenship. He’ll retain his Canadian citizenship, but wants to become an American citizen as well. Bieber spends most of his time in the U.S. and his fiancé Hailey Baldwin is American. He was raised in Stratford, Ontario, Canada but moved to Atlanta when he was 13.
• Lenny Kravitz – says that he gives up alcohol and tobacco when he’s on tour to ensure that his voice stays in top shape. Kravitz says it is a ”battle” to keep his voice in good condition when he’s touring so he does his best not to ”abuse” it.
• AC/DC – Their early years are the subject of “AC/DC 1973-1980: The Bon Scott Years”, a new book by Jeff Apter, out November 14. It will contain rare photos including some of their first performances in Sydney, and cover the era from 1973 through to the release of “Highway to Hell” in 1979 and the death of original singer Bon Scott.
• John Mellencamp – his new album, “Other People’s Stuff”, will be released November 16, and he’ll start a 26-date U.S. tour Feb. 7.
• Carrie Underwood — cancelled two U.K. festival appearances last week because she was hospitalized in Germany for three days. Underwood, who is pregnant, came down with a viral bug while in Germany.
• Sugarland — Singer Jennifer Nettles has been announced as one of the cast members of an upcoming feature film about the life of iconic abolitionist Harriet Tubman. Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo will portray Tubman in the film, and the cast will also include Leslie Odom Jr., Joe Alwyn and Clarke Peters. Their roles have not yet been revealed.
EXCESS EXERCISE:
How long should you spend at the gym to get a full workout? The more reps the better, right? Slow down, Schwarzenegger. You might be happy to hear that when it comes to bodybuilding, a report published in “Medicine and Science and Sports Exercise” says that if your strength exercises are longer than 13 minutes, you’re wasting your time. Men who performed just one set of 8-12 reps using weights heavy enough to exhaust their muscles, benefited as much as those who did five times as much work. To achieve these results, the participants were required to “train to failure”, meaning that they worked out so hard that they were unable to complete another set. Researchers suggest three 13-minute sessions per week.
(Awesome! Now I only have to hit ‘snooze’ twice to miss my workout!)

WIPING THE SLATE CLEAN ON TOILET PAPER:
The classic debate over which is the correct way to put toilet paper on the holder has been settled. Some say ‘over’. Some say ‘under’. Some say ‘personal preference’. After a University of Colorado study found that there can be as many as 19 groups of bacteria on the doors, floors, faucet handles, soap dispensers, and toilets of public restrooms, it has been determined that…brace yourself…OVER is the correct method of installing toilet paper on the holder. Why? Picture it: you’re in the bathroom and reach for the TP and the loose end is dangling under the roll. As you reach for it, your fingers, hand, and even the toilet paper graze the wall behind it. Now imagine this happens to everyone who uses that same roll. Plus, when the toilet paper is “dangling under,” you have to touch more of it than you would if it went over the top. And remember, not everyone’s hands are clean, so their germs are more likely to be on the tissue that you are about to use if it is installed on the roll ‘under’ style.
(So…who else is done with public restrooms?)
(Long ago, I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle, and I leave it purely up to destiny. Whatever way it goes…it goes!)

SENSITIVE SHOPPING:
In a reflection of many industries’ attempts to reflect gender sensitivity and equality, a Finnish department store has launched a gender-neutral shopping floor. Stockmann, the largest chain of department stores in Finland, has announced that they have decided to dedicate an entire floor of their store to brands such as Acne Studios, Calvin Klein and Marimekko, which have incorporated unisex styles in their collections. According to the company, the new shopping floor concept, ‘One Way’, refers to their philosophy that that there is only one way to style yourself: your own. The CCO of the company, Anna Salmi says, “We believe that men’s and women’s departments should function as guidelines to finding the clothes that best fit your shape and style rather than definite rules to follow.” They say by introducing a gender-neutral floor, they are questioning the old-fashioned norms when it comes to dressing.
Where in the stores will the gender-neutral shopping floor be located? Between the men’s and women’s levels, of course – on a floor labelled “1.5”.
(They might want to look at changing the name of the company too!)

★ Johnny Depp – worked in telemarketing. He sold pens on the phone. He liked to practice his acting when talking to customers and would even make up fake names for himself. He made one sale. (Maybe that was to Meghan Markle….)
